Of course, how much, and what parts can be used by others, differs from animal to animal. However, people would rather just animals die by much more gruesome means (ever seen lions kill cubs?) and leave them to rot.
Getting rid of troublemakers in the herd, such as the giraffe in the story, ensures that the rest of the herd has the resources it needs to survive.
People would rather do nothing and let that troublemaker live. They’d let a herd starve in the name of “compassion”.
Now what if that same logic was applied to humans? Not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying. If an old giraffe is taking up valuable resources that would be better used by the others. Why can’t we as humans just put down old folks that aren’t capable of contributing anything of value to society anymore and just take up space and resources?

I don’t see the problem with them shooting the Giraffe if they where following the rules. If they where properly licensed for it and where hunting in the proper zone for it then what’s the big problem, really? From what I’ve read they’ve done the exact same thing with it my friends back east did with all the deer they shot during deer season and all the ducks they shot during duck season and same for rabbit season (“FIRE!!!”). They used it for all the things they could, they didn’t just lop it’s head off to mount on a wall, the body was used for food.
