Ah, thanks. That sounds about right. Near as I can tell the window is very small, and it essentially decides the winner of a trade, but within a specific margin which I can’t figure out- I don’t know if it’s location or size of hitboxes, area of overlap, etc. As you note the timing is pretty specific, though it’s easier with some interactions than others.
As a side note, I realized the other week that with Gen’s crane stance c.HK vs Akuma’s divekick, Gen would flash more often if I was holding down d/b than when I tried holding d/f (using a savestate of the divekick, so that element was the same). I don’t know if it had something to do with the charge(s) or canceling early block animations or what, but it was a weird thing I noticed.
And the weaker attack can be out early, but I don’t know about other attacks for the winner (fireball etc). Though the winning attack needing to be on the first active frame or something like it sounds about right.
But I’m not fat lol and when do I post those kinds of things?
