forgot to add that Grown Up Static was broken as fuck & he appeared in a episode on that anime of Batman Beyond.
static was the most hood superhero for kids. he was basically the poorer version of spidey an he was hella poor haha.
hey, he was a Black nerd. And his girlfriend was white (I thought she was Puerto Rican in the comic).
Come to think of it, Donald Glover would be a perfect Silver Screen version of Static.

lol i knew richie was hella white in the comics but when he became gay i was like ohhhhh shitttt.
WAT.
when did this happen? I mean, he did come off as a tag along in the anime but damn, they went that far?!
WOW.
Saying that Jim Lee is Rob Liefeld without the anatomy issues, then having more than one person misinterpret it as Jim Lee is Rob Liefeld, complete with anatomy issues? If I’m Fox News, then my audience seems to be as perceptive as the average Fox News viewer.
Of course my initial statement was snarky. It was made with snark in mind. If I had set out to get into a detailed breakdown of why I think Jim Lee sucks, I would have done it from the get-go–and I would have done it in the comic forum instead of the lounge. My primary intention was to make fun of Jim Lee, so I did it. That isn’t to say that I’m being dishonest about what I really think about the guy, because I really do observe the same overall visual aesthetic in Jim Lee’s artwork as I do in Rob Liefeld’s. It’s the same vibe I get from Mortal Kombat, or Tony Scott movies. It is not a good vibe.
This might have something to do with the fact that my biggest problem with Liefeld’s art isn’t that it’s lazy, sloppy, or anatomically inaccurate. It’s that it’s overblown, juvenile, and silly. Jim Lee’s art, as well, is overblown, juvenile, and silly. All wadded fists, gritted teeth, nonsense lines and torpedo tits. I suppose I could have compared Lee to another artist, but Liefeld is the one who leaped most readily to mind; therefore, I chose Liefeld. And I stand by that.
Now, are we done questioning the critical integrity of posts in the SRK Lounge?
I hated all the image shit when it was happening (valiant fo life) but now I appreciate both Lee and Liefeld. Maybe Liefeld a little more even because his work is much less prevalent due to his terrible work ethic. I like liefeld art like I like Con Air or Point Break
…also I think we should close the comic forum and just have a comic thread in gd again
Don’t do this “reply with pictures” shit. That shit is spam like a mother fucker.
what am I suppose to call The Boondocks?
a cartoon? an animated series?
only season 3 is an anime.
Sup so is this the place where TOL happens now? Nice.
lol, really? That’s crazy.
In all seriousness, what is the bases for considering something a cartoon vs an anime, i.e., The Avengers v. anything Japanese in today’s standards?
I thought The Boondocks was animated by Koreans, and I find that slightly hilarious.
Boondocks is an anime. Let it be known. Its an african american anime.
You’re only saying these things because you got mad that Jim Lee drew Superman with red eyes.
Be real, goody, saying that Jim Lee is Rob Liefeld without the anatomy issues is the same thing as saying he’s Rob Liefeld. Adding a little caveat to it doesn’t mean that isn’t what you meant or what you said. Don’t start back peddling on that.
Jim Lee is one of the most dynamic and talented comic book artists of all time. His work has gotten better over time as well. The shit from back in the day when he was on X-men compared to his work on Superman or All Star Batman and Robin is pretty astonishing. ASBAR might be fucking crazy when it comes to the writing, but the art was amazing. There are artists out there now who aren’t fucking with Jim Lee.
What’s interesting is the same criticisms you’re leveling at him can be leveled at 80% of the comic book artists out there. Calling Lee out for doing the same anatomy that everybody else does is pretty pointless.
Further, the only reason you’re drawing a comparison between Liefeld and Lee isn’t because of the aesthetics. Come on, man. Their art doesn’t even look REMOTELY the same. You’re doing it cause you don’t like him, and nobody seems to like Liefeld, so it’s like an easy target and comparison even though it’s neither.
wtf?
its sumtin like season 1 and 2 were in america. season 3 was in korea and thats why it took so long to come out.
Sheeeeeit,
Image Comics was the shit in the early 90s. I wasn’t even buying comics regularly until I noticed Spawn and The Maxx. The colors in particular (by an “Olyoptics” team… I think that’s what they called themselves) were amazing at the time… I hadn’t seen anything like that in years before from Marvel or DC. You had vibrant, true color gradients most likely generated by some Adobe stuff or some other graphics programs. Stuff basically jumped off the page and hit you in the face like BAM! “BUY THIS SHIT.” Marvel and DC simply weren’t giving me that kind of eye-candy at the time. The Maxx was usually more painted(watercolor, most likely) though. Sam Keith and McFarlane were putting out the good stuff to me. Later on, I also became a fan of Jim Lee, Jae Lee, Dale Keown, Silverstri and Joe Madureira…and Alex Ross. Those were the memorable talents of the industry for me. Ah, there was also J. Scott Campbell, but only for his specialty of drawing unbelievably hot women. When he stopped drawing Gen 13, that comic was immediately dead to me.
so, essentially, if it’s made in Asia = Anime and if it’s made in America = Cartoon. I mean, I don’t dispute that all but…
Is it really that cut and dry? I mean, look at Capcom then at “who they cater to”. Then artist like Nakoto/ Beefy Kunoichi who is American but caters to a Manga style, hence, Boondocks has a “Quassi-Anime/Manga Style” of it’s own. Stuff like that, IMO, would be hard to classify.
