She wasn’t popular even though her debut went gold, sophmore album sold 8mil, and iirc her posthumous 3rd went triple plat? She was also caking off dat Anastasia OST and was cast to be Zee in The Matrix. Ok. Weren’t there reports of the pilot unlicensed, drunk and on coke also or something?
But seriously? She is an R&B staple. wtf? She is always discussed when the convo is brought up. C’mon son

R&B died with Aaliyah as far as I’m concerned. What we got afterward was a heavy dose of man hating Destiny’s Child followed by Beyonce’s unworthy fame and lame ass songs.
she came on the radio the otherday for some classics of the 90’s or sumtin. man…i cant ever get sick of her music. true r&b. i think alicia keyes was a good successor to the mantle though.
(Haha. “Man-hating Destiny’s Child” is a hilarious phrase even if it’s true.)
Your added parenthetical statements pretty much explain why I never see her mentioned: I am an “oreo” and I generally don’t like or listen to R&B. I don’t tend to hate it like rap, but it’s still below country when it comes to stuff that I can generally listen to, which should tell you something.
[Insert joke about crappy music taste here.]
Like I said, I liked her when she was around and she had some talent at the very least, certainly more than most popular artists today. However, I don’t really remember any of her songs off the top of my head (even with your links). Similarly, I am completely serious when it comes to mocking how laughably avoidable her (“tragic”) death was, especially since she ended up getting other people killed in the process. I feel if we’re laughing about this Jackass…personality–I can’t really say “actor”–crashing and burning of his own accord, she should be fair game as well. (Assuming that’s what you were initially getting on me about with the “really, dude?”)
lol @ Syke1 getting in an argument with Damned over music. everybody knows he only listens to anime songs. and even then it’s not stuff he actively searches, just whatever CN regurgitates on TV because he’s too melancholy to spend $30 for an external HD to look for cool stuff on the Type 1 telephone we know as The Internet.
Speaking of R&B, I heard some Brian McKnight playing in my gym. I wasnt sure if I shouldve sang along or got angry because I couldnt believe they would play Brian McKnight in the gym.
So, it was a good Fathers Day. I got myself a big fat juicy steak and I got a 3DS with Zelda. I just opened the 3DS like 20 minutes ago (yeah I kinda forgot about it till the power went out) and did all the set up and crap. I have a feeling this thing is going to give me a headache.
Damn power went out today at around 5 or 6 and didnt come back on till around 10:30 or so. It was so fuckin’ hot.
(Heh at Obama apparently backpedaling on gay marriage in both directions. Stay transparent.)
Ha, I can’t decide what’s more humorous about this match: the sheer stupidity of some of Youtube comments or the fact that Dhalsim vs. Yun looks like it might be almost as bad as Zangief vs. pre-AE Seth.
Lol. I haven’t even watched CN with any frequency for years unless we’re counting the fact Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Kekkaishi are on Adult Swim, which is technically the same channel. Even then, I’ve only looked up music for the former, but that’s because I really like Pride’s creepy theme and “To Be King” and because Fullmetal Alchemist has always had good music. (I find that cover art…odd-looking though for that last one.)
Actually, I heard about the Darker than Black 2: Ryuusei no Gemini’s OST from that Jill thing pulsr did. So, yes, I didn’t exactly look it up myself. Not like that would mean anything one way or the other.
Regardless, even though you’re joking, I probably do listen to more anime music than (new) real life music, though I still listen to more video game music than both, so…yeah.
I didn’t say that R&B is below country. I said I prefer to listen to country before R&B. As much of an absolute authority as I wish I had on things, I do not.
I’ll take your word for it since I have no idea who most of those people are beyond Alicia Keys, who I vaguely remember people bad-mouthing like four or five lounges ago and generally have no opinion on besides having briefly thought she was a lesbian; I admittedly prefer to remain ignorant of Drake at this moment, though.
Perhaps if this thread is open on Friday and I have time to look into it, I’ll give a more in-depth response. I’m not trolling when I say that I honestly can’t remember anything that Aaliyah did or anything about her besides the aforementioned movies and that she had at least had some talent. This is coming from someone who usually has music “jog” his memory pretty instantly or often thinks he’s heard of someone when he hasn’t.
So, yeah, plane-crash aside, I’m not intentionally try to bad mouth her.
