I used to get in arguments in High School (ie over 10 years ago) about how cheerleading was considered a sport. Competitive fighting games are already more of a sport than a multitude of activities accepted under the umbrella, so it won’t be e-sports that kills the word.

I think NASCAR is mainly to blame for starting it. Bunch of drunk hillbillies driving in circles is definitely something, but it’s not a sport.
I don’t consider things were other people give you a rather arbitrary amount points for doing shit sports. Thus figure skating, cheerleading, synchronized swimming, etc. are not sports.
Driving faster in a circle is more a sport than doing flips in midair before you land in water. One has a goal, the other is just impressing people.

I don’t know about what is or isn’t a sport, but I sure as hell don’t like the idea of scoring artistic talent in shit like gymnastics. I mean, what the hell is the difference between a 9.1 and 9.125 score? Really?
having played a sport at a legit level gives you a better understanding. like the idea cheerleading isnt a sport…can you truly say its not without having done it in some aspect? you have a better understand of the innerworking…just cause you read sumtin or watch espn doesnt mean you have any real idea bout it.

That’s not what you said. And what you said is irrelevant, illogical and plain fucking stupid. I know plenty of people who have never played football outside of a pick up game during Thanksgiving and they know more than some commentators. Athletic ability has nothing to do with the classification or understanding of a sport.

@Cryoh: I hate scoring too but i can see why it is necessary. For example: Say snowboarding has different points for each move. And a McTwist is worth 5. Snowboarder A lands it clean, and snowboarder B lands it sketchy. They both get the 5 andclearly snowboarder A is the better clearly, but the scores don’t show us that. The trash part is when opinions and hate gets in the way USA should’ve got gold/silver/bronze @the Olympics Fuck Austrailia and shoutouts to the Aboriginals.
