HyperDimension Neptunia is a series of games staring an iron board dunce named Neptune who is the Goddess (or CPU) of Planetune, one of 4 Lands in a world of Gameindrustia. These lands (and most of the characters) are made to represent video game companies, with the other three lands representing Sony (ruled by some emo Tsundere named Noire), Microsoft (ruled by best chest hardcore gamer Vert), and Nintendo (ruled by angry best girl Blanc). These girls are known as CPUS and are able to transform into immensely powerful forms the more the people of their lands believe in them (which also somewhat changes their personalities, Neptune being the most extreme in this regard.)
Are the games good?
While the first few in the series are pretty iffy in quality, the remakes of those and later games are extremely fun to play. If you are interested in the series I suggest playing Neptunia Rebirth 1 to get a handle on the game universe and how most of the games play.
What’s this series known for?

The series is actually pretty well written with many shoutouts to various different games and game companies. The characters and world are pretty funny, and the girls (Neptune in particular), love to break the crap out of the fourth wall.

The heroine of the series, Neptune is a lazy happy-go-lucky moron who also happens to be the Goddess of Planeptune. However, she rarely does any work, and her land (while being the most technologically advanced) usually falls behind the other three in shares. Neptune rarely lets anything crush her upbeat, lighthearted mood, and will crack jokes in even the tensest of situations. Makes friends easier than breathing. Has a little sister called Nepgear. Falls a lot. Loves pudding. Transforms into Lady Purple Heart. In the games her stats are usually focused in attack and speed, so she’s best at beating the crap out of enemies.
Purple Heart:
Neptune transformed in HDD mode. Out of anyone who transforms, Neptune has the biggest transformation in character, going from a ADHD toddler into a serious, adult warrior. In this mode Neptune will take almost any situation deadly seriously, rarely cracks a joke, and acts more intelligently. She is such a threat in HDD mode that enemies will usually try to incapacitate her first in a fight. Like her base form, she is best at beating the crap out of enemies.[/details]

The CPU of Lastation (a land that is heavily industrialized, with many factories and little nature). Noire takes her duties extremely seriously and is usually hard at work improving Lastation. Her hard work shows, and Lastation usually leads the other 3 nations in shares. Being a Tsundere, Noire will act cold to people most of the time but will gradually warm up to anyone she spends time with. Usually plays the straight man to the group’s comedy antics. Has a little sister named Uni. “It’s not like I ____________” is her catchphrase. Likes to cosplay. Only sane woman. Wins popularity polls. Not a huge gamer. Transforms into Lady Black Heart. In the games she is pretty well rounded and has good speed, so she’s best at quickly doing damage and building meter. Her weakness is that she doesn’t specialize in anything.
Black Heart:
Noire transformed in HDD mode. In this mode she becomes a bit arrogant and haughty, and will usually use a slash first, ask questions later method. She is a sore loser in this mode. Her EX Burst, Infinite Slash, does some of the best damage in games throughout the series.[/details]

The CPU of Lowee, a snowy fantasy land. Blanc is usually quiet and reserved, but piss her off and she’ll go into a rage. Blanc works as an author when she’s not busy with her nation. Like Noire, she sometimes plays a straight man to their antics, but will usually go with the flow. Usually has trouble trusting people. Has two little twin sisters named Rom and Ram. Oldest out of all the Goddesses. Scary strong. Potty mouth. Has A-Cup angst. Most emotional. Also wins popularity polls. In the games she is a hard-hitting, slow-moving tank, and is best put up front to absorb damage.
White Heart:
Blanc transformed into HDD mode. Blanc is permanently pissed off in her HDD, and will attack almost anything for little to no reason. Every other word out of her mouth in this mode is usually a curse word. It takes some extremely strong attacks to knock her out when she goes HDD.[/details]

The CPU of Leanbox, a Medieval- Themed land with lots of castles. Vert is the most mature out of all the goddesses, and is usually a strong voice of reason. She is also the biggest gamer and hugest Otaku of them all, sometimes staying up for days to play games. Vert can slip into bouts of immaturity at times, such as when IF is near her or when she doesn’t get her way. Loves (or is in love with) IF. Biggest chest in the series. Has a little sister Adopted her oracle as her sister. Yaoi fangirl. Turns into Lady Green Heart. In the games she excels at using both physical and magical attacks, but she’s good at buffing your party as well.
Green Heart:
Vert transformed in HDD mode. In this mode her personality pretty much stays the same, though her outfit becomes stripperiffic. [/details]
