[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

Yeah, but 6-string would present a whole new set of difficulties. Namely, how to play that log of a fretboard. I’d rather learn on bass, as it’s my native instrument, and my brother has the guitar, since I’m supposed to be teaching him some stuff.

As for the piano/guitar argument, I feel that the piano offers greater difficulty in mastering the nuances (pedal work, playing with the right touch, knowing your positions, dual-wielding rhythym and accompaniment, etc.). However, you cannot simply say X instrument is harder to play than Y as if it’s a fact. That is, unless you’re talking about the octobass.

all you guys that like Agile products need to check out Keith Merrow. he uses an [media=youtube]11FXm-SWUOA"]Agile Interceptor 7 and the [his album is free to download and it’s pretty beastly.

It’s not so bad when you spend a little time with it. Really, the trick to playing extended range basses are proper technique so that A) you don’t experience muscle fatigue in your fretting hand and B) you can keep strings that aren’t being played from ringing.

This still is much easier than trying to play something moving around in multiple positions rather than in one position. Have you tried learning Teen Town by Jaco Pastorius? Much easier song playing it on a 6 string than a 4 imo.

I didn’t know that Home Studio Metal was a genre now.

Didn’t know srk’ers were interested in Agiles and rondo guitars. Here are mine:

:wgrin:

and still collecting (3 more soon)

Damn, alfaphlex, didn’t know you even played. Nice that I don’t have to be the Rondo spokesman alone here. We have the same bass. Of course, I have 3 more SX basses and 2 SX guitars, haha. And oh shit, you got the WRL-590. I’ve had my eyes on it since it came out, but we’ve never been able to get together when I have money. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, for some reason, the lefties come with righty trems. :frowning:

Dude, now Kurt has a BLUE wrl-590. Right after I bought mine. That shit is so mine. My wrl is my most played guitar actually. Neck-thru, thin mahogany body, an very decent lfr and even grover tuners (overkill), for just $200.

I threw on a PAF Joe in the neck and Super Dist. in the bridge. Plays so nice.

My rondo todo list:
SX strat: thinking the powder blue hardtail
Blue WRL590, to downtune to c# standard
Douglas SR-370 as my first 7 string, dunno if black or natural

later on a septor or interceptor

Yup, yup, I play. Currently recording my first album actually. Lots of Vai and Satch influence and some Dream Theater inspired structure.:wgrin:

I HATE YOU

 you know i meant metal guitarists with home studios. stop making fun of me

I’m selling my beautiful Schecter C-1 Hellraiser OFR today ;_;

That guitar was a fucking beast and I’m going to miss it very much.

Then again, I won’t think about it next week when I get my Ibanez RG2228 Prestige

have you seen the 2010 ibanez models coming out? I’d wait on buying that prestige, unless you’re getting it for a really good deal.

Lots of info in this thread:
http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/standard-guitars/102693-possible-2010-ibbys.html

Damn, 2010 Ibanez Jem with original Edge trem (the one vai actually uses). I think every guitarist should have at least one nice expensive guitar. If I could, I’d buy that one, but it costs so much.

Bringing back the EDGE? That’s awesome. The EDGE is an incredible trem that feels really good to use. My current Ibanez has an EDGE on it and it’s awesome. Though I love the trem dearly, I’d rather see them innovate a new trem that everyone could be happy with instead of bringing back a trem designed in 1985.

Well, the og Edge is only for the Jem and Satch sigs I believe, but I’m sure they’ll be available separately as replacement parts now that they’ll be in mass production again.

Any idea when we might get info on the specs?

The RG2228 Prestige has everything I want but if the new one has similar specs and is cheaper than obviously that would be the better choice. The only thing is that since it will probably be a cheaper version (like someone on the SS forums said: “To compete with the Agile, LTD, and Schecter 8 strings”) I imagine the specs will be different on the new one. I’m definitely willing to pay extra for the Prestige since it seems to be the best 8-string I can get without going custom (save for the 3.7K ESP Stephen Carpenter Signature but that is out of my budget and isn’t really much of a step up)

That being said: If the specs are going to be announced soon or are already out then it would be worth waiting a bit, but I’d like to get this guitar ASAP so I can start writing some new stuff for the band I’m in.

Also, I saw that they are releasing that Maple EGEN18 as well. Hot damn that is a sexy fucking guitar. Depending on price/specs that may very well be my next guitar after this.

On a side-note: This had me going for a sec till I saw it was just a mockup

http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/1774011-post121.html

That white one with a Vine of Life or Maple fretboard would be :lovin:

^well, whatever I know is what’s been posted in those threads. Nothing is concrete until NAMM (jan14-17) because even the release info that’s been out has been for foreign markets.

I collaborated with some friends from another forum and made some contributions to this little instrumental track.

Got my first 7 string today! Check it out

Just adding more to my rondo roster:rofl:

Nice! I love that top.

I ended up deciding against the 8 string for now and ordered a 212 Vader cabinet instead. After NAMM I’m going to order my guitar. I’m leaning towards the Ibanez S5470 Prestige right now, but if something new catches my fancy I might get that.

For the time being I’ll be using a loaned Jackson Performer. It’s not too bad for a cheap guitar, the neck is especially nice, but the pickups are pretty meh. I can’t seem to get the tremolo system working for this one so I gave up and blocked it.

Will be posting pics once everything gets in.

Hate you. Why do they never put that out in lefty :frowning:

I always (well, almost always) enjoy listening to little projects like this, so I’ll play it once I get home and get back to you.

Hey guys. I don’t know if this has been discussed before, but how do you feel the ole axe relates to Street Fighter?

To me, improvisation feels kind of the same in both; you learn a set of licks, then apply them over a given chord progression. In Street Fighter, you learn combos to attack at specific points. But you can never really tell exactly how things are gonna go.

This may sound like a load of crap, but any thoughts?
