Yesturday was my first time in a long time playing with a drummer, and I must say it feels great. Probably be doing this a lot more often.
Saw Dragonforce/Sonata Arctica last night. Herman’s EGEN18 is such a fucking amazing guitar. Looks like he ditched that ugly purple for a beautiful natural finish. God damn it was such a good looking guitar.
Wish that color was available to consumers. I really dig the guitar itself but not that purple-gold color scheme.

^ Yeah theres been some talk about in on the Ibanez forums. A member there went to one of their concerts and took some pictures of it:

It looks nice but I’m not a fan of the gold hardware. Reminds me of the 1991 US exotic wood models. You can see hes using the double sided tape thing on the headstock like Vai does. Hes also using that ring effects thing where he can control effects with his hands.
Hey, I like the purple! lol
Ha, nice shirt he’s got on there.
The guy in the back, I like his neon green lines pants.
Broth’a you’ bad!!!
I wish I could play funky like that on my axe, butI am cursed with small hands and small fingers. How long have you been playing?
I too have small hands and fingers. My main bass for a while was a 6 string bass.
I’ve been playing for about 19 years now.
Also, practice makes perfect.
Hmmm, maybe I should invest in a five string to get those notes I sometimes can’t reach? Does having more strings help us that have this issue?
Super excited for this:

Ordering it next week!
I’m shitty at the bass, but I would guess that a 5-string would make it worse, due to the wider neck.
It depends. I’ve known guys who started off on a five string, and they just can’t play fours because of the “skinny neck”.
When I play (my four), I wrap my thumb around to hit notes on the E string, and if it’s a really tricky part, I can use it to get the A, but then again, I have big manly hands.
oddly, i only use the thumb to fret notes when playing certain chords on guitar, like a b13, min7, etc…I’ve never used it to fret single notes.
Finding the perfect neck size is tricky, especially on bass. I love thin 4 string necks, but think 5 string necks are tough due to spacing. It’s all about the spacing at the bridge. Too close makes slapping really tough…but I love the closeness at the neck, especially in the lower positions. I’ll probably spend a lifetime trying to find the perfect compromise.
I’m 6’5’’ and my favorite necks are the Wizard I necks from Ibanez. Really thin back radius, wide, and big string spacing. Most excellent!
Whats it do?
The Big Muff is a classic distortion pedal. They make reissues, which I assume that one is.
This would be true. If you already have accuracy issues on a 4 string, expect them to be magnified with more strings. This is because you’ll have to develop a technique no one really discusses when playing multi-stringed basses. That being, how to keep other strings from vibrating when you’re not really touching them.
It’s possible to make the jump from 4 to 5, but if you’re struggling to reach notes, practice more or look to improve your fretting techniques.
I played a 4 for about 13 years, then made the transition to a 6, skipping the 5.
Spacing at the bridge is imperative. Although now I find myself really enjoying those massive “ironing board” wide bass necks I used to like smaller necks because they were faster, but my slap technique makes closer spacing too tough to work. So I like the 6 strings with 4 string 19mm spacing. It’s beautiful!
Just picked up a new guitar to replace the LP Standard I sold earlier this year. I kept kicking myself over and over for doing it. Now, I’m kicking myself for not buying one of these to begin with:

So lately, I’ve been dicking around on three guitars: my own Fender Squier, my grandfather’s Harmony Strat copy and my father’s real Stratocaster. Am I imagining things or is the real stratocaster about 900x easier to finger? If so, is the ease of playing directly tied to the cost of the guitar? Because it at least seems that the Stratocaster>Strat Copy>Squier…which is also the order in the cost of the guitars. And another if so, since I’m a total nub and just learning, should I go nuts and splurge on a good guitar first chance I get? And yet another if so, how much is the bare minimum for a “good” guitar?
It could be that…or it could be that the strat is better set up than the other two.
Whatchu mean?
Also, is your avvy actually tits? I always thought it was an ass.
