[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

Turns out its the guitar drunk uncles would play when they used to come over, but fuck them this shit is mine now.

yea i wish it was a bass guitar those are way cooler.

That’s awesome.

My family sucks. Lets trade

sure but your in chicago. worst memories evar.

this is really hurting my wrist/thumb i must not be holding it right

Naw it’s just a standard entry-level Ibanez, an RG120. It’s thin, but it ain’t a Wizard II!

If you’re gripping it with your thumb at the back of the neck, just try to be gentle on it. It’s a good position to get accustomed to, but it’s going to take a while to build up the strength in your hands. Your thumb may be sore for a while.

Guitars have huge necks?

LOL

Well, you didn’t read the context of my sentence. I was comparing Ibanez neck sizes, not neck sizes in general. We’re talking about a 190mm (G being 240mm, Wizard being 430mm) radius difference here, which is huge. Even a 20mm difference is pretty big for guitarists in describing neck thick/thinness.

But yeah, you’re right. Some bass necks are HUGE compared to guitar necks. The other day I played this bass called a Laguna and it had the thinnest bass neck I’ve ever played.

Also, Gibson necks are gigantic compared to an Ibanez Wizard. Think of the Gibson like a yacht, and the Ibanez like a jetski lol.

Pics of carvin bass please.

thinnest bass necks I’ve ever seen are the Ibanez SR300DX, followed closely by the Ibanez GSR200 and other GSR basses.

I’ll shoot some pictures this weekend of my axes and post them tonight or tomorrow for you guys.

I also have a cell phone video that was shot kinda demonstrating my slap technique for you guys to see. The file format is in .3g2, and is only playable in quicktime. I can post that if you guys wanna see it.

I was about to say this. I had an older GSR with a P and Jazz bridge pickup. It was a pretty cool bass for back when Ibanez did the transparent finishes on the cheaper basses. It was an ocean blueish-green color.

I also had an SR6 (6 string) which I got rid of in favor of the Carvin. The Ibanez’s 6 string neck was very thin in comparison to other 6’s, but the Carvin was just as thin, and the back of the neck was more rounded and more comfortable.

The Warwick bass neck is a completely different beast. They’re typically known for having “baseball bat” necks lol. It’s true, but it’s some serious tone coming from the model I have which is the $$ Corvette model (2 massive music man humbucking style pickups).

Something just didn’t register with me and Warwick. Several of my favorite bassists (Alex Katunich, Norwood Fisher, Stuart Zender) play Wicks, and I love the tone they get out of them…but I got nothing out of playing one myself.

Which model did you play?

Unless I’m mistaken, .3g2 files are compatible with YouTube.

Oh and Edit: I’m “D” Tuned.

OH DAMN!! Thats hot man!! So funky… seriously I need to put some star shapped glasses on when I’m listening that and pop my collar.

Sweet playing man, loving that groove and you got sick timing.

a Corvette and a Streamer II.

thanks, the way i had it was with a claw grip its better should it be in between the 1st and 2nd frets? lightly row ftl

I just had to post this: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/1392846454.html

in case link stops working:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

@Canto, thanks for the compliments!

Warp, do you remember which pickup config that 'vette had? I’ve found most of them with the jazz pickups suck---- unless it’s the fretless 'vette with jazz pickups. I had one and it used to siiiiiiiiiiiing lol.

The vette is hit or miss without the right electronics. Look up the $$ Corvette or the Corvette Jazzman basses. Those things kill. Literally.

Same for the Streamer II. I’m assuming that was the 4 string one with a P and Jazz pickup?

Wicks are nice, but unless it’s one of the top of line models ofeach body style, you won’t see how good Warwick can be. For a while, after I sold my fretless 'vette, I went 8 years before buying another Warwick because they just sucked for the price range I was looking in. Or I just wasn’t blown away. Then I played that $$ Corvette. When I heard the growl, I bought it the next day lol.

I just changed strings on my Strat. I had been using the same set for far too long, so I decided it was time to clean/polish my guitar; change strings; and set the intonation again. I forgot how much I LOVE having new strings. It’s like everything I play sounds good now.
