Guthrie Govan is pretty cool. I used to learn all kinds of stuff from him when he did articles in Guitar Techniques. That song fives is hella cathy and cool too.
I just ordered replacement tubes for my amp! 3 Tung-Sol 12ax7s and 2 electro-harmonix 6l6s. Plus I got a Dimarzio clip lock strap and some picks.
I just saw a YouTube video of some guy wrangling a shockingly legit 1984 tone out of a Peavey Bandit, without outboard shit. I also seem to remember my drummer having a Peavey Bandit collecting dust somewhere due to a blown speaker. I might inquire about it, since buying a busted amp off a friend and replacing the speaker is probably cheaper than buying one fresh or off eBay.
$300 new, or something in that area. As cheap as that is, I don’t have that particular amount of money at my disposal for at least the summer, and it would be a major bummer to have to wait until it isn’t even prime gigging season anymore.
Damn! The Bandit in question apparently met its demise at the hands of a can of beer, which was being carried inside and burst while rattling around. Folks… an amplifier is not an appropriate beverage container.
Man… I got those tubes and I switched them out of my amp. The tubes in the amp must have been 10 years old… it sounds… like… A MONSTER!!! It really sounds a lot more clearer and crisper. Much more chunky. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like its actually breathing now… almost as if it was choking before I changed the tubes.
Amazing.
And the clip lock strap its pretty cool! I like it! Its more light weight compared to my other strap so its comfy.
I didn’t have to do it because I used the same types of tubes as the amp originally had. 6L6 power and 12ax7 for pre. Theyre just different brands of those types of tubes.
I can vouch for the budget-line instruments at musicyo.com, and the ones at rondo.com are supposed to be good as well. They both have some models below $100, which isn’t terribly common.
