[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

You just need to use it more. Eventually you’ll get more dexterity.

Thanks for the info, Warpticon. I have an SD Custom-Custom pickup that has needed a home for a while, and the Douglas SR-320 is one of the guitars I’m considering.

Here’s an exercise I picked up from a Randy Rhoads interview: practice trills, assloads of them. Start on the high E, anchor yourself in the first position, and trill the fourth fret. Jump to the B string, anchor at the second position, and trill the fifth fret. Keep going across the strings and up the frets, one string/fret at the time. Once you’ve hit the low E, go back across the strings the other way and keep going up the frets.

Don’t stop until you’ve made it all the way up the neck. Make sure the notes are ringing out nice and clear, and don’t play any faster than you can sustain for a long period of time. As you get more comfortable with the exercise, you can try doing it with some wider fret hand stretches. This is actually a good way to work out all of your fingers, not just your pinky–you can trill the next fret with your middle finger, and you can trill stretched across one fret with your ring finger as well.

And, as Randy would say, don’t use distortion. That’s cheating.

Ah, yes, that Douglas SR-320 is pretty sharp…sorta follows that Ibanez styling and all. You’re probably having trouble finding info on that particular model because it’s pretty new. Anyway, I’m sure that would make a great mod platform. I still can’t believe they have the SR-370 7 string with that beautiful ash top for $159, though. If they ever get one in lefty…

Finally got around to recording Kim’s theme in Fatal Fury Special. I didn’t figure it warranted it’s own thread, so I’ll throw it down in here for anybody else who may want to listen:

Does anybody else record?

I messed around a bit today. I don’t have the right interface for it really. I’m looking into buying a fairly cheap multi-track recorder though.

edit: Your “Wicked Child” cover is so sick.

Thanks.

What do you mean by interface? You play guitar or bass?

I play guitar, but I don’t have a good multitrack recorder or a 1/4" jack plugin on my pc, so I’m limited to using a crappy mic to record.

Your quality is good, what kind of setup are you using?

My older recordings I used a Line 6 POD plugged directly into the “line in” and an ESP M-II custom w/EMGs.

My new one I just did used the Line 6 Pocket POD ran through the “line in” jack and an LTD. The sound isn’t as good, but I was broke and needed a way to jam and record and the pocket pod is an awesome deal for the price (I believe you can snatch 'em for a benjamin on ebay or craigslist). What’s really cool is that I can load bare bones tracks onto my ipod, then run my ipod through the “cd/mp3” jack on the POD and jam over them, or just along to any mp3. It’s good for workouts.

Most people will still tell you that you won’t get the full capabilities of a POD unless you run it through another interface, but I don’t have the money for that and the sounds I get now are good enough for the time being.

I’m surprised you don’t have any sort of line in on your pc to run it directly through. I’m sure you can get converters for 1/4" outputs. I’d recommend a POD to anybody, even if it’s just for a practice tool.

I’m actually borrowing a pod 2.0 from someone right now. They just got the rackmount POD, so they’re letting me mess around with their old one. I haven’t really looked into doing recording with that though. I guess I should.

Hey guys…

Been playing guitar for 5 years now. Branched out into drums and piano… all self taught. I can read sheet music and have trascribed piano songs and learned them on guitar. I can sight read tabs for the most part but I can’t sight read sheet music lol.

I use Ibanez electric guitars because the necks on those things are so thin and smooth… just really great. The trems on them are also AMAZING. I currently have a '05 S470 with a ZR trem… haven’t tuned it in about 2 weeks and its still in tune… and yes… I do use the whammy bar quite often.
My Ibanez has a Dimarzio Tone Zone pickup in the neck and a Dimarzio X2N pickup in the bridge. That config also happens to be the same config as guitarist Michael Romeo. I do play a lot of metal and shredding so I enjoy them very much!

My S470:

For acoustic guitars I use Yamaha. Currently I have an APX 700.

For amplification, I’m currently using a VOX ad30. Its not amazing, but it gets the job done. One day I would like a Carvin V3.

If anyone has any Qs about guitars, you can ask.

Heres a dumpy video of me on youtube:

After almost having to wait an additional 2 weeks(returned to sender) due to a typo on my address, I was able to retrieve my package at a nearby post office today. And the package conist of:

Fuck yeah!!! finally got the ESP Edwards E-EC-150E via ebay.

Here’s some more pictures:

Now I just need is a good amp, and I’m ready to fucking rock out like it’s my last day on earth.

Sweet, more threads to keep tabs on.

Bassist here, playing on a 6-string bass.

Just picked up a Digitech BP-80 Modeler two weeks ago, been spending my time toying around with that, experimenting, and so far loving it.

Just picked up a usb guitar. Can someone tell me what type of guitar it is?

http://www.behringer.com/iAXE393/

It’s electric i presume? 6 strings, and that’s all I know about it.

Why are you involved in everything I am?

What kind of 6er you playing?

Nice find. It’s weired seeing an OFR on an LP shape, but that looks like an awesome guitar. How does it compares to an LTD?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for good rhythm guitar lessons/videos or something. Doesn’t matter the genre. Anything helps…

I have no idea as I’ve never played an LTD.

freeguitarvideos.com?

I want to have your babies, that’s why. :wtf:

I play a Rogue LX406B. It’s certainly not top-of-the-line, spend a fortune and sell blood and semen 6-string, but it’s a very solid bass with a good sound.

I also have a 5-string Rogue that does nicely, and a 4-string Squier that I would like to replace and then burn.

Heh, I’ve heard good things about the 6 string Rogue model. I should be popping my 6 cherry soon.

@Warpticon:

I’ve been playing guitar for 15 years now, and for the life of me I can’t make any tight grooves on the bass. Tips? Also, got any good bass riff resources? Thanks dude.
