So, whoâs still around? Shaft Agent? Quiche? Sano? Adam Warlock? Demon Dash? ShinAkumax? Valis? A bunch of other people Iâm forgetting about and will regret later?
Couple people are talking with Wiz. We donât have all the details their are discussions being had, but we know where they host so either are likely paying $600-1200 a month for hosting. There is an open source version of vanilla forums we might be able to host ourselves and migrate the existing Shoryuken information. Jayce said heâd keep us appraised as he finds out more. All this stuff just started getting discussed yesterday, so hopefully weâll get a more satisfactory rundown with some potential options soon enough to migrate before the shut down or have some sort of donation to extend the timeline. We have found a few set of options for cheaper hosting, but at least I want to preserve important threads and history that are on this site.
Thank you for this. I sincerely hope the forums can be saved. I tweeted Inkblot about it. I hope others will consider doing the same and have their voices heard.
I donât know if anyone else pointed this out but it was inevitable that SRK forums would eventually shut down because most of us are in our mid 30âs and have other responsibilities to deal or weâve lost interest in gaming, specifically fighting games, because they suck now and havenât improved that much if at all over the past 13 years or more.
Iâd like to know as well. People are starting to make their own forums and I fear it will split the community. Iâd rather save this one, as opposed to joining a new one.
Vanilla sucks though. Wish we could move to a different software with everything intact.
It is inevitable, but I think itâs just a tad premature, imo. Iâd like to see SRK at least survive the life span of SFV. Even if SFV had been great discord stealing a lot of the character threads is a major user loss for sites like this. I honestly seeing us having to revisit this in another 3-5 years even if it survives.
The age of our user base and fighting game players being older on average than a lot of other games does have a lot to do with it. Most of the youngest users here are early 20âs.
If this happened in 2020 after SFV support dies I would understand, but I donât think the traffic is low enough to justify its death today.
