SRK Forums *NOT* closing down at the end of January 2018

The info in tech talk is, to my knowledge, the absolute best resource on the Internet for that kind of info avaliable and would be a big shame to lose.

I was one of the several who posted Japanese location test news on Street Fighter IV, back in 2007-2008. It was a glorious feeling back then. It was my first year in Japan, I got to play SFIV before mostly everyone did. It was nuts just being there at the perfect time, telling everyone here about this new SF game that weā€™ve been waiting for almost 10 yearsā€¦ it was surreal.

I was one of the first C.Viper players, as well. Played her since the first location test I went to in Osaka. I wasnā€™t good, but I was the only English speaker that played her, so I was all that you had. I like to think I did my best.

I will always cherish the fun and the people I met from that time, and the years before that as well. Thanks, SRK Forums.

Now, a confession. I was the one who uploaded and leaked footage of El Fuerte when he was released in one of the betatests in Japan.

I expect the banhammer from SRK Forums, especially from the mod @SaBrE

I DID IT FOR THE PEOPLE

that sabre guyā€¦ just going ban crazy isnt heā€¦

If only. Iā€™ll hold out a small hope for some surprise benefactor to spring forth and save these forums.

WTF? Forums closing down? I donā€™t believe this.

Learned how to do that stupid legs loop in ssf4 because of yā€™all

Kinda sucks, Iā€™ve checked the forums pretty consistently over the last 9-10 years. I understand that information is abundant online, but I come here for the GD. I donā€™t even like most posters here and Iā€™m pretty sure most posters donā€™t even like me, but this was my entryway into the competitive scene. Sucks.

Hating your other SRK posters is part of the charm

The last place where we can be unabashadly assholes on the internet and still bro out.

Fuck. Been coming here since i was looking for cvs2 strats

These forums.

Why Goku?

Shout outs to all the goat trolls. The mofo that thought 'Rog was the greatest character ever. The mofo that said ā€œhey hey okayā€ after everything. The mofo that said ā€œact like you knowā€ after everything. Thereā€™s a handful of others.

If we get costs exposed Iā€™d be interested in a bar like amount per month that needs to be financed. I canā€™t imagine it costs thousands.

I mean if we need to do migrations to another platform, my worry is 3 weeks might not be enough time to migrate the site if we have to move from Vanilla Forums. Without costs exposed and if they are unwilling if costs are covered for a month or so to keep it up the time frame is super short.

Fuck 2018.
Rip in pieces sweet prince ._.

Anybody who donated to d3vā€™s hospital bill think they still would have if SRK was just the front page?

The front page is not a community.

You left out the 1 black guy you met.

after inner/outer mongolia no less

/picture addendum per approval process.

Why would I come to this site without the forum? Who would know who d3v was without the forum? From the editor articles? Think most of us think of him as a mod before that. I think front page provides something useful for stream info, but legit I wouldnā€™t bother if it wasnā€™t for the anime thread, tech forum, and general discussion. I can get all that info from twitter and stuff. There is no community on reddit, twitter, youtube, etc. Do people actually remember user tags that arenā€™t meme tags or useful bots on Reddit? Think discord is legit the only potential replacement but pinning is garbage and following conversations over discord is much harder than posts because of their frequency so you will always miss a lot in discussion there compared to a forum.

Vanilla pricing is 600-1200USD a month. I donā€™t think itā€™s a good idea to keep it going at this location for that kind of money. Probably best to get the shit off/archive it and start somewhere else.

all Iā€™m saying is r/srkgd is availableā€¦

I think it would do community damage if it had to be taken down 2 months for a migration or was made empty with no timeline for some migration. A donation drive that potentially gave us another month would do a lot imo. I think changes need to be made, but I question how many would move if at least the big threads didnā€™t migrate with it.

Vanilla forums has a open source version that we could potentially host pretty cheaply depending on how much storage it all needs. If the open source isnā€™t compatible 100% iā€™d love to get an archive sample so I can see if I can make it work with the open source version.

Just enough time to close one more thread ā€¦ for old timeā€™s sake.

Seriously though, Iā€™m sorry itā€™s happening. But all good things have to end, right?

Is this what an alcoholic feels like when their favorite bar closes?
