Some sort of archival is a must. Set it to read-only if the reason for shutting down was lack of moderation. Or just spit out the SQL dump of all the posts/users 'n shit and let some random dude host the backup or I donāt fucking know but please make a backup.
Very sad, hope the place can be saved. This was and still is a huge part of peoples lives, community and historical record of the scene. No way all these different parts of the forum will hold together if people migrate to another forum. Reddit and other formats just cant replace the community and resources here.
Been a member since the alt.games.sf2 newsgroup, shocked to see the news, but not surprised since Mr. Wizard has been willing to kill the forums for the longest time now.
Iāll still lurk on Discord, but I canāt hold the feels.
I used to make avatars and sig pics for people on here back in 2000-2001.
SpiderOptix, dragonkahn and a bunch of other gfx guys. Then they started the Tagmonkey forums to fulfill requests, and that shit became itās own big thing around 2003-2004.
Built my first stick based on help from the Tech Forums. Met a bunch of friends from the local community threads too. I can understand the decision to shut it down, but sad to see it go.
