SRK/Evo Winter Event?

This sounds like an awesome idea. Would be great to keep the tourny spirit/scene alive in the relatively dead months between evo and ecc/evo east. I think late january/early february would be ideal. Plane ticket and bus ticket prices tend to jump around the holidays and that would make it tough/expensive for players to get out there during/around christmas/new years. Add in the fact that it’s a holiday and I think the combination of that with the higher travel prices, people not within driving distance would be less inclined to go. That’s just my two cents, though. I think the idea is great and is a good way to keep the competitive scene alive during these otherwise mostly empty months.

1/1b)As someone from EC, I’d only be traveling if it was confirmed there would be a good amount of people for Melty Blood. Work and my current financial status also play a part in this. If it was only a couple hours by bus/car I would attend regardless of these.

2)It could be just like an EVO tournament but just everything is BYOC and that would be fine. Could have all the unofficial tournaments rotated to a big screen, or show some big money matches or the like. It looks like you’re just trying to find out if people would go to this sort of thing.

Wow this is a great idea, I think. But yea, like Nam says, i wouldn’t want to spend my new years gaming, instead with friends/family/etc.

2.) Itd have to be something incredible and never before seen to get me to travel to WC. If theres a party all night, I’d need alcohol enticement. It would be nice if it were somewhere lots of Cali locals could welcome travelers with the usual New Years madness, but just throw games on top of it. Guarantee a DJ and a decent sound system. Guarantee a sufficient number of setups for people to play on. Guarantee a venue large enough but close enough that a party environment could thrive. Dance floor, open bar, cover fee, party… basically BYOC with a dance floor instead of a tourney? Adult gaming party? Pole Dancers? Wiz in a Santa suit? This is just one idea…

I think a dance floor is too much. It would practically be a gay party then. I have nothing against it, but thats just not my cup of tea. And I dont think its possible to have a good number of girls to it. Its better to have more of a low key party and whoever wants to dance can go to a LA club or something.

The huge BYOC idea is great. And, without the tournaments, the big screen can be set to special events only, so anything that cant happen at Evo because of time constraints would happen there, like the MvC2 5 on 5, big MMs, Valle vs Wong and stuff like that. So the average player would chill, play a lot and have some quality well organized entertainment. The special events could even make it into another DVD.

New year would be bad for me too.

Yes, I think New Years Eve would be a bad call. Even though partying and playing SF on NYE would be fun to some of us, most people’s friends, girlfriends, etc. aren’t gonna be down for that.

I think you could do it a day or two before NYE though. That way, everyone can get their pre-party and SF on and then go do NYE up properly in LA. That might make it easier to justify traveling to LA for some people, since they could make it a 2-in-1 combo trip. Or maybe not…who knows?

I think it would be a good idea to do it over x-mas break but NYE doesn’t sound like a good idea mostly cuz people like to spend that time with family/friends.
