SRK D&D game Prelims and Sign-up thread: Paladins for Righteousness and Booty (mostly booty)

About that, say I wanted to swag my ranger out, I could give her some sleep arrows and a Efficient Quiver would that be legit, since the cost of the quiver is less than say 2k in gold which is the standard price for a +1 weapon and the arrows are like 132g a piece. Thinking about making like a slutty female hawkeye that does silly poses whenever she shoots her trick arrows…

Edit: But seriously, I am gonna make it so this character specializes in using and creating ranged artillery, but start with arrows. That will be her business and she will have people eventually coming to her requesting her to make all manner of tricked out arrows and bolts, but she might not always take the job. Think Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats…on a horse.

for you…i’m throwing a bucket of chicken skins at…its gonna have +20 dexterity and shit.

A horse named Shelby.

This thread smells like BO.

Yes, now that you’re in it.

I was the opposite, I never got into 3.5 because when I tried, the players were too fucking lame. And plus, everything non caster might as well not existed.

Once they announced 4e, along with the online game tool, I was sold. I bought all the books, dnd insider, was hyped for the online client… and then, it was vaporware and never manifested. So I only got to play a few games of 4e, never really had the time or friends willing to commit.

4e would be pretty intense to play on a forum though, with all the combat mechanics so reliant on positioning. I feel like you’d need to alter the rules a bit to make it work better on a forum, so there’s less downtime with people (like, all players submit their actions at the same time, and they take place at the same time, so you’re not doing like 24 hours for 1 in game combat turn). But a tactical based combat game could be fun, maybe even have 2 teams of players facing off against eachother.

3.5 is bad enough. If someone casts a fireball I just pretty much say “yeah, shit’s on fire”

roll20.net is by far the best online play tool I’ve seen. It’s really good and really easy. I was able to successfully DM om the fly with it after about 2 hours of use.

Looks like we got some jealousy in here.

Anyway, I wanted to know since you was gonna use pathfinder in the beginning could I use the deadly aim feat for my ranger? Kinda not fair that melee characters can use shit like Combat Expertise but us archers get left out? Hook a brotha up.

The way Pathfinder’s Rangers work is pretty different than in 3.5. But, I’ve always thought that ranged attackers should have a better way of increasing their damage output than simply making more attacks.

I’ll allow for this:

Deadly Aim:
Preq: Point Blank Shot, Dex 13, BAB +1
As a move action and before making an attack roll, you may choose to subtract a number from all ranged attack rolls and add the same number as a circumstance bonus to all ranged damage rolls. This number may not exceed your base attack bonus. The penalty on attacks and bonus on damage apply until your next turn.

That way we don’t get into Rapid Shot/Flurry of Blows shenanigans since they require that you take a full round action.

Also if you reach level 6, you’ll get Manyshot which is pretty much the same thing, except damage from extra dice and crits only apply to the first arrow, so it stil stays within balance.

Also, as this is a dungeon run, you’re going to want Point Blank Shot anyway, which I just discovered does work with thrown items like alchemist’s fire and holy water, but only on the target, not from splash damage. Sweet. Kinda stupid, but sweet.

Sound okay?

It would if you didn’t add an extra preq, forcing me to use a feat gain a feat will kill me this early bro. You already nerfed the damage so why make it harder to get? At level 3 I only have 2 feats available to me to freely choose as an elf. I was going to go with that and Weapon Finesse so I could do decent dmg with a rapier and kicks if it came to that lol.

If you ask me Point Blank Shot would make more sense if the bonus increased the closer it got, like make it 2/2 when you are 15 ft, and 3/2 when 5 feet…as it is it’s kinda wack considering the impression the name gives.

Also having profession as a ranger class skills blows ass, if you can change that I will personally let you change that too ANYTHING else that isn’t fucking profession…

So, is that sixth slot still open? Because I am down, if it is.

Either way, one piece of advice I have from having done a few online games in the past is to have some kind of timing system in place for combat. It’s waiting two days for some dude to post that slows combat down online, more than anything else. Sometimes I’ve just seen DMs skip people, other times they’ve asked for some general instructions to follow if the person isn’t there. Just shit like “I use my crossbow instead of wasting a spell unless X happens” or whatever.

You actually have more damage potential with it this way, but removing the requirement for Point Blank Shot is fine with me.

Point Blank shot is just a stupid feat meant to make better feats harder to get, which is why I chose it as a requirement it. It also stops casters from taking it and applying to to ray spells. I’m removing it as a requirement for the feat you requested only because It will take a long time to get 3 levels under your belt in a forum-post game.

Profession? You don’t have to put points into it if you don’t want to. You aren’t forced to put points into skills just because they’re class skills.

Holy shit I didn’t know this would really happen.

Put me down as an alt.

Holy fuck.

Lemmie get my female halfling demolitionist in the vein of May on, then.

+9000 notches up, for knowing GSC.

I have yet to ever make a D&D character. Help me break my D&Dginity.

@Maxx and @Combo_Knight
Are you two playing?

@JoshKaz, @Matriarch and The Question if you guys are playing let me know. There’s only one character slot available going to whoever posted first which means Maxx/Combo_Knight if they’re playing, or Joshkaz/Matri The rest will have to be alternates. You’ll make characters, but won’t get to play until the other game gets going. Possibly, you could control an NPC or two.

Missing Person I know you’re interested, so if those other guys aren’t playing you got the last slot.

I’m going to sleep now and won’t be checking until I wake up.

@RockBogart Thanks! I think I’ll look into the one with confirmation. Either that or just use the honor system. seriously, this game isn’t much fun when you cheat anyway. Then again, that hasn’t stopped people before.

@Manx, is the character ruleset on myth-weavers D&D 3.5e?

I know I that it isn’t required manx, it’s just I get penalized for putting points in anything else and Profession is like the single most useless skill in the game lol. I am 100% serious in you just picking something else. Appreciate it on that Deadly aim, but did you think about my reasoning on Point Blank Shot? You know, being closer makes vitals bigger targets, less kinetic energy/velocity lost by arrow travel and blah blah blah. Considering a feat like Deadly skill exist and is kinda strong from your view, I can see one getting a buff while the other getting a nerf since they both didn’t have any real prereq’s the way they were written(aside from dex).

I’m looking at the potential of doing a Half-Elven Rogue. How hard would this be for a newb to run?

Help me massa Manx!

I’d like to sign up, but I haven’t played D&D or any similar TTRPG. If you want a new guy who’s going to run around Animating Rope for days though, I’m your man.
