hmm
I’m not even joking. Unless he goes Mega he’s completely free to Thunderbolt.
Rocks, thunder, Gastrodon, and Skarmory are some nice ones to start off with.
thunderbolt is a move, you need a pokemon to do a move. will u be able to switch in your tbolter while he DDs and then still be able to survive a waterstab/coveragemove and tbolt? or outspeed dd gyara?
Is the mon you send in is scarfed then yes (assuming Gyra isn’t running a Waccan Berry.)
How does this look?
Goodra @ Leftovers
Nature: Careful
Ability: Hydration/Gooey
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Rain Dance / Substitute / Dragon Tail
Toxic
Infestation
Protect
Or should I split the defenses?
It looks good to me. If you’re keeping your overall team that I fought against last time though, I think dragon tail would be the move to use in that 4th slot to help deal with walls.
As for splitting the defense…not sure it’s worth it. According to Serebii it only has a base Defense of 70, and can only get a max of 262 defense if it has a beneficial nature, 239 with a neutral nature.
Have you seen Thunderbolt’s distribution? Are you telling me half the Pokemon in the game all can’t deal with Gyarados?
Hell, nearly every keynote Dragon in Pokemon can learn T-Bolt.
And if your opponent lets you get multiple DDs up then T-Bolt or not you deserve to sweep them.
are you telling me that one would switch in gyarados [with intimidate] on a pokemon with thunderbolt?
The best Gyarados switch-ins are like I said: Skarmory and Gastrodon. Skarmory has enough bulk to tank a +1 hit. Gyarados can’t touch Gastrodon in any way barring Crunch and hoping for a defense drop. Skarmory can Whirl it out and Gastrodon can stall it out. If you need to revenge it than any scarfed Thunderbolt user will kill it in one hit (Starmie gets a special nod here.) Protean Greninja can also switch in on it and threaten it out with HP Elec (although from the way things are looking fire will be the preferred choice.) Ferrothorn can switch in as well if Gyarados lacks Earthquake and stall it out. If stealth rocks are up then Gyarados is losing 25% on a switch in.
that’s the kind of info i need, thanks
That doesn’t apply to Mega Gyarados by the way. That thing will tear Gastrodon apart. Your best bet if it goes Mega will be priority fighting moves and fast bug moves.
Gyarados only knows Bite not Crunch, just an fyi.
Geez I’m dumb.
In that case Rotom-W (Who I forgot got retyped) walls any Gyarados easily. Just replace what I said about Gastrodon with Rotom-W. Gyarados also carries Bounce now that I look at it’s moveset so watch out for that.
Dragalge has Adaptability as its hidden ability lulz
In fact Rotom W can’t even be paralyzed by Bounce anymore. It’s the best Gyara-counter there is. If Gyarados goes Mega however he can hit you with Earthquake.
rotom W was very popular during my brief stint on pokemon showdown. it seemed like you had to run weather then.
Ah, the Weather Wars.
Poor Hail…
Hail always got shitted on…
Hail needs a Swift Swim variant for Ice types and a buff to Defense.
Ice types in general need a buff.
