After almost giving up. Needs a little work here and there but mechanically sound. Spent 1/3 of what I was expecting to pay when I started looking for a Miata. I’ll do the little shit it needs, and throw on some XXR 531’s, Raceland coilovers, a front lip, and a Maaco paint job. I am not going into this car as much as my Prelude.
So I finally taught my wife to drive a stick. she is kind of into it now and is more open to our next car being a stick (Though she really wants a Benz, trying to sell her on Bimmers).
I can see the appeal of the AMG Benz though (or even the Brabus tuned Benz). Oh well, I will be turning 30 in January, so I am getting myself a fun car for my bday. Not sure what I want to get, but I am certain it will be quick.
Yeah i mean these days american cars are actually becoming pretty cheap. That said im a sucker for an STi and with not a ton of work you can have them just as fast for cheaper than the viper. Like even if you get a corvette for 25 and the STi for 15, if you dump 10k into the STi it will shit on the vet.
Ferrari still being dicks so here is the 918 vs the P1
place your bets

Both are amazing. I think for some reason I am leaning slightly towards the P1. But in all honesty these cars are on a whole other level of engineering. True Hyper cars indeed.
Will it snap it’s axles in half like the regular ones do? Lol, and how much? 50k? Honda is charging an outragous 40+k$ for it a new si , what’s to keep this which will obviously be awd, from costing close to 45+k$. I don’t believe Japan can make a decently priced performance machine anymore. as much as I adore Japanese cars, all of it seems like their riding on hype from the 90’s.
Frs/brz cost 25k. That’s focus st money, and you have left over for more mods. Sti/evo/370z 35+k$ cars which are terrible cars. Terrible fuel mileage at all levels, slow as shit after 60 mph, can’t add real power without drivetrain overhaul. I miss 90’s Japan. The hype was real.
But then again, this will be marketed to a specific demographic, type of folks that can justify buying a golf R. Lol.
And no way a car like that with that kind of power is gonna make it to production outside Japan. It won’t pass emission standards. For some reason Japan doesn’t know how to make powerful engines and pass emmisions. Mercedes and American maufacturea have been doing this for a long time. Mercedes new AMG hatchback has 340+hp and tq from a turbo online 4. What’s Japan excuse for lack of power and handling for an affordable price.
I mean as far as handling goes, EVO’s and STis are unreal but i get what you’re saying. That said, any of these turbo 300HP cars are shit for gas mileage and expensive anyways so I think that its kind of stupid to look at. STi’s and EVO’s are meant to be tracked. And on the track they are unreal cars. So you really need to take that aspect into consideration. And what type of car within the same price range has better performance, mileage, and handling than these cars on the track? Yes the top ends of the AWD cars falls off but STi’s and EVOs arent drag cars. And don’t throw used car $s into the equation because yes… you can just buy a used vetted but then again you can make the same argument for just buying an 06 STi for half the above mentioned prices.
On one last side note, i drive and 07 SI and the new SI looks insane. And is overpriced as all shit but you know the experience driving that car is going to be fun as hell. 300hp NA is pretty sick. Too bad it wont make its way to Canada in that form
I used to be hype for the Japanese cars coming out. But in the case of the SI I havent been hype for one for about a few generations.
I find myself moving more and more towards Bimmers and Benzes. I finally got a chance to drive my uncles e92 M3 and I can’t really put the experience into words. I just know it felt like I wanted to keep driving it, like I did not want to hand over the keys.
I am also starting to find a fondness for AMG Benzes. the C63 AMG Black is an insanely sexy car and I wouldn’t mind owning one.
In all honesty the way cars are now and days, I am more focused on buying cars that I actually want. Not worried about what car is considered “better” or what not. I get a lot of flack from friends for being into German cars, but hey its my preference and they most definitely seem worth the investment to me.
Also my wife wants to buy a Mercedes Benz GLK, I may see about buying a used one in a year or two. Too bad there isn’t an AMG or Brabus tuned version.
Oh, and fuck the Civic. This Prelude is probably my last Honda.
If the CR-Z came with a motor worth a damn, I’d have one. But it doesnt and would need a K20 swap, which on top of the car’s price (especially considering its new) would be stupid.
I’ve never really liked the Evo tbh. I liked the tenth gen until I found out that it’s only fast until 60, and making it keep it’s speed after 60 results in some really expensive overhaul. For 45k, which is what you pay for the fastest one, that’s vette money.
The thing about why the WRX isn’t imo a great deal compared to the ST, is that if you want more out of it, it becomes really expensive. It has weaker drivetrain than the STI, so you’re stuck with what you got. It definitely is a better car by far over the BRZ. And I can see it being worth it if you want something new, relatively fast, and you aren’t planning to upgrade. It’s a pretty cool car for that price with AWD. I can respect that because you can still do other cool shit with it. It’s not always about power.
As for the fuel milage for the STI and EVO, I look at the 3 pony cars and they get better milage, and are faster by far. Up to 60 and they keep pulling way more than those two could.
Also, for cars, EVO money you could have gotten a
Boss 302, Vette if you looking at track cars. Even the GT 5.0 with the track package makes for a good well rounded track car. . Personally I think the STI is priced fairly at 35k because it’s a rally car, and it does that well. I just don’t understand people that buy rally cars with the intention of making them drag monsters. If you want a “fast” car for the “Streets” just get a manual American V8, because those two do not impress me one bit for that application.-*/
I can dig the SI but I don’t get the pricing. Personally, they should have made a hot version of the J series V6 engines (best NA v6 imo) and put that in there to keep costs low. But it’s honda, and they would still overprice it. Looks at the Accord HPVE package.
Considering the 2015 STi has the previous 2.5 motor… why would anyone buy it ? (its a good car, not complaining, but patients will get you a better STi next year)
not to mention the fact an ecu flash and bolt ons gets you close to the STi’s power with the new more torqey-er 2 liter engine… better daily driver fo sho.
Lets talk about that baby F-TYPE that is the 2016 MX-5…, Mazda wins again with the ND body.
