square gates

any tip for shoto players using square gates

Remove the gate. You’re game will increase 10x overnight. If anyone says otherwise about playing gate-less they just don’t know.

Oh so if i have a TE stick that has a Square gate i can remove it and, if so is there a thread showing how or a youtube video

Don’t remove the gate; it’ll screw up your stick.

Here’s a tip…research your inquiries at the Tech Talk forum.

I agree, also doing the secret 360 motion for dragon punches improved my game ten fold.

stop being so fucking obsessed with gates.

Yea this is not the forum for it but you might just want to switch to that…(an octogonal gate).

Or just practice, try not to exaggerate motions, I’ve heard of trying to not hit the edges also…

thanks for the tips sorry if i posted in the wrong spot

I don’t think it’s a matter of obsession as much as it’s a matter of preference. For instance, I play on Happ sticks because that’s what all of the arcade cabinets in my area had. On a comp stick, you can’t even tell that there’s any kind of actuator or gate in the stick at all, even thought it’s a square shape.

I’ve recently been trying to make the transition to Japanese sticks (just for the hell of it). After playing on countless stock TE’s, I found that the square gate Sanwas just feel really uncomfortable for my playing style. Then I played on a friends’ modded TE with an octo-gate, and it never felt more natural.

Point is, I’ve had a million people tell me not to worry about what kind of gate to use, only to find that they don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

I’m not denying any of this. You were used to a gateless stick so of course an octogate is gonna feel more natural.

All these new dudes however never even touched a stick and worry about every minute detail like it’s gonna magically make the transfer to stick easier. Just buy a sanwa JLF or a seimitsu LS-32 and use it STOCK.
