Spy Headquarters : C. Viper General Discussion

Just so people know half the reason I picked up C.Viper is because of the similarities I saw in her to Ibuki in 3S. Now that Ibuki is in SFIV Skisonic and Keits got me on a podcast to do an interview about myself and how I got started in the scene with 3S Ibuki and how I translated over to SFIV. I talk about the general similarities I saw between Ibuki and Viper and the specific things that Ibuki had in her gameplay in 3S and how I hope they translate well in IV. The podcast should be up by 8 am EST tomorrow.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeettt… good shit DJ. Looking forward to that. Ibuki is the only new character that I am going to give a serious shot at playing. I bet most Vipers will alt her due to the similarities.

Looks like viper is getting some changes in AE

From the latest AE Dev Blog:

Bump

Kinda sucks that I got on the scene way after things got so quiet. Maybe things might pick up with the updated AE matchups. Anyway, I’ve been practicing (FFF>ex seismo right now) to no end developing my execution and rummaging through the pages chewing on the info. There’s some really good stuff here if ya dig through it. I gotta make sure to relax a bit so I don’t get impatient with the months it’ll take to get pretty good with her.

lol I was just wondering where this thread went although the viper section is pretty dead right now.

There something that I thought of back when Super came out that I just remembered about having do with picking which version of a tk.feint to do. I find doing naked hp.tk feint useless not because it’s harder to do but because it’s way to fast it’s hardly noticeable I want my opponent to realize that I just did something and not just be like wtf was that sound just now, thats why I think lp.tk should always be done naked or when your trying to bait something since it makes a bigger flash and has electricity coming out making it look like the start up of an actual tk. I only use hp.tk feint to cancel the recovery of seismo or my normals during block strings and thats it. I think mp.tk feint is useless unless you can’t do a hp.tk feint, maybe it won’t hurt to do it when the opponent is in jump in range since it has less recovery than the lp version.

I remember that I always used hp.tk just cause it was very fast but when I did it ppl never flinched or reacted to it cause it’s way to fast that they either don’t notice it or realize it was a feint due to the fact that when they see me do the hp feint it’s already done and I’m just standing there, it’s as if I did nothing.

I don’t know if this was discussed but just sharing on something I noticed I was doing wrong, well wrong for me at least I guess it just comes down to preference but it make’s sense to me.

That’s actually a good point. I can’t do a naked hp. tk (fingers NOT that fast lol) but yeah, if they can’t even see the feint then I doubt it’s gonna fulfill any purpose. Unless maybe someone was reacting based on sound but for a hp feint there wouldn’t be any time to react to it.

walks in after 11 days

Hello again. Glad to see you all waiting lol. I’m happy to say that my practice with Viper has been pretty fruitful. Today I’ve gotten a good enough grasp on FFF>ex seismo to incorporate it into my gameplay (although with full meter a super comes out sometimes instead of the seismo) and it is an immensely rewarding feeling. It was getting kinda boring using cr. mk>mp tk as my only BnB anyway lol. I was able to do it once I realized that I should wait to do the feint-fierce AFTER I see the first fierce connect, then it was a cakewalk to do it consistently. It’s a lot more pleasant to own Seth in arcade mode now :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s one thing that I’m experiencing now in playing SF: All my actions+reactions are more intuitive rather than “slow”, like I would think without words in every match and in turn adapt and react faster whereas before I’d be thinking in words and it would take me a few matches before I start implementing a strategy.

Viper is awesome.

When I can afford it, I want a custom-made Arcade Stick with official Viper art on it. All black buttons + balltop with Viper on the face. Yeah.

I’ll join you in this empty thread. :stuck_out_tongue: I wanted to play Viper since I got Vanilla (which was only last year after Super was released, but Vanilla was super cheap!), but I lost online badly, did some research, and decided that my thumbs weren’t talented enough to do her high execution stuff on pad (plus at the time I didn’t even come close to wrapping my head around fighting games). So I said I want to get an arcade stick, but I couldn’t really reasonably afford one at the time. Fast forward like 7 or so months later and I joined a local group of SF players sort of in my area, got SSFIV, picked up Juri, then dropped her for Rose, and then got a stick that one of our members generously has been letting me borrow, and is now selling me for a good deal (that guy is awesome!).

Pointless story aside, my game has gone up a lot, so I decided to try and learn Viper again recently. She’s mad fun, but definitely hard for me to use. I’m terrible at landing seismos, whether it be from spacing or me just guessing wrong on what they would do. I’ve mostly been in training mode practicing FFF stuff (after having a lot of fun doing strings into cr.strong sjc xx Ultra), and just last night (well, this morning, it was like 5 am), I finally landed FFF xx EX Seismo SJC xx Ultra… on someone elses console. :stuck_out_tongue: Still, it felt good. I do occasionally take out my Viper against people (I pretty much only play in person actually), but it’s pretty free.

As a side note, I can do naked fierce TKs, but it’s pretty hard. I got to a point to where I could do around 10 in a row (7~10/10 abouts). I did this in prep for FFF, but when I started practicing FFF I failed every time. I quickly figured out that the timing for FFF and naked fierce TKs are waaaay different.

Finally, kudos to subzero and his awesome Viper thread. I actually subscribed to it the day before it was stickied. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: So I mentioned that I landed the FFF xx EX Seismo SJC xx Ultra this morning (first time). Well I decided to see if I could do it on my console (and clear that challenge), got it 3rd try. Trial 24 clear.

I share similar beginnings to you. I started out a novice with a used copy of SSF4, wanted to main Viper, got destroyed online, got an arcade stick, studied and practiced, and here I am still practicing, although I’m better than I was before. It’s been an interesting journey so far.

Yeah, Naked fierce tk’s are a whole different story compared to FFF. I actually haven’t touched trial mode in a while. After I got a grasp on the fundamentals with Ryu, I switched back to Viper. I couldn’t do his trial 24, but as of now I don’t care about trial mode at all.

It’s awesome that you have a local group to play with. I actually would prefer that over playing online, but as of now I haven’t been playing against anyone but the CPU to practice execution and proper reaction. I still got a ways to go though.

I’m so glad I have an arcade stick now, it just feels right.

I enjoy doing the trials. I’ll often do them as a warm up and I’ll try to add stuff to the combo that isn’t required for the easy ones. Like instead of just Hadoken, I’d jump in roundhouse, cr.forward xx Hadoken. I have about 71% complete overall for trials. I’d love to get 100% just to have it say 100%. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I found the group in the SRK Regional section. Which is good since I can’t actually play online at home. I have to drive 20+ minutes to get to the group but it’s totally worth it. It’s more enjoyable to play with friends in person than online. If you haven’t checked out that part of SRK I definitely recommend it. If there isn’t a group near you, you could always try starting one yourself!

Yeah, I see have some people around, but I’m gonna hold off a bit on playing against other people until I get my game up to a decent level.

The best way to get your game up to a decent level is to play people! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wait, I meant get my execution up.

About a week ago or so I finished all of Viper’s trials.

This thread is always getting lost because ppl are always making a thread to ask a question instead of asking in the umm questions and answer thread! People these days always wanting to do unnecessary things.

Ibuki has an Unblockable off neckbreaker! That’s just wrong. I never knew neckbreaker was so unsafe I always had trouble punishing it so I usually grab. Thanks for the info was a nice read, I play ibuki a bit but at a low level(spam vortex all day) so I was just going off what I remembered.

C.Viper has a mid screen unblockable from a forward throw and its really easy lol, I’m still testing it but right now I know it works on Sakura and Fei.

Theirs also an old setup I forgot about in the corner that’s a reverse-blockable safe-jump, setup is f+throw, whiff sweep when opponent hits the floor, sj.hk. I think it works on everyone except maybe cammy & sagat since they get up a frame slower.

Edit: This what I have so far.
Mid-Screen F+throw unblockable= F+throw, sj when they hit the ground, whiff j.hk during the sj, jump immediately upon landing, j.hk. (F+throw, whiff sj.hk, j.hk)

Sadly only works on Sakura(HK), Fei(MK), and Gen(Mantis=MK) (Crane=all-blockable).

Mid-Screen B+throw unblockable= B+throw, wait for the tip of her braid to touch her jacket, slight step forward, j.hk. (B+throw, slight walk forward, j.hk)

Works only on Fei(HK), Ibuki(HK,MK), Sim(HK), Bison(HK=reverse-blockable), and Cammy(HK=reverse-blockable)

Both setup’s serve as ambiguous cross-up on almost the rest of the cast with the exception of a few which the setup become an all-blockable or whiffs if they block a certain direction. Both setups are safe-jumps & will make almost all reversals whiff(not fully tested) even if Viper would hit them in the front if they were to block the setup if they do a reversal Viper always appears behind them.

R.I.P Viper forums 2008-2011 :frowning:
Not even an Unblockable could start a conversation, that’s my que to finally leave lol I can’t believe I stuck around this long.

lol, don’t say that. I don’t think anyone scrolls below the main topics as much.I was actually trying your setups. Couldn’t quite get them consistent though… :frowning:

Well theirs like 4-5 of us who still post so that’s pretty dead to me, I have known about these for awhile except for the f+throw one so I thought I would try to bring some life back into the Viper threads by posting something most wouldn’t know about.

Watched this a couple months ago when I realized the unblockable

Uryo goes for the F+throw unblockable here but it doesn’t work on T.Hawk but you get to see the timing of it.

Kyabetsu does the reverse-blockable here.

I don’t have a vid of the B+throw unblockable nor have I’v seen a vid of someone doing it sorry

Thought I’d share one more

I wanted to mess with U2 but that craps animation takes up almost the entire record time so its impossible to figure anything out by yourself. Peace Viper forums I probably wont post here again unless I’m bored or something.

Thx for all the set ups PchrisGI !

You have another one … kyabetsu does (at 1:21) in the corner f throw, stand HK (you can see him holding up forward during the double kick), jump HK
I didn’t try it myself yet… don’t know if it is a safe jump ? blockable/unblockable ?

Also at 38 seconds … I tried this instant BK U1 middle screen … I chose yang as the dummy.
If you do the lowest possible BK, yang will come back in front of you… a little higher he goes the opposite way.
I could do it a couple of time but I had a lot of trouble doing the U1 … sometimes I would get EX TK … I guess the cross up inverts the input ?
Anyway I couldn’t do it consistanly … anyone tried this ? any tips ?
Does it work on other chars ?
