Spy Headquarters : C. Viper General Discussion

Yeah just try different times to execute until you get it. Trial and error FTW.

Haha, finally started getting my fp tk feints into muscle memory, awesome. I think I’m getting my FFF execution back as we speak!

Sweet, though I’m a bit worried that’ll I’ll be eating FFFs constantly when I play you again, lol.

Finally stopped being lazy and reached 8K GP. Why can’t I win in 3 bars? Chun-Li’s are giving me grief online with their block strings, I try burning kicks to escape but they don’t come out and I can’t tech tick throws properly online even though I know they’re coming, so I’m going to start backdashing out of there.

Getting the hang of SJC FADC in matches(but Ultra never pulls out, keep getting EX Seismo:sad:) and I’m punishing more moves with FFF more than I used to. Also uploaded a new replay, terrible first round but the second round was alright.

Well seeing you’re in Europe you probably run into more 3 bars than players in the US. I try to just avoid 3 bar players altogether unless I think I’ll beat them for free (don’t have much GP…their avatar has trainee or legendary loser etc, has Ken’s pic etc.).

Ahh, yeah Chun’s are a pretty huge problem. Their pokes have such high priority that it isnt worth it to do any footsies with them most of the time. I pretty much try to do overheads against a Chun whenever I can, or try to time a right jump in. For the SJC BK’s it really is all about timing it, you would need sharp angle BK’s cause they are always in crouch mode, so to cross them up you need to do some crazy fast BK’s.

I lol’d at that part. But yeah, I’m just going to start avoiding fighting strangers in 3 bars unless I have no choice.

Yeah, I need to work on the angle of burning kicks against Chun, they fly right over her when she’s crouching and I always keep forgetting to make use of the overhead for some reason. Thanks guys!

It’s funny, Chun players generally can’t stand Viper.

Hahah, I can’t stand Chun players

you have to remember that against chun she is pretty bad when someone’s in her face. her jab can be stuffed by viper’s s.lk. if you’re in 3 bars, mashy chun will beat you and all you can do is pray because viper is only good 4+bars.

3 bar connection = “oh my burning kick mixups didn’t work because i didn’t time them right/landed as i did the motion” etc.

^ Don’t you love going for that crossup burning kick and you just land right in front of them and stand there for 2 seconds waiting for them to hit you.

There should be an animation when that happens, like Viper stomps her foot on the ground like her burning kick boot isn’t working.

Haha… most of the games I play are 3 bars… sigh.

I played a frequent poster in this section today in Championship Mode, name looked super familiar and I knew it was someone from here when we both picked Viper, name is escaping me right now, GG though. My FFF xx EX Seis xx BK xx Ultra was the FIRST i’ve ever landed online while actually trying it

Damn shame I had to do it to another Viper

BTW, If you’re SJing after trying to cancel a landed Seismo into any punch move, you’re doing the inputs too fast.
If you’re like me and have a really bad habit of doing everything super fast even when unnecessary, just wait for her to pound, then do a super fast TK or Seis.

Sup, spies.

Haven’t been here in a while. I’m pretty satisfied how I’m playing with Viper.

I’ve noticed Sagat is much harder to zone than Ryu. His fast tigers don’t allow me to trade when I’m in the lead. Hard to reaction seismo them. Also, gotta be aware of tiger knees going over seismos that are let out. If I choose to absorb, it’s not that great because fierce knuckle trades with his jump in. Hard to avoid and regain health.

Once I’m playing better in neutral vs Sagat I’ll feel a lot better. I’ve been maximizing damage opportunities and landing all my FFF’s in tournament situations recently, I just need to step up my zoning.

Speaking of FFF, I tried it the way DevilJin does without negative edging. It’s actually not that hard, as I thought it would be. Could be done mad late too, so it’s pretty damn cool. It sounds sexy when the buttons are tapped too. So it’s looking sexy on the screen, but sounding sexy IRL, YA FEEL ME?

Just thought I’d stop by here, still keeping the spy in my inventory for evo.

Sagat is a biotch if the guy knows the match up very well… still do-able though.

Meh, I’m pretty much off of SF 4 online now. Too much shit to put up with for little actual reward. I’ma take some time to try out BB.

Because BB’s online is so much different than SF4?

You seriously don’t need negative edge to do FFF. If it helps you out, that’s great but I think it’s more cumbersome to do negative edge. It screws up my timing.

This is what I do:

stand/crouch FP
2-in-1 to FP Thunder Knuckle
leave stick at neutral position after doing FP TK motion
after timed delay, hit PP to feint
immediately hit down-forward on stick
hit FP almost immediately afterwards
confirm hit and complete Seismo motion (down, down-forward + PP)

I leave the stick in neutral after the 2-in-1 because I was getting all sorts of different results during/after the feint period. Mainly another FP TK or EX Thunder Knuckle. Leaving the stick in neutral during this time nearly eliminated that problem for me.

I don’t like to rely on FFF but I do practice it a lot in hopes that someday I can execute it 99% of the time.

Can’t zone Sagats for the life of me, I also need to work on this. I usually resort to knocking them down and abusing cross-ups and BKing uppercuts but by the time I’ve gotten to him, I’ve lost a good amount of life. due to focusing and chip damage. Though sometimes I can predict a fireball and blast him out of it with a Seismo or super jump over it and hit him with a combo.

Ex Seismo sjc fadc>Ultra is very helpful for me, it’s allowing me to make a lot of come backs when I have low life and 1 bar left. Still need to work on my mix-up game, but it seems everytime I feel I’ve trained my opponent enough and go for something like cr.mk>thunder knuckle feint>dash>cross up instant burning kick, or even just sjcing my normals into a burning kick cross-up I always get hit out by a jab, so I normally don’t bother and just cross them up all day on wake-up or get a knockdown and set up for FFF combos which can be predictable.

That’s actually exactly how I do it Kunai. Gotta make sure you keep the stick in neutral so SFIV doesn’t mess you up.

FFF without neg edge is simple but IMO it feels like I’m mashing and pressing the buttons to hard. Negative edging helps me with two things 1. A systematic easy way for doing FFF 2. Makes it hella easy to transition to make multi fp feints part of your game in mid battle. Try negative edging fp feints mid game instead of p linking. Makes things slot easier
