Crouching Jab, Jab Jaguar Kick is pretty hard to do. It’s a 1 frame link I think and it’s his BnB because you can combo it into ultra 2, end it when you get a hit jumping in and all that. As long as you master that part I think you would be golden. Frame traps are fairly learnable compared to that shit.
cheeseburger I got owned by the atm in your building today for $3 dollars . Didn’t realize there was a shopping center in there too?
Adon is my main. I’ll be happy to help you out. Next time we do a gathering you can just watch me and steal whatever you like off me.
He’s not too bad execution wise there’s just somethings you should know right off the bat. One is if you do more than two jabs (or the last normal you do is c.medium) or they are just farther than normal, end with lk Rising Jaguar. The other is you need to react to whenever you hit someone that’s crouching and do EX Rising Jag instead. This also means that you have to end your combo faster because EX Jag has only a little more range than HK rising jag.
Strats wise he really generally forces the other character to respect you, which is why I like him so much. If you are playing properly the only venue for them to beat you is by outsmarting you, it’s a lot less likely someone will random Adon out.
The basic things I would start with for mindgames are using your short jump to get people paranoid about air jags. What I mean by this, is regularly jump in from outside the range where they can DP AA you, and do nothing. Since people know about the air jag they might lock up and that let’s you start peppering them with your excellent normals once you land or once in a while smothering them with real air jag attempts.
Another strat I love to use is whoring out HK jag as part of the jab jab HK Jag string. the two jabs leave you at the perfect spacing for it, and almost anything they do will get stuffed. If they jump they get stuffed, if they hit a normal, they get stuffed, if they focus they get stuffed. Hell if the spacing is right they could get stuffed doing a DP as well because the DP might whiff and the HK jag will rotate and come down on their head. Simply an excellent strat. And then of course you have good walk speed , awesome footsies and great advantageous normals if you can keep them honest (c.jab and c.strong are both + on block with c.strong being +2). About the HK Jag spacing, you can do that spacing against shotos as they wake up and chances are they can do nothing about it. If you did max spacing and they DP the DP will whiff and you will hit them (and the best followup to a hit HK jag is HK Jag or electric aerial jag’s lol, especially if they are in the corner). If they blocked well then they block an HK jag and you are at your ideal space lol.
If you ever need real frame traps (most lower intermediate players and scrubs will seriously die to jab jab hk jag), c.jab > c.strong will beat mashers and c.jab > close s.fierce will stuff latest possible throw tech. Plink the short for the close s.firce hit confirm and if you nailed it just end with rising jag. I recommend training mode for this.
Going back to strat talk involving Jag kicks, the whole thing about jumping into the mixup between do air jag or empty jump ties into your other tool: Jag kicks on the ground lol. If they lock up too much, you can throw out the appropriate Jag kick depending on spacing (prefferably spaced at the very tip of Adon’s heel) and you are basically in lol. Some characters have very good on reaction tools for jags though (Sak c.fierce and Juri C.Strong I believe) but often times the best tools a character have to deal with it can’t be input fast enough to deal with on reaction unless the player has godlike reactions. If you ever realize your opponent has ass reactions even with a character that has good legitimate single input counters, by all means whore appropriately spaced jag kicks with impunity.
I guess that’s it for real adon specific strats. He really only has the one move and it’s seven variations. From there it’s basically all about matchup knowledge and footsie strats, which is a different beast altogether and a far more universal language that doesn’t really involve adon at all (not specifically anyway). I will say this: Twitch a lot. People are going to respect you a lot once you have established your Jag kick game so you can pretty much go right into the rhythim based footsie mixups .i.e. twitching and otherwise waiting a tad bit longer before attacking than normal and then either landing a CH or whiff punishing. Once you do that then the next step in the yomi is obviously walkup throw/overhead etc and the story continues.Twitching by ducking helps specifically because a lot of times you are going to twitch when you want to do a real jag kick anyway. And since more characters don’t have a definitive “stop that shit” move for Jag they just have to try and get in your head or bust.
P.S. If you ever need to AA someone and you can’t use HK Jag for whatever reason, j.strong is your homeboi.
EDIT: I guess I didn’t really go into the corner game though, which is really scary with Adon. I’ll do that in the future.
Damn son, ATM fees are a bitch. Are you talking about tower square? it kinda is but it’s not really.
any tourneys this weekend anyone is planning to head out to? might want to try my hand at MK9/MvC3. Fuck Super still. Tried it again and still haaaaaaate it.
I thought towersquare was across the street from your building? or is it all apart of the same thing?
Hey Pat, I think cheeseburger and I are going to souper bowl Sunday and I think its only tournament is being held this weekend. Ponch, thanks for the read. I only started playing Adon for a few casuals at last P.F. Before I get into a bad habit, the J. Tooth (wall move) I was using it a lot. I found it on safe on block but you never mention it in your read. Any reason to this? I was trying to use it at random times then whiff it on purpose therefore they them self whiff a DP then I punish that DP. <---- Should I continue this or just plain dont do it.
It is across the street from my building. Also Essex wants a results thread put up lol
