I just spent 5 hours battling in SFIV(yeah I need to catch up), and the amount of immaturity is ridiculous.
I am not a good player by any means, and people will taunt, but then I beat them and I am like, okay so you are taunting because…?
Even the decent players online taunt, and I laugh because I must have gotten them mad or irked them enough for them to taunt me.It’s a form of flattery to me.
I think I’ve taunted someone once after I did the exact same move/combo to them just to say, wow I can do that too and I am terrible.
Then someone accused me of rage quitting. I have been getting my ass kicked for 5 hours, but I never rage quit. I sent messages to those people who I thought had good games and even created a newbie motto = "I may be terrible, but win, taunt or lose, I’ll keep fighting until my hands are bruised and can’t be used!!!"
My connection went out for a minute. My DC ratio is 0% Lol. The dude trash talked me like he was sooo great, but he used Seth which is another form of flattery.
I might need a LOT of work on execution and strategy, but I seem to have a good psych game foundation, I guess. shrugs
Where are the honorable players who want to build and help the newbies so that in time we can have better matches and push each other to be the best players we can?
Cool story bro.
All I can say is, don’t let it get to you.
Think of it as a test, if someone taunts you, then you prove that you are not to be taunted with. Be motivated and clear, and focus your gameplay. It’s not a bad thing to lose to amazing players. That’s the point of the game, obviously if someone is better than you, he will beat you. It can get frustrating, but just keep your head up, hit the training mode a few times, and in no time, you will be the one taunting everyone.
You’re so secure in the fact that taunting doesn’t upset you that you made a topic on SRK about it. 'Kay
Sportsmanship, the distinguishing trait of true gentleman cyberathletes everywhere
wat
I never knew playing SF was a sport. (Yo #esports)
I play SF cus I want to beat the **** out of pixels.
The honour is bodying people. If you get bodied, big deal. Learn to deal with it and run it back.
None of this scrubquotes stuff about adhering to ‘certain rules’. If it’s in the game, it’s legal to use. Go right on ahead.
As long as you remember, the good players don’t give two ****s about online and it’s the 12-year old scrubs who go on a hormonal rage.
Yeah, I have no bloody idea what he meant either.
Well not online that’s for sure.
Why are you expecting hand outs anyway? Step it up yourself, thats what every good player did.
edit : Stop using the term sports in video games, let alone sportmanship. You don’t see this shit in the olympics.
the better matches come from playing better players, not some false sense of sportsmanship
You’ll most likely find them at tournaments, if you’re lucky. Oh, and if you don’t run into the pretentious gamers.
So taunting = bad sportsmanship?
Capcom must’ve wanted all their fans to be bad sportsmanlike since they’re the ones that included the ability to taunt
My Chun is all about good sportsmanship.
Every time I get a hard knock down, she says “Sorry!”
Well, personally, I feel that you can’t take taunting then you shouldn’t go into competitive gaming (well, if you are).
The point of this thread is…what exactly?? If you are trying to find people who aren’t dicks just say so. That entire story (although it was cool bro) was irrelevant to what I presume you were trying to say. Try putting what system you’re on before you ask for people to play with -.- Taunting by no means = bad sportsman ship. If it did I wouldn’t have a friends list because they would’ve all removed me by now. Also remember you are on the internet. There is no honor. There is only trolling, and not trolling.

Touché
I was referring to the fact that if you need to use a boss character on me, that’s flattering(because you need an overpowered character to beat an unskilled player like me), however it was a lame comment. Obviously if you find a semi-decent(if that) player, you are going to try out your alts and work on combos, mix-ups, etc.
The topic was 2 fold truly. I wanted to find better players, and I will head to the forums for that, and also, I wanted to know what everyone thought of taunting (and share an amusing anecdote).
Yeah I’m still trying to train myself to expect taunting, though I will say I only had one opponent disconnect. Part of competitive gaming is development of Iron Skin. I’l have to watch Five Deadly Venoms a billion more times and watch out for darts. =oP
I think the best (although lucky) rebuttal after a guy taunted me while I was stunned/dizzy, was that I mashed on the buttons to get out of stun and SOMEHOW I executed the SGS super and nailed him winning the round. I’m lightning fast on my SGS execution, I’ve been practicing the buttons for years while waiting on loading screens, but I don’t know how I got that one out.
Thanks for the advice and criticisms! Keep slinging them and I’ll absorb that which is useful and omit the rest.
Oh, FYI, I have been playing SF since SF2, however I have only been seriously playing SFIV (and all next gen fighting games) since December when I was gifted my next gen console (I am blessed with awesome friends!), thus my being terrible. NO sweat, we all start somewhere. Goes back to learning Iron Skin technique
this is going nowhere fast
