Spooky Announces EVO2012 Will Be His Last Stream

I’d actually love to see more of Spooky playing. D: He’s a fellow Cap bro in Marvel. Spooky is the man.

Probably because money doesn’t solve the issue. If only people cared to read and look into what he has to deal with at these events which would lead him to say it’s no longer fun. Spooky is a streamer, that’s what he’s paid/sought after for because his production is unrivaled and he’s a genuinely helpful and awesome human being who cares about the scene and the players. Spooky is not a TO, when he gets asked to events he shouldn’t need to take charge of the tournament because TOs like at power up sit around and toss their hands up in the air instead of trying to find a fucking solution to the power problem. How do you think it makes Spooky feel when he’s invited to stream events and those inviting can’t be assed to make sure what he needs is covered and working(not all tournaments are like this, Shinblanka is a professional for example). It’s no surprise he wants a break or potentially out of the streaming game when people can’t respect the service he provides or himself. Civil War this weekend, there’s no excuse for why Spooky doesn’t have updated brackets all the time or has to disable gems himself mid tournament holding up the stream and the players. Simply Inexcusable.

I have a exact mirror of Spooky’s streaming setup (minus the cameras, as does NerdJosh.) I havent even streamed my own tourney and even I know I want to stay far away from a whole event, I’d be hating myself too sitting my ass up for 12 hours a day

I guess its time for each community to have a stream man. One man/one team cannot handle 3 major events in 4 weeks. Can’t rely on Sp00ky for each damn major.

EDIT: I know the community cannot have a great quality stream like Sp00ky, but still, its better than not having these events covered.

Can you give us a detailed description of his setup? I want to stream but have no clue where to start. It seems far too expensive for somebody who is broke.

Spooky wasn’t given a sword at civil war…He got a “oh yea, thanks”

That was kind of poopy imo. During closing ceremonies dude was like “We have one final sabre…” and someone yelled “FOR SPOOKY!” and dude needed to edge himself away from that lol.

Really sad to see Spooky go. but you gotta do what you gotta do. And so I gotta commend him for actually stepping down.

While it’s sad to see Spooky go, folks should take this as an opportunity to step up.

Don’t blame ya. Play games first. Sit and watch them on secondary.

2012 especially is full of this “just sit and watch people play” shit that I can’t stand anymore and Sp00ky leaving just shows that it even hits the people streaming hard.

I had the most fun during the dark ages any ways. People actually played more than one fighting game competitively in the community. Even with the big surge in tournament attendance from SFIV…it’s still really just the select few people who have decided they want to pursue fighting games seriously enough to meet up offline at tournaments.

In reality more just like a glorified dark ages for tournament goers at best.

Much love to Skullgirls and here’s hoping to Darkstalkers 4 (hoping…).

Man, all you “we’re losing another great member of the FGC like gootecks!” guys can shut the hell up and eat a dick. Spooky hasn’t been able to participate in the community since goddamn EVO 2010 where he ran the salty suite. The ‘hardest working man’ shit isn’t a joke. He literally works too hard streaming to do anything he’d like to do, such as play melty or poverty.

Him quitting streaming means we’re GETTING A COMMUNITY MEMBER BACK, if you don’t understand that you’re part of the problem. Instead of bitching that he’s no longer devoting his entire life to bringing you free entertainment; you should be happy to see the return of goddamn Sp00ky the godfather, the man who played 8 man dojin fighter tournaments in the streets next to a snapple machine because he was that hungry to play.

Listen to how happy he is!

These days he just sounds tired.

I’m wondering about this comment (slight paraphrase):

“Yeah Spooky’s godlike, that’s why we get 2000 viewers during majors. Twitch TV cops have won”.

I get the impression that he doesn’t feel he is being rewarded for his effort. Something that started out “for the community” doesn’t feel like it’s worth it anymore, and I can’t imagine how it feels to see 80-100k on a Starcraft stream run by MLG and less than 1/20th of that for something you pour your heart and soul into.

I think this is a good sign that the current tournament/community run stream model can’t last for much longer. Either FGC will give in to corporate pressure or be all community run but smaller. Personally I love going to the community events, but I love the streams as well.

Good luck to Spooky and thanks for all you’ve done. If anyone in this community needs a break, it’s you man.

step up to what exactly? If Spooky gets 5-15k per major and it’s actually not viable as a business model you should know theres a problem. Next person who steps in is gonna burn themselves out again, and will have to quit their job to provide the same level of service that spooky does straight up.

Streaming is not viable at this level. On top of that Twitch does not come correct. Which is why we left in the first place. I didn’t go on my rants about Twitch during the past few months for no reason. I don’t hate them but it’s been 2 years, zero transparency in the streaming game. Now, finally starting to show some clarity with the CBS deal, but it’s still wayyyy in its infancy.

I don’t that people should simply follow Spooky’s model. There is some demand for that quality of streaming so it would be better if someone, either Spooky or someone else was eventually able to develop a business model for this that works.

i thought the reason hes leaving is because Streaming Cost a ton of money and he is making much due to people Using Adblocker?

For that to happen the content networks would have to be winning to play ball…Right now they are not. Meanwhile you see articles in Forbes every month about how viable this is, which makes me laugh to no end.

Hey Art, is Sp00ky getting fucked sideways due to adblock?

Sounds like the beginnings of an interesting article on the front page, though I’m not sure we’d be allowed to run it.
