Anyone been playing the multiplayer demo? It’s on Marketplace as a download and it’s pretty fucking sweet.
The demo servers are slightly gash (start System Link match, quit out then start Xbox Live match to get a game going) but they work well enough to see how the gameplay works. Everything’s been stripped down from previous Splinter Cells, so there aren’t 1,000 different gadgets to learn anymore. Spies have flash/smoke grenades and a remote hacking device, mercs have EMF vision and drones. That’s pretty much it. There’s also a new proximity beeper which means aggro spies can’t dominate the match anymore, because they can’t sneak up on mercs (at least not without two spies working a single isolated merc). Oh, and it’s three on three now, which also works better. What does everyone else think?
Definitely getting this on Friday, will be playing this online a lot…
I don’t have a 360 yet so I will be playing this for Xbox for now when I get it on Friday. One question though, is it possible to play 360 players if you have the Xbox version?
I only played as a spy and it seems pretty good so far…its hard because it needs the sensor to tell how dark an area is…on my screen its bright so i think they can see me when they cant so it made it hard to sneak. I hope they have alot more gadgets because thats what made it fun
You can’t play cross platform so no, no playing 360 players if you’re on the regular ol’ Xbox version.
Shibuya, if you’re being spotted in dark areas, it’s because you’re running about/jumping a lot - mercenaries have motion sensors. Move slowly if you don’t want to be spotted and… you won’t be spotted. And don’t use any vision modes or hacking either, otherwise you’ll be spotted through merc’s EMF vision. Otherwise, you won’t be spotted unless you have a torch shining in your face, it’s amazing how much you can get away with if you’re still or moving veeeery slowly. That’s how you use the power of 100% stealth. Believe.
Well i was play’n it on a friends 360 monday night, its pretty good. My only real complaint in that the spy’s and teh mercs kinda look the same. They shoulda kepts the spy’s in more of a black outfit, and the mercs shoulda kept thier helmets…
But there were some major improvents, the spy’s actua;;y move like ninja’s now, so u can move around alot faster. Like, whenu climb fences now u get to the top and just flip over and off the fence ( and u can even hang on a ledge after that and pull urself up) in teh old ones u had to climb down the other side of teh fence all slow… Jumping through windows, all kinda new stuff. So its gonna look pretty fuck’n nice when people start get’n used to the controlls and stages.
Even teh Mercs can actuially move fast now. The dash move goes for like 2-3 times as long, and u can just use it as a run to chase down spies. I did that shit one game, chased the spy down for a good 20 seconds and killed him, wheni fist saw him he was way @ the other end of the Hallway, if i didnt use the dash, he woulda been gone a long time ago.
The camra/robot thing the mercs have now is fuck’n bad ass!!! I dunno if n e of u know thins, but, u can use it to kill spys, just make it self destruct next to them (it kills mercs too) Try and keep that to urselvs guys…
But i dont think they striped the spies or the mercs down any. Its just a demo, so they’re not gonna give u all the gadgets… Plus, there like mode that explains all the new moves and stuff(training) for both mercs and spy’s, in there u can see that there is a much wider inventory than u have in the demo.
all in all, i dont like the new character designs, i wish the spy’s could hack and still use that like tazer gun, but the game play is a shitload fast and kooler looking & its 3 on 3. I’m gonna pick this up 4 Xbox after work 2day.:woot:
I know what you mean about spies and mercs being similar, I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to scream at a merc to stop shooting because he turned his torch off and panicked when seeing me.
The drones thing is brilliant, makes for perfect balance. A great way of stopping spies who hack and hide from distance, send a drone up after their ass and click… boom! EMF vision is a nice leveller too.
As for stripped down the spies and mercs… maybe that was bad phrasing. I mean streamlined, at the very least. Ubisoft said they wanted to make it more accessible and they have done, the millions of gadgets is what put me off Chaos Theory and the emphasis is back on cat and mouse rather than learning what a million different gadgets do and what their application is. I don’t think there will be that many more gadgets but I know for a fact, spies will only be able to carry one with them, as confirmed by Ubi. Which is a good thing because learning gadgets isn’t what Splinter Cell should be about.
Can’t wait 'til this comes out, I’m gonna pick mercs and spend all day headbutting noobs.
Damn that kinda sux, i like all the gadgets, IMO its wut made SC, SC… its stands out from all other fps online… I hope mercs still got the lazer and poison mines… So now spies can only carry 1 gadget?? well that kinda how it was in death match for chaos theory. But i’d always change the rules so spies and mercs could use wutever they wanted… So now i’ts more basic?? I hope in the death match u can still fuck with rules to have 4 gadets available for both spies n mercs, thats all i used to play on the old one n e way’s Death match baby!!
Yeah, Ubi is trying to makle the game more accessible - I don’t know how many gadgets spies get to choose from (I know health syringe is in there) but I’m 99% sure you only get to take one with you, going by 1) what Ubi has said, 2) the control system and 3) the fact you can only get one gadget from the crate behind the spy’s starting point. We’ll find out soon enough.
That’s why I said it was stripped down/streamlined but I prefer it this way in all honesty, onyx. It’s more about the mindgames (smashing windows elsewhere with remote hacking device, getting second spy to fuck with merc’s proximity beeper) than learning gadgets. The way it should be.
Well, SC was always about mind games, in the last one we use’d use sticky cam’s @ a part of the stage, then set an alarm snare somewhere next to it. When a merc walks over to check it out, spray the gas from the cam and put his ass to sleep. Then when his partner walks over to wake him(or not) we’d just double team him and break his neck, then when the sleeping guy wakes up he gets his neck broken too. And in the mist of all that going on we’d be use’n smoke and flash bangs to confuse them more. But ya, when i was watch’n tutourials for the spies i saw them use’n 4 gadgets, n they had to pic witch one to relaod @ the crate so… i dunno:confused: Maybee i took that wrong or something. I realy hope the optical camo is still in this one, cause i love that shit. But n e wa’s i’ll find out tnoght whne i get the game and i’ll let u know wuts up.

I’ve played the game more and I’m liking it even less. I’m getting really bad lag problems now, hosts keep disconnecting (I know they leave but still). Many Many times I get stuck in the searching for games screen and need to dashboard reset to try again. I really wish there could be a quick update to patch up this demo and perhaps allow personal room creations because getting a friend in your room without being booted, loading jammed or getting a full room is rediculous to attempt.
Even with the gadgets and stuff aside the basic fundamentals of gameplay have been dramatically altered. Spys cannot Wall Flip, Split Jump, Elbow Smack…at least that I can tell. If you get in a hallway with a merc you are so owned up close. I would like a bit more self defense tactics because I fell in love with the idea of being a crafty spy lacking any true way of easily killing the merc and having to work for my kills.
Mercs were all about the killing before but what made the game interesting is how the weak spy could still manage to kill if he so desired. Running and Hiding especially with all the new detection sounds and the fact that when spys are running in this version Mercs have Motion Vision on full time as a white outline forms around spys…to sum it up Running and Hiding is only fun for a short while and then you feel the need for some up close action. Spys kill people and thats what made the original so addiciting…it was still cat and mouse at heart but you had OPTIONS of gameplay methods.
Everything I remember about this game has been virtually stripped…I mean with the new cat and mouse idea woudln’t Optic Camo have been perfect? Why take a already perfect gameplay format that was loved by so many and drastically take away what so many loved. Some seem to like it this way and I just dont see it. You cant really have any fun as a spy anymore you just have to play ring around the rosey with the merc and run run run hide hide hide. Mercs are basically the same minus major items like mines. The competitive spirit of Splinter Cell multiplayer has been stripped down and made into an elaborate game of hide and go seek.
That sucks you cant go up to a merc and punch him a few times…it also sucks you cant use the taser gun and stun them…i remember sometimes when me and my friends were playing we were just try to kill eachother and not even do the goals…now from what i am hearing it seems like with a spy you have no chance of killing them unless you totally catch them 100percent off guard and it seems the only way to hit them is sneaking up behind them and breaking their neck…i was going to get this game mainly for the multiplayer because i loved SC pandora tommorow…yall keep me posted on the real game multiplayer when it comes out
I agree, but i think that was the wrong way of going about balancing gameplay. It resembles how the GG games have all of these features in the games to eliminate the possibility of there being infinites. The games feels dumbed down…alot.
I’ve been see’n ppl talk about “aggro” spies on all these furoms… I really dont get it @ all because… If both mercs and spies played with all wheapons on (as i do) and 4 gadets per merc/spy Mercs should have no problem winning… LOL, even with all the gadets, spies have to work hard as hell to get a win, and if u got 2 decent merc players, they’re not gonna make it easy to break thier necks no matter how much sticky’s smokes and flashes u use.
Since when did ppl start complain’n spy’s r too good?? Or is it just because people learned how top use them agressively?? You can disable the beep and there flashlight if you hack the merc. I actually like the new shit, spies are like waay more athletic now. You can do a shitload of moves with just rb. You can run and dive out windows and flip into ceiling vents mad quick. Only thing thats really pissing me off is the gay people that play. Host’s ending sessions when they’re getting wrecked and they even use the standy bs like people did in halo. You freeze up with some 10 second lag spike while the host finds and kills you. Pretty fucking gay if you ask me.

You can also get around the beep without hacking it. I’ve had mad times where some mercs were looking for me mad hard when I was right next to them. Walking around all nervous and shit, it can really fuck with them if they know your close and cant find you. I’ll sit there behind a couch or something and everytime he comes near me I just walk to the other side of it lol. Shit is mad funny.
I really wanted to get this for MP but hearing it’s dumbed down is discouraging. Is SP good? SC1 was really good SP but 2/3 were boring because it was just more of the same.
its quite obvious that you didnt know how to play a spy if you couldnt kill a merc WITH EASE…it was so easy killing mercs with spy it wasnt even funny…yeah mercs could kill spies easy too but when the spies didnt even go for doing the mission and just try to kill the mercs most of the stuff mercs set traps for didnt even work anymore…for example what me and a friend would do with a spy is one of us would use that laser that stuns mercs and the other would in that time frame where the merc is stunned go behind and break the merc neck…it worked every time…and also a spy could be on a crate right about a merc and just jump off and land on a merc and instant kill…yeah i miss all the gadgets but actually its a spy vs merc game now not a spy vs spy.

Mercs=== can kill u 6 ways…Frag, gun, lazer/proxy mines, poison mines. Besereck’n a spy try’n 2 jump on ur head and the charge move/choke’n neck break
Spies=== can kill u 3 ways… jumping on ur head, breaking ur neck or shooting a lazer/proxy mine when a merc is nearby. Thats it… Making the odds of “kill’n technique” 2/1 in the Mercs favor…And since most scrubs never used mines it was even worst 4 spies but the mercs still end up get’n that 2/1 favor in ways and ease of kill’n thier apponent…
Ok lets just put it this way…We would never play the missons, we’d just play death match all the time and turn everything on. When i was a spy i’d charge right in, not much sneaking around. I want u to see me, why u ask?? Cause while ur busy shooting @ me , my partner is sneak’n up on ur partner 2 break his neck. Then when u realize ur partner just died, u get double teamed. That simple. There are many ways to accomplish this. But this is just one basic strategy. When i was a spy me and my partner (2nasty) would win 95% of the time…When we were Mercs, u basicly had no chance of winning… I remember 3-4 times when we played people better than we were and loss as spies and mercs. So ya, trust me kill’n with a spy was’nt far from a problem with me, but kill’n with a merc was damn near effortless. I know wut im doing in that game, but the new shit is just striped… I’ll mis my optic camo…:shake: :crybaby:
