Spiral Q & A - Ducvader's Thread

im still in it. spiral is that chic

I’ve been experimenting with spiral/sent for a while now but I still can’t get the trap perfected. I read earlier in this forum that to practice you should go to training mode and set the computer to jump and block and if they can’t jump then you got the trap down, but I still can’t seem to get it right. Is there any pointers you guys could give me to get this trap down? Also who’s a good third for this team? I’ve been playing BH because I can’t entirely keep the enemy on the floor but I’ve seen Cable used alot as the third. Any pointers you guys could give me would be appreciated.

Spiral: could use a solid anti-air assist to thwart rushdown…preferably one that allows you to create the space/time necessary to re-sword and start trapping

anti-air: preferably someone who could make big things happen with the decent amounts of meter that spiral is able to build while trapping

That is at least one of the popularly successful mindsets for placing the 3rd char on Spiral/Sent duo

Achieving some sort of nice reward for a variable counter is also an anti-air assist plus

If you are using Blackheart aa more than Sent-drones, you might fancy spiral/blackheart/aa (iirc blkheart-aa doesn’t achieve the same chip as sent-drones tho you get diff spatial control), but it is all about team chemistry and balance. for example, if you are forced to play one of your 3 characters in a point situation, how comfortable would you feel doing so paired w/ your other 2 char assists or even solo? especially if you have to try and make a comeback

IMO I think drones are the way to go instead of AA with spiral… most of the time…

Least for me… if they get out of the trap and are s.jumping in on me I normally prefer to call drones and teleport out… safer most of the time… and you might get the chance to combo off some drones…

does anyone have a way to start the trap against a flying up backwards sentinal? Is it throw one sword, quickdrop land then begin trap?

Yeah, that’s fine, throw 1 sword, quick drop call sent and throw the rest on the way down, reload, toss your swords, reload, throw one sword and see what sent does. If he doesn’t jump or fails jumping away, trap.

When bringing down a flying or SJinp Sent, I’m usually laszy don’t quick drop, and just toss 2-3 swords in SJ, land, call sent +toss the rest, reload, dash trap if it locked down, or stay at full screen distance and throw one sword and wait to see what Sent does. I like to follow the drones with a dash, and for me quickdroping+assist call in this situation makes sent come out too early. To each his own.

Banshee pretty much said it.
When you have six swords and sj the first sword and the 4th? IIRC come out above her.

i think what happens is when ur in the air with a flying sent and u quick drop, it drags the top of the screen down, which drags sentinel down into the knife no matter how high he flies. i got an idea to throw a knife, quick drop, dash to the other side and crossup.

Thx guys sorry for the late reply. Imperfect we should have some games. We’re not too far from each other so the connection should be good. My gamer tag is in my profile.

Would Spiral/Sent/Cammy or Morrigan be good, or has it been determined that Duc’s team is unquestionably the best Spiral team?

It’s the best spiral/sent team that’s for sure… and I’m not sure adding anyone but cable will truly use the meter she builds like he does… what can ya say… cable is broke as hell.

I’m not particularly fond of Cable, and Sent (i.e I’ll learn him if I have to but I can’t fastfly/unfly at ALL) isn’t a must for me, but from what I can tell Sent is pretty much required to play Spiral, and if Cable is the best third on this team…I may need to try another team lol.

Unless you can play Spiral without Sent/Cable. It’s not like I’m avoiding god tier 'cause it’s god tier and I’m trying to be cool (I play the third best character in BB, look at my avatar lol), I’m just not fond of those characters.

How exactly do you do the Spiral trap? is it jump, call sent xx load swords, qcb + rh, shoot swords while doing down, jump, reload, qcb + rh, repeat.

So are you reloading the swords before you use them all up? or are you using up all the swords before calling sent again?

elderdruid: spiral trap doesn’t involve qcb+rh. That’s only to make a flying sentinel drop down into your swords. Ground trap and jumping trap are 2 different versions of a sword trap she has. You do’nt have to use up the last sword or 2 at times, or sometimes you can use up all swords… you just have to see the gaps and see how your sword pattern is coming out. All comes with practice.

I’m on PSN under kaz-dj if anyone wants to play against or see a decent spiral. I typically use spiral/cable/magneto-a. I’d say I’ve only come across maybe 3-4 players so far (I say so far, but of course I haven’t played everyone) on PSN who know how to combat Spiral effectively. So if you learn Spiral, be prepared to own most people pretty bad. Not a bad perk if you’re willing to practice with her.

I say most of her stuff you will have to pick up while playing, not in training mode. Stuff like learning where to teleport behind the opponent, when it’s safe to load swords, different ways to load (like tk load), when to do snapback (esp on a HSF-happy sentinel)… it all comes with practice in-game. And DO punish those Sentinel’s that just do HSF for no reason, either with a teleport into j. fierce> j. rh> combo\snapback , or with a Level 3 meta.

Some players who have otherwise great magnetos just fall apart against a mediocre spiral, let alone if you’re pretty good with her. She’s definitely worth learning just for her anti-magneto capabilities.

THis question is specifically for Duc: What is the science behind Spiral’s regular throw? Is there a specific input sequence to get maximum damage?

mash immediately after you input command to grab. Also there is a bit of luck involved even if you mash like crazy sometimes you’ll end up doing very little. The data that shows maximum like 119 dmg or something is impractical just so you know.
