Chrisis. Blow-up the Akuma assist somehow and Justin’s team is ugly. I’ve noticed the big thing with him is if his akuma goes down he will most almost always lose the round. Or atleast this is what I’ve noticed. The only bad thing is he doesn’t put the assist in too many bad situations. A few tournaments ago he was but not now.
what are some assists besides dante’s jam session, ammy’s cold star, and sentinel’s drones that lets you do unblockables with viper’s focus attack.
Well, covering your assist is Marvel 101. The problem between new players and old players is that old players know how to make their assist work for them while keeping them safe. Unfortunately, it feels a lot easier to punish assists in MvC3 then in MvC2. I’d rather take a double snapback then a Bogo any day.
Rkyendawg:
Doom Rocks, and Trish’s Round Harvest Super can setup the unblockable.
Found a couple decent set-up with ammy’s cold star into an unblockable. Provided they’re in a corner it works perfect.
Its Ammy (cold star), m.Seismo FADC Focus attack. Only way to escape is a tag switch but that is all level 3 focus attacks. This one is situational but I almost got it off the last time I played. Messed up my input because I got all excited.
Then if you ever get an advantege to tri-dash an opponent into an overhead in the corner here is an easy one that can’t be escaped.
Tri-dash~ATK (land) st.M+ammy coldstar xx l.seismo xx FADC Focus attack lvl 3
Also st.M xx l.seismo is a frametrap for those who care. And this will be a combo if it hits so… yeah!
Currently working with Viper/Dante/Wesker. I played a lot of different teams with differing strats (Dante, wesker, phoenix/Dante, Ammy, Tron/Storm/Task/Tron etc.) and decided I needed to settle on one and make that team as powerful as possible. Viper quite simply is the shit, I feel like I have control over the whole screen and if I land a hit or even get them in teh corner thats a character gone no questions. I’m glad her execution barrier is so high so a lot of her tech is really unknown and with catch so many sleeping.
I decided on Dante/Wesker since they are so strong by themselves, both assists help combos, jam session unblockables/zoning and wesker is a great anchor. Once I learned how to fluently seismo cancel it really made this team scary. Only thing I see being a problem is that it has no covering assist, but I think I can deal with it since each of the team is very self sufficient. I was thinking of replacing wesker and adding drones but I hate how sent plays in this one.
Sent would have an easy unblockable setup with viper lol. cr.M + Burning kick assist
I’m doing a viper video right now of all my findings. I was wondering what would you guys like to see in this video? Any specific combos/techniques ect.
i have a tron + viper assist unblockable setup if i get the opponent to block tron’s low A. pretty self explanatory but it requires viper to be alive and have tagged out after putting in some work. obviously it’s no bueno if tron came out after viper died =/
i am currently working on taskmaster unblockable with doom rocks (kinda hard to do) but viper unblockable with doom rocks is definitely possible. the chances are that the opponent won’t be grounded, but will go into a spinning knockdown (unlike amaterasu assist, the falling character doesn’t get forced to the ground with doom rocks). but it’s still comboable
if it wasn’t obvious by now, i run viper/tron/doom or viper/task/doom. i wish the characters had more colors
Taskmaster needs an actual black outfit so I don’t have to go pseudo all white with him. And Viper Tron Doom can go all red or all black!
@hades777 viper with wesker pistol assist has a very easy unblockable setup. do a ground string, call wesker, into tk light burn kick. once they pop, confirm into a combo.
Yea I agree about more colors lol I wish everyone had at leat 6-8. I feel like colors help to add some uniqueness to a person.
I have noticed that literally 90% of Viper players select her white/blue/black hair outfit… she is just to fucking sexy like that.
Yeah, everything you said there makes decent sense, Chrisis. The only thing I would refute is her ability to drop back to back instant overhead/low, wolverine does that better in my opinion, and the added cross up option makes it way dumber even without that.
Also, obviously she’s far more mobile and has zoning tools, so she’s obviously ridiculously powerful, don’t get me wrong.
I’m deadset on keeping dante on the squad since I’ve played him since the game came out and he is far and away my best character but I’m having issues picking a definite third. Its came down to…
Wesker: I like the unblockables and overall synergy he has with Dante, also is a competent point and anchor. The problem with this however is that I have no horizontal assist to force people to respect my range. I can cancel seismos like a fiend but I usually have to since its one of my only ways to force someone into a corner. The team works very well but I think its mostly a Viper/Dante show with wesker along for the ride.
Ammy: Gives me the horizontal assist I need, but is a rather mediocre anchor. Still better than something like tron though and the viper and dante damage should be enough for her to clean up honestly. Having two different unblockable setups could really fuck with an opponents mind to. Two lock down assists also helps. I feel this is more of a complete team and I can still get at least 900k off of my bnb.
Ironman: This is the one I’m most iffy about. I don’t really know much about this character but his beam is incredible. I’ve played some ironmans and he is not as bad as people make it out to be. This would be a pretty execution heavy team tho and that never bodes well for long tournaments.
Tron: Tron is Dante’s best assist imo. hands down. She is just so fucking free tho. I ran Dante/Ammy/Tron to counter BFF and it works well so perhaps I could use it the same way with viper.
I’m leaning about 65% towards Ammy since it seems to make the team more complete with Dante gaining some better left/right and Viper actually getting some cover.
Sidenote: what are the essential techniques and tricks for viper atm. I have her general gameplan and execution down but I just know its a shitload of little things she can do that I have no idea about.
What types of assists does Viper need. I know that she needs one for focus attack unblockables.
@Dacid:
Her high low back to backs with correct execution are more constant than Wolverine, his left right however with Berzerker slash and assist coverage is infinitely easier to do. Next time I see you I can show you some of it in training mode where I’d be able to hit the stuff correctly one out of five tries. >.< Her high low back to back is good and when done right completely negates advancing guard. Just hard to do. :-<
Im not a huge fan of Wesker being paired with Dante and Viper. I tried that out and it didn’t feel that great… plus Wesker is pretty herp derp lol. With that team you will have an amazing level 3 anchor for sure to bail you out of some matches… but I would prefer a tron or IM assist (which is the one I use). I think the left rights you can do with IM’s beam are much better than the unblockables with Wesker… plus they have to be standing still (which doesnt happen a lot in marvel) for the unblockable to connect.
I’ve always said that Viper needs a direct horizontal assist or a projectile assist to cover her approach followed by a lock down assist for mix ups, combo extenders, and focus setups. I always go with this sort of composition with Viper because both assist types covers and adds to her game play on top of extending her combos into the 1 million range. On top of this the character choices that fit the above criteria are capable characters with and without assist so even if you lose a single character your team doesn’t fall apart.
For example, I like to use MarlinPie’s team of Viper/Magneto/Amaterasu with Amaterasu being interchangeable with characters like Dr.Doom, Sentinel or Dante. Magento’s beam assist is incredibly fast allowing you to beat certain zoning characters and on top of that it causes a soft knockdown allowing you to approach your opponent after wards. It amplifies Viper’s Seismo zoning game by controlling the horizontal space in front of viper while seismos control the vertical space. It creates new approaches by making moves like Thunder Knuckle safe while creating new safe mix ups like TK BK feint into air dash down forward for ambiguous hi/low/left/right mix ups. It also allows you to do instant overheads cancelled into BK’s and continue the combo or make you safe if blocked. It also lets you get meterless relaunches to extend your combos.
While Magneto creates a way in, Amaterasu/Dante/Doom/Sentinel creates the opening to land that hit into death. Depending on who you are using they all control a lot of space whether vertically or horizontally and sometimes it’s best to swap the anchor out to deal with certain match ups. Personally, I like to swap out Amaterasu with Dante vs Trish just so I can control her aerial space though Amaterasu can also just chill with projectile counters and switch to hi counters when she’s dive kick happy. Anyways, there’s new mix ups you get with those assists and on top of that the majority of them can extend Viper’s combos even further.
I really like Viper/Mag/Lock Down composition because Viper has a lot of interesting TAC combos into Magneto and Vice Versa. All the lock down characters I listed can DHC glitch from Magneto so once you lose Viper you now have the DHC glitch available to you.
imo, viper could only survive without a forward-moving assist (mag disruptor, doom plasma, task arrows, iron man unibeam, etc.) if she has a defensive assist (tron, haggar) because technically they’ll keep the opponent from moving towards you, which is a somewhat passive but effective way of moving forward for yourself. i play both, but i feel that i like forward-moving assists more, especially task because the opponent is grounded for a combo opportunity. but the beams that knock down are also favorable for their own reasons.
i have kept doom using the rock assist for some time now, and he gives me a similar setup as amaterasu’s cold star assist off of OTG seismo – after the assist is done hitting, you can tk burn kick to go into super or do some reps of the infinite. or you can go for some type of throw reset setup because they’ll air-recover from the rocks. rocks are also pretty versatile – they can also help with forward-moving as well, if only slightly; hiding behind doom as he summons the rocks also provides protection to some degree. i don’t call it enough because i save it for viper’s combo… but i think i have a way to confirm whether he’s available or not and still finish my combo. i should call him more. in which case, i can save calling task until a combo starts for more damage.
edit: dante jam session does the same thing off of OTG seismo – the Chrisis way ^^
i get bodied by ammys. i still dont know how to approach her. tips?
Get really good with her seismos and she won’t be able to get in at all. Ammy’s Dash is horribly slow and has no real guessing factor to it. You never want to go into a head to head match-up with her. If you can keep her out with seismos or just make ammy a bit scared or helpless on their approach you can turn it into an offense. The moment Ammy does get in you can blow her up with an EX.seismo and combo because they will almost always attack trying to get a hit at that point.
Cold star is the only worry you have with Ammy. The straight version across the screen can’t be stopped by EX.TK
