Spiderman match/tourney experience discussion

Hi. I wanted to start a thread that we can use to talk about not super specific setups, but just general concepts of when we are playing matches - tournament nerves, emotions [lol?], what kind of movement works, etc. “match psychology” I guess you could say.

I am going to a tournament tomorrow with a team of Spiderman/Hawkeye/Doom, and interestingly enough, one of my friends said that today he went to the arcade [where the tourney will be] and had trouble against a Spiderman player that is supposedly from California. We’ll also see if he enters this tournament tomorrow!

General overall ideas about my Spiderman play - it’s not very dangerous, but people who don’t know the matchup or how to block Spidey will have trouble against it. Overall, super rushdown isn’t too effective if I am maneuvering away from danger spots like where Vergil/Dante/Spencer can layer up large normals with assists.

Will your matches be on youtube? Prefer watching spidey in tournament play rather than in combo videos.

arcade ufo usually has 2 machines for umvc3. one has a stream setup. i might be on twitch.tv, i might not. fubar sometimes cuts some vids to put on youtube. so the overall answer is, probably not, but slim chance.

Spidey/Hawkeye/DOOM seems to be one of the illest Spider-Man teams right now. I’m playing that team as well. Haven’t gotten any tourney experience with the team. I’ll hopefully change that within a week or so.

i got fifth. won my first 3 rounds, then lost to the guy who got first place, then in loser’s bracket lost to the guy who got 2nd place. not bad.

first round was pretty lame, i had to switch from spiderman to task/hawkeye/doom and ended up randoming my opponent out - he really would just shut me down otherwise.

Not bad for your first UMvC3 tourney. Did you get any vids to see what you could have changed?

the stream archive at twitch.tv/arcadeufo has half of the matches played at the tournament. i only had maybe 2-3 of my matches on there. i’ll look for them though, but it’s hard because of how twitch deals with searching for matches haha.

my first match starts at about 33:10. spidey gets shut down by zero. the cheap part of my team is successful !!

my second match is part 2, 1:38:00
-btw i was trying to learn spiderman combos in this tournament. LOL missed every one.

also there was a sick spiderman/skrull/sent player named thyallmighty. he has a few stream matches, but he lost to Jan [like i did lol] and AJ (friend of mine) on stream. on part 3 his match w/ gotnoskill is at 16:30ish, and I’m one of the commentators at like 19:10 lolol
oh yeah allmighty plays 2 matches in a row on stream, cool

you’re kind of gimping yourself by always going for super jump df web zips, especially when you had other options like ground webzip for instant over heads in the corner. you also could have web zip canceled air web balls to layer that shit. but doing them constantly, while good for whiff punishes and relatively safe pressure, is like using the most blockable tri jump in the game. grats on fifth place, just start mixing that shit up

Agreed, with more options comes more responsibility.
