[details=Spoiler]Best part was after Norman Osborn who was possessing Spidey pushed MJ off the bridge, Baby Benjy that was in her arms saved her life by busting out Organic Web Shooters!!! Yeah there were clues that he had those before!
Now both Mays are living together, wonder what will happen next? :looney: [/details]
Fun issue! Looking forward to the story continuing in Spider-Man Family! :woot:
Oh hey on the last page they reprint a cover that was never used from one of the times Spider-Girl was going to be canceled, but wasnât. That cover was colored by Studio Udon, whoa those guys are everywhere! :nunchuck:
Here is something that should spark a ton of debate here on SRK Comics forum. And before I continue I am the owner of that forum and I am not encouraging a forum war. I am simply asking for your opinion on a comic that is still talked about till this day.
Now I know some of you donât like long posts, but I was really interested in what Sano had to say about this. For those who donât feel like reading, Iâll post a basic summary of what Ace said in that thread.
Spiderman remembers everything pre Brand New Day. Acording to him the writer said so. My question is can anyone prove or disprove this?
He says that the comic still makes perfect sense. Because Spiderman pulling off his mask in front of the media still happened. Itâs just the people have a vague memory of it and donât remember what the face actually looked like.
This drives me crazy! I mean so what happened to the pictures? and more importantly what happened to the adventures where Wolverine had dinner over Peterâs house? And finally why did he join the New Avengers if he and Mary Jane never got together? Please help me!
Everything in his argument paints One More Day as a necessary evil. He said that the comic strayed too far from itâs roots and Spiderman needed to go back to his origin. This is the part that draws out my nerd rage the most. So does this mean Marvel hates seeing Spiderman develop more then he did in the 1960âs comic? And that weâll never see an original story like Civil War stick permanently to Spideyâs comic continuity? Or itâs the writer to blame and not Marvel Comics as a whole?
I dunno why people are still talking about this stuff.
Itâs just your garden variety selective amnesia with a sprinkle of history alteration.
Everything is business as you read it until OMD then the whammy happens and suddenly heâs not married and everyone is seeing his mug through blurred lenses.
If you can watch Benderâs Big Score and still be okay with Futurama afterwards you can handle OMD.
Mostly because itâs comics and us fans feel the need to always nit pick it. But if you really need a reason, then check out the newest issue of New Avengers.
Issue #51
Spoiler
He reveals his identity once again.
So yeah weâre going to talk about it, it hasnât happened ten years ago and Bendis did do a good thing with this latest issue. But personally I just wish they would of split the continuity and let Aunt May die.
I knew about the NA reveal, and OMD may not have been 10 years ago but it certainly wasnât 10 days ago either and every Spider-Man thread on CBR/NR seems to devolve into that discussion no matter what the topic is about.
Maybe Iâll talk about it in detail when I have more time, but with me I mainly focus on Spider-Girl, Spider-Man Family fun crossovers like X-Men / Spider-Man and things like that. I only bother with ASM nowadays whenever Anti-Venom shows up. Or if they have an interesting story, like Harryâs ressurection. Or if they stick Obama in, stuff like that⌠I tried BND but for me itâs a lot of rehashing of older stories, which I donât bother with and just go read⌠older stories.
If ASM was the only book based on Spidey or the only way I could enjoy the character, that would suck. But thereâs New Avengers, the cartoon, comic strip, Japanese TV show - :looney: - and back issues. So I donât really spend too much energy talking about OMD and BND because trust me I have like pages and pages of that stuff on other boards. But at the end of the day itâs like youâre just bothering whoever is enjoying BND. Shrug, to each his ownâŚ
New Avengers, Bendis dealt with the situation as best as he could. Wish it was a little earlier so the Spider-Man / Wolverine story in Spider-Man Extra #2 would of read better with Wolvie knowing his ID but what can you do. At least Spidey said he has to âProtect his familyâ so I can be in denile and tell myself that NA Spidey is still married because one relative does not make a family, (okay maybe it does lol but if you add MJ and her relatives that no one ever writes about now thatâs a family har har) though Iâm sure heâll be dating Ms. Marvel soon or something like that. DâOH! That Cwazy Mahvel⌠:clown:
We do not have all of the answers on how everything works yet. A little pointless to get into. Arguably, most of the debate is. StillâŚ
For a second, pretend OMD never happened.
Go back to the Avengers Initiative issue written by Slott, what number was it 7? Anyway, in that issue Spideyâs identity went back in the closet. He convinced the media that he was pretending to be Spider-Man and the Scarlet Spiders - MVP clones wearing the Spidey Robo suit could all imitate Peter Parker, which fooled the media.
If there was no OMD, you can bet this story or something like this would be what would get Spideyâs identity back in the closet.
Slott has said that this story is going to play an important part when they start revealing things.
So me, I think it is a mix of both things. Mephisto altering reality + Spidey fooling the media. Joephisto - LOL - would probably just have to nudge people to believe Spideyâs trick, to say fool the Avengers and so on. The Avengers can just remember the past as Peter Parker working with Spidey and pulling a fast one if they want. Oh and living with MJ and not married. Yes itâs still a mess but what can you do. RETCON GONE WRONG COPYRIGHT 2007 :clown:
In Slottâs own New Ways To Die, Spidey said when Norman didnât know who he was âEverything we set up is still in place.â He probably had some help establishing him fooling the media. Again, we still do not have all the answers.
Everything happened when you read it. If you read the books in order, thatâs how it happened. Then OMD came along and changed certain aspects of the past. Wolvie went to Peteâs house for dinner but his recollection of it now was Spidey and MJ were not married and Peter Parker was not Spidey. Um everyone has messed with Wolverineâs memory so just for that character you shouldnât be so up in arms about that. :looney:
Itâs interesting that if you read X-Men / Spider-Man or Venom Dark Origin that both deal with the past, well neither confirm or deny if Spidey is or isnât married. Though I suppose you can take Dark Origin as a retcon or just go with the Venomâs original origin plus Lethal Protector, it really doesnât matter because no one is going to reference either. People usually donât mention anything that happened over 4 years ago. Mainly because the belief is that the audience changes every 4 years, comics are like thatâŚ
Itâs his opinion? There are even people in the field who disagree and prefer a married Spider-Man. Peter David, Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz, DeMattais and David Michelinie to name a few. Their podcasts are up there on http://spidermancrawlspace.podomatic.com/ so just take out a few afternoons and listen to their reactions, donât take my word for it. And all of the regulars who do the podcasts hate BND too. If you disagree then you are in good company.
**TL;DR VERSION: Read Spider-Girl. For Spidey just pretend thatâs the âreal continuityâ and youâll be fine. Aunt May STILL DIED IN 400, HARRY IS STILL DEAD, SPIDEY STILL MARRIED, HOORAY! Hey now you can read it for free! **
Read some of ASM 590 in store, curiousity got the best of me and I wound up buying the issue, curse you Slott! Anyway a few things about his identity going in the bottle were revealed and it seems like we will learn more next week.
ASM 590
Spoiler
In present time, Spider-Man goes back to the Macroverse with FF. Human Torch wonders why he has no way to contact Spidey, thinking he should have his number or something. Anyway once they get to the Macroverse it seems that time works differently there and hundreds or more years have passed. They created statues of the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man from the time they helped him out several years ago. The statue of Spider-Man is without a mask but the years have worn out the face so they canât make out who it is. Human Torch gets pissed, saying he remembers having the adventure with a maskless Spider-Man but he canât recall who he is for some reason. Spider-Man says to let it go and Human Torch responds that now he knows Spider-Man did something to make them forget, but Spidey doesnât budge. It ends with Human Torch sending a small flame to the back of Spideyâs mask forcing to take it off in front of him.
Oh hey bang up review of the last issue of Spider-Girl. :lovin:
Oh yeah, posted this in the DC thread, but figure some Spidey Marriage fans might get a kick out of this. From DCâs Emerald City Comic Con Panel.
"Continuing with the questions about New Krypton, an attendee wondered if Superman?s new setting meant the possibility of a new love interest for the Man of Steel. Rucka responded, ?No, he?s married.? When the fan tried to explain further why a love interest might be an interesting possibility given Superman?s new set of circumstances, Rucka replied, ?He?s married. This is not Marvel.?
GO RUCKA GO!
Thereâs some info on Spidey in Marvelâs ECCC interview, mainly about Bendis having his identity revealed in New Avengers. Oh and they talk a bit about why thereâs no new DC / Rivalry crossover, Bendis wants to do JLA/Avengers with Meltzer, but DC doesnât want to. Arg guess we still gotta wait until JQ resigns (Levitz of DC said no Marvel crossovers until JQ leaves) before Spidey beats up on some DC charactersâŚ
Lastly, some info from the latest Spidey Summit. Looks like they may be planning to do a follow up to OMD. I sure hope all unexplained stuff gets resolved before 2010 yeashâŚ
So far itâs okay. Iâm not really digging that they are turning Spider-Man 2099 into a teenager so if that Spidey 2099 gets his own series then chances are I wonât mess with it.
Still itâs Brian Reed. He wrote the scenario for the Spider-Man Web of Shadows game and he was the only person to write a GOOD story with Jackpot in it during Secret Invasion. He writes Ms. Mavel too. Suffice it to say I tend to like his work whenever I come across it.
In the story heâs writing 616 Spider-Man and Wolverine traveling to this newer version of 2099. So right now Iâm just looking at it as another fun Spidey/Wolvie tale and not focusing too much on how the world of 2099 is being altered.
Artwork is kind of forgetable. Not bad but nothing special really.
The plot is more or less that events that happened in the past / current time are changing the world of 2099, which in the Marvel Universe is hard to swallow 'cuz⌠Things in the past tend to not effect Alternate Futures that eventually get designated into their own Earths, such as the world of 2099 has. Well I guess itâs still really early so itâs hard to see what Brian Reed is going to do with all of this. Time Travel hardly ever makes sense anyway⌠:looney:
Oh and so far you canât tell if Spider-Man is married or not in the book. Yes I am still in serious denial lol! Someone invades his memories and one of the scenes shown was him with Mary Jane, it was nice to see her with Peter Parker again.
Too early to call I suppose but so far itâs a fun book I guess. As a plus thereâs a Marvel Universe Bio for the original Spider-Man 2099 in the book, so that was a nice bonus.
I was at a book signing for Jim Butcher (writer of The Dresden Files book series) yesterday and I found out that he wrote a Spidey novel called âThe Darkest Hoursâ. Anyone read this/know anything about it?
Canât say Iâve read it, but Amazon has it for only 8 bucks! Iâll be sure to check it out. Iâm not much for reading prose books on comic book heroes since my book reading time usually goes to other things, but if itâs Jim Butcher writing Spidey then Iâll give it a shot.
Oh hey according to the review above, it has married Spidey in the HIZOUUUSE! BND canât retcon novels, yep yep! Oh and if you click on the cover image at Amazon, you can read like the first five pages - FOR FREE!
