Southwest Tournaments/Events Schedule and Organizer Discussion Thread (Updated 01/02)

Well I’m glad I’m not talking out of my ass then. At least some people are seeing unfairness I was talking about. We all need to ban together to help one another. Getting the word out to each region on these tourneys and have people come from out of town. We need to help promote one another and secure players to help the Texas scene grow. How can we do this? Jim and I spoke a bit about this a few months back, but we really need to get the tourney directors together, and have DIRECT communication to one another. And in order to do this, we should start a board of tourney directors. We’re not here to compete with one another on who is the best tourney director, we should be competing in what we love the most, playing Fighting Games.

For instance, we’re having a huge issue right now, we checked the screens over at our venue (20 screens at that!) and all of them have terrible lag. I mean horrendous lag, so we need some setups. pkrstdnt sent a text to Rotendo, and offered some setups, but at what cost? We don’t know. Would someone be willing to help us with setups and someone to help stream?

By helping us with setups, and the stream, we could have cross promotion, meaning they can advertise (with our help too) to promote their own event. And if they have an issue, we’d help whoever helped us at our own event. This can really help get the load off of one another, and give the new tourney directors (myself) more experience. And by helping new directors with experience, you could have more staff members to help your event.

If we could just have certain regions do certain jobs, then we would be good! We could ban together and help one another out.

Of course this might just sound like bologna to everyone else besides myself though.

Ok ihiryu something is really strange about what you have been saying. You say that you don’t mean to offend anyone but when you say things like:

how can you expect anyone to not be offended? This sounded like some “home cookin” and in fact it is----Upon further examination we looked up who you were and saw that you were in fact nmbr1krush’s teammate at the tournament they hosted (the awesome ABSOLUTE BATTLE!). Luckily, I do not hold Jon (nmbr1krush) or Tony in ANY way responsible for what YOU are saying. Jon and Tony are our friends and we do nothing but help support each other.

THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE IT OUT TO BE ONE. Maybe you are one of those people who just want to “stir the pot” I don’t know. Again, Tony and Jon are our friends and I don’t want anyone trying to drive an “imaginary wedge” between us because it is NOT like that.

Also your attitude of “I would rather not come to your tournaments because I haven’t been to one before and don’t know you” is really flawed. I hope no one has that same attitude about coming to YOUR tournament.

As for helping each other out–this is important!!! Jon, Tony, me and Jeff have all talked about flyering and announcing each other’s events at our own respective events. I even flyered for Absolute Battle at gatherings at my own house for goodness sakes! We would like to do this with OTHER TOURNAMENT ORGANIZERS AS WELL!!! If you are interested in this, please contact me.

I’ll tell you what. I’m going to give you a peace offering. Pkrstdnt and I will bring some set ups to your tournament since you are in trouble. Maybe you can wave our tourney entry fee and help us with some gas money. We will flyer for your tournament at BAR FIGHTS ROUND 2 and perhaps you will flyer for us at yours.

Also to anyone else who needs set ups: If you contact us we will do our best to help you out if you need it. I can’t romise that we can make it out to every tourney (wives, careers, etc.) but we will certainly try. Maybe you can float us some gas money if it is far and wave our entry fee. We will do our best!

All I want is peace and a thriving community like Cali with lots of events! Seriously let’s all be friends.

Point is, people will go to tournaments here or there, but will still go to ones that have a good track record. From what I’ve seen, Dallas has had a good track record so far with their tournaments along with Austin. For a lot of other areas, I would be curious as to whether to go or not depending on who else wants to go from other cities, the quality of the tournament organizer itself, and the venue itself with regards to distance and other factors. Honestly I’m slightly hesitant to go to the Killeen tournament if you’re trying to promote that just because of what’s going on here and the little things that I keep hearing about that’s pushing it back. It’s situations such as those that might scare people from heading out there.

I’m going to the Killeen tourney with setups in tow!

I’m Steve btw.

I was in fact Jon’s partner at AB. That is also the first time I met him. I joined up with him because I wanted to strengthen the bond between Dallas and Killeen. Also as you can see we failed miserably in it, but I had a really good time at his event. Mainly cause the hype from having some of the big names out there.

Well you’re right about my comment, I said that cause I was actually kinda mad but didn’t want to for it to come out wrong, which it did. So I apologize, I was completely wrong about saying that. In order to make up for that, I will assure that I can get a few guys to make it your next bar fights.

I would love to flyer your event, or anyone else’s event so long as the relationship is reciprocated!

That’s actually what I’d like to do, is for us to help each other’s regions, not only to help bring up attendance, but to make Texas a greater force against the other states!

I do apologize, but trust me there isn’t very much conspiracy going on between Jon and myself. I just saw how many dates were you guys were trying taking.

I would like to do more than just gas money and entry fees, is there anything else I can offer you guys? A place to rest your head? Maybe dinner? Especially since you guys are willing to go out of your way for us.

Again, I didn’t mean for it to get misconstrued like that, but I’d like to clear up any other issues you feel that needs to be addressed.

I am so glad you feel that way Steve. I really want to work it out too. Send us a flyer that we can print out for our Bar Fights or tell your guys to bring them along when they come. We can discuss how we run, promote, and plan tournaments when we meet - either here in Dallas or down in Killeen on the 29th.

sorry i thought this was the houston thread

Sweet, well I’m glad we got everything hashed out and no hard feelings. Yeah just hit me or Rodolfo/Rotendo up, and we’ll see what we can do for each other.

Can we reserve Feb 26 for A.R.K. (Arkansas Regional Knockouts) III?
I haven’t made a thread yet, but I’ll post on here when I do…

Hey man no hard feelings at all! Its all good. I’ll bet we become great friends!

Hell yeah, I’m finally gonna make it to an Arkansas tourney!

We’ll take good care of ya! Show y’all some Arkansas hospitality.

me and pkrstdnt def going to arkansas!

Damn, missed out yesterday to play some HDR…

There was no HDR that I knew of when I went to the venue later. Heck the players that would normally play it were there at the time.

Cool, I don’t feel so bad now.

Is the tournament 100% finalized and you just need to make the thread or you want the reserve because that’s when you are planning the tournament but the tournament is not 100% finalized yet? I ask because I write it differently if it’s a reserve as opposed to the official announcement.

Ummm from what I understand, we are 100% dead set on having it at that date. We don’t plan on writing the official thread for another week or so at least, though. But yeah the date is set in stone as of this point.

That Arkansas hospitality is so gdlk.
