Southtown Arcade - SF, CA - THE EXILES 2013.06.15, 12PM @ goforaloop Gallery

Will be sure to talk to them about it. I don’t think you need to worry. If anything, it’d be easier once this season is over to have another season with older games. Granted, that’s deep in September, but I feel if you want the ranbat Sunday, you’re looking at 3 tournaments already there during this season and it’d be easier once those tournaments have ended.

Anyway, looking forward to this Sunday! Hopefully we’ll have just as great a turnout as last time and great food too! How 'bout them hotdogs?!

EDIT: Just a note, there are a few changes to the tournament rules. Basics are simple: The pot has increased from 7 dollars from 5 dollars for KoF. The rules are defined more clearly so that that some of the basic questions are answered (I’ll be present the whole day so any other questions will still be answered). Timer has been lowered to 60 because it was discovered that there was a 1% life gain per 2 second increments. Timeouts are not fun, but neither is a beefy hp bar next round.

Other than that, be ready at 1 and we’ll get started promptly. Be sure to stop by the arcade, practice your combos! The reigning champ, Geo.YUC, was sighted Sunday learning Max Cancel combos so he’ll be even MORE versatile this week. Step it up and GET HYPE!

He was spotted learning how to waste meter? Sick, good for us.

THIS guy! LoLoLoLoL

I wouldn’t count him out. Some of the survivability of Geovanni is that he doesn’t use his meter to do a TON of damage in one blow. Like his Robert HD combo he’s made his BnB does a lot of damage, but not as much as if he tagged on a Neomax for the extra 300-400 damage. With all the meter he gets and how easily he’s been able to get combos in so far, I wouldn’t ignore him with meter. 50% combos he’s been doing could be 80-100%.

I’m not counting him out at all, I’m not sure when you’ve been watching him play but he uses meter almost every chance he gets. The reason he’s not getting a TON of damage in one blow is because he doesn’t know how to use it effectively and learning how to max cancel doesn’t help him do that. If he learned KOF 13 specific BNBs such as the Kula one he’d be a lot scarier than he is now at KOF.

So far we have three SoCal players confirmed for the next KOF Ranbat! Ash, Kane317, and 4leaf! We can expect Sans Culottes and lots of hop kicks from Chin.

so is AE gonna be at 5pm again this sunday?

I have not heard any changes in times so yes, Boba, it is at 5.

EDIT: And I stand corrected, AE is at 3 o’clock PM!

ooo ok, when did you hear that it was 3pm?

He heard it from me

Its in the rules, updated it awhile ago. We’re starting it at 3PM because the last ranbat took too long. Don’t want the folks who took BART to be here all night.

CVS2/3S/ST guys, we have not forgotten about you. Still working out the details with iPlayWinner regarding streaming etc. We will have news for you soon. Thanks! Its going to be crazy this Sunday!!

This is me. Thanks

So because of my workload with school, I wasn’t able to go to Southtown when it first got started, but I was excited to hear of a place with a Vampire Savior cabinet. Lately, my schedule has freed up, and I would like to go. But I’m told that the cabinet gets very little play, and that it’s not out in the main rotation anymore, which is pretty disheartening but understandable. So, I had the following idea:

For people who love this game and would be willing to play it (or even be willing to learn it), I think we should schedule some form of a weekly or biweekly gathering in order to pull the most number of players possible at a time. It doesn’t have to be a ranbat (yet, unless people really want it), but for now we should just focus on getting people playing.

What do people think?

YEAHS! I I say yes because I need practice but we are both GGPO junkies… Other ppl might not have that dedication. I have wanted to go to this arcade but I have little to no reason. My friends are casual mofo’s or slight weaboo’s, no HAMotherfucker’s to beast on this with.

I’m at Southtown every week and I’m down to play VS though I’m not very good. Southtown has a limited amount of cabs, but I think it would be sick if that scene grew there, especially now that a new Darkstalkers game has been announced.

GG to everyone who played 3s. Haven’t had good challenges in a LONG time.

In regards to getting interest in Vampire Savior (and Guilty Gear as well) getting more play @ Southtown, I thought that it would be good for Southtown to have a weekly or bi-weekly “old school” FG night, where people could gather to play the more obscure games that don’t get as much love. 3s and CvS2 could use more love at Southtown too, but anyways back to what I’m getting at.

I was thinking Thursdays are not a bad day, because a hardcore gamer’s schedule looks something like this in San Francisco:

Monday Nights: SFAE/MVC3 Gatherings @ Dragon Lounge, SF
Tues: Southtown is closed (right?)
Wed: SFAE/MVC3/MK9 ranbat @ Starbase
Thurs: ____
Friday: weekend shenanigans wherever
Sat: more weekend shenanigans?
Sunday: Southtown ranbats

Or maybe I’m just plugging thursday because I can actually come down and play on that day ;o

How do you guys feel about this?

What characters do you play? I play Morrigan primarily now after hopping through most of the cast and it isn’t pretty. Some characters require MUCH more skill to win with. I am open to giving people a general rundown of how characters should be played (But I am unhelpful on Hsien-Ko, Rikuo, Anakaris, and Demetri), frame data, teching mechanics, and I can recite tier placement on the spot. If ppl don’t wanna hear it from me I have a shit ton of website links and some knowledge of good Japanese players to watch on youtube.
this is in regards to being at an arcade, at all other times ppl should refer to the VS thread

I could stand to level up by a few thousand notches and I feel good about anything happening at all. I am very interested even if it is just a few ppl playing VS.

Welp, I am game when everyone else is (a little broke tho). Something like this will benefit from a facebook page (like the one Rotanibor made for his group) and we will probably have to talk to the owners to coerce them into giving us a dedicated VS Cabinet. If we are lucky, a flat fee might get us free play (and turbo 3 setting). I am open to doing a little organizing if wanted.
EDIT: Not trying to rush ppl, just thinking out loud.

Tenkai where are u?

I only play Victor in VS, and like I said I am not very good at the game but I would definitely be down to play and level up.

Old school fighting game night sounds sick, especially if there was a good turnout.

I live in Daly City. Appreciate your willingness to help organize. It’d be nice if we get more people in on this.

hrm… dunno if it’s just gonna happen like that… I can’t even think of too many norcal (or just general) cali players on GGPO who might be down. We already have four interested ppl, which isn’t a superbad start. I am betting that some people who would be interest haven’t really stumbled on this or didn’t give it enough thought. Some people might be at the arcade and won’t know how hype it is until they watch it. Some people might bring friends…

I dunno if numbers are as important as heart but we could start with asking norcal GGPO VSAV players if they would be interested. A thread directly addressing the potential for Bay Area meet-ups will possibly net more peoples than some postings in an arcade forum. Most people aren’t looking for a Vsav meetup when they open this thread.

LOL, I already know where u hang because we chatted on GGPO (I’m maddo23, the constant lurker who has been a heckler of sorts lately.). You took a while to respond so I had to ask.
