played this last night with a friend
sc2 is really overrated like it but i think aside from the soul gauge and some hitbox bugs 4 is one of the best games in the series along with 3
then i would give sc2 the nod
I had a lot of fun with the GC version, but I can’t see myself playing this instead of SC IV.
I wish Namco would make an HD 60fps version of SoulBlade. That, I would play.
2g is lame. it literally makes some step killing moves worthless. i seriously hope it’s removed from sc2hdo. it’s a glitch that’s NOT needed. and in SCV that’s the ONLY that terrible game did right, removing it.
I agree with all this accept for the step-G. That needs to go away like it did in SCV.
I really do think 3D games (especially Soul Calibur) need much more blockstun. It keeps games from feeling turn based and makes pressuring on block actually possible. I dont get why almost everything needs to punishable on block. Its my biggest issue with V. It also feels pretty stupid when a move has long startup and then is negative on block or only puts you at +1 or aomething. Its especially bad with the long range characters.
Actually, SC2 has a ton of useful moves that give large advantage on block - not to mention Soul Charge. Cervy has frame traps for a 13 frame launcher (i.e. bK was like, +6 or something).
I was spoiled heavily by this game’s frame data. It was my first competitive game, and after its console release, the industry’s casual-ization trends were in motion, and frame advantage on block started becoming one of the many sacrificial lambs to the FG blue-ocean strategy Gods. 3D fighters were always more driven by frame data than 2D fighters up until that point, though, so as a result, I found it hard to adjust to 2D fighters of that era (i.e. Third Strike, Guilty Gear), because I always felt every character should have at least a few moves that allowed big enough advantage on block to gamble with their most damaging combo starters - or at least something that yielded interesting status effects on Counter. I was so disappointed to find that 3D fighters were largely unique in that regard.
Actually, it seems some of the well loved 3D games are those with lots of safe moves. SCII is just one example, I believe the older DOAs such as 3.1 had this as well.
SCII is loved by the people who played it when it was popular and have fond memories of it from back then, or they like it because of a certain character, or because Link was in the game.
My concern is how many people are going to love the game enough to play it seriously again, especially with the amount of people waiting for USF4 to come out, and with newer games that are also out.
I’ve met plenty of people who say they loved SCII, but not enough to leave the house to play it. At least now the online will be good enough that they won’t need to.
One part of the article that confuses me, he talks about how after a +on hit low you can follow up with other strats and mixups, but isn’t that the point of lows anyway? I’m still learning SC and all but I don’t understand that argument.
Im not trying insult the author or anything, i just dont get that part.
It’s not just me though, I was talking to Rikuto (TFC DOA5U runner up and long time DOA and SC vet) and he said that he liked the frame advantage and the safe movement.
Yes, this was the ‘stern talking to’ that I got when I shared Hates’ article over at FSD
Some of the stuff I read in this thread really sickens me. The fact that OG players encouraging 2g/step guard in SCV (and don’t want it removed in SC2) is really annoying. No one wants to play an ultra defensive heavy 3d fighting game. Because, ultimately that DOES get boring to play and especially watch. I sure as fuck don’t.
Thank god in SC2, there’s ACTUAL guard break moves that allow u to get guaranteed damage.
I don’t want to just water down my playstyle and mixup to just 5 moves. What’s the point of having a full fleshed out move set if you’re not utilizing all your characters tools? This is one reason I hated SCV, because the movesets are too dull, repetitive, and boring. So tired of developers making fighting games to cater to scrubs and people who desire EASY MODE (come back mechanics). Why the fuck are you playing fighting games for?
Anyways, I pray to god step guard is fucking gone. I want my step killing moves to actually work. And I want to be rewarded with on point and consistent rush down and momentum, If you’re gonna space me (especially with a ranged character), you’d out to deserve it. AND NOT BECAUSE OF A SYSTEM MECHANICAL GLITCH THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIIIIIXED LONG BEFORE SCV! -__-
Step nerf was the best and ONLY good thing that happened to SCV. The rest of that game is trash.
Like I said, and I’ll say it again:
If step guard is gone from SC2 HDO, it’ll instantly become the greatest fighting game ever created.
Anyone who didn’t like the step nerf didn’t understand how lame and safe the game was before. movement is still good in SC5, really good. You just can’t be a sperg lord anymore. And the part about guard breaks being unnecessary shows a gross misunderstanding of how the game works and it’s played, the cast for the most part is still viable, I’d just say three characters aren’t and only one Viola is truly fucking stupid and needs work.
That sounds stupid. From what I can tell and seen, the game doesn’t look that defensively heavy at all. You don’t have to water down your moveset to 5 moves either.
I think there are a lot of players who like to focus on combo execution instead of mind games.
scv is pretty dull though its less messy than 4 but felt like half of a game lol
to be honest a lot of people think they know whats best for SC but I dont think its supposed to be tekken or virtua fighter. Im glad they’re making lost swords, they need to expand into a completely new fighting system.
when this game comes out you’ll realise how bland it is as well quite quickly and will encourage a massive growth spurt in the next games system (which will be made from data found in lost swords and sc2hd)
