I’m with you man, I’m not investing more money on these systems that are on their way out, especially as there’s no BC on PS4 and Xbone.
Taking the story out of SC wouldn’t make sense sales wise, it’s part of what makes the anime con going casuals play this game more over something like SF or Tekken. And let’s face it, they’ll pay 60 bucks for what they want out of the game too. Any one of us can show up to a random con and trounce some dope in a Mitsurugi costume with one hand behind your back, but at the end of the day they make up more sales than people on SRK do. Taking out casual content just isn’t the way to go anymore. Netherrealm understands this, Namco understands this, Capcom needs to learn this at some point.
That being said, even with all of SC2’s problems I’m still excited. The characters themselves all have a lot of really fun options to play with, despite 90% of it just straight up losing to proper Step G application.
I feel your pain. But that is why there is Assassin. I’ll be maining him, Kilik, Voldo, Raph and Spawn (if he gets in)’
It’s based off the PS2 version…no Spawn, no Link.
I hope this game shuts up “THE NEWEST SC DOESN’T PLAY LIKE SC2 RABBLERABBLERABBLE” crowd more than anything else.
You know that’s not gonna happen.
I’ve never played SC5.
so for the people who have played both SC5 and SC2,
which one is better?
Or better said, which one would you prefer to play online?
Yes, please. For the love of God.
SC2 is overrated.
It’s a fun game, don’t get me wrong… But it’s overrated. It’s sort of like those people that hold on to Champion Edition or Hyper Fighting or Tekken 5 DR or VF4EVO. They glorify the damn games like they’re things they’re not, but unwilling to admit.
I think SC2 has the best offline in terms of story and depth. But SC5’ s gameplay, online and creation was pretty majestic. Apart from the half-assed single player and unnecessary characters, I love SCi. But SC2 was great. Not the greatest, but great. I also preferred the music to that. Now where is Soul Blade?
Soul Blade was probably my favorite overall.
Every time they add a new feature to SC, I tend to hate it. SC5’s supers are stupid and GI needing meter is stupider. SC4’s armor shit was nonsense.
Soul Caliber was the best, yeah Cervantes was horseshit but the game had alot of strong characters and no truly dominant combat mechanic or exploit.
^ So it was boring?
Nah I’m just playing. SC2 is pretty high up there on my 3d fighter list. Especially when I actually took the time to learn how to play it properly.
I think overall the Soul Series was pretty damn amazing with the exceptions of SC4(BD) and Legends.
Not enough people played Soul Blade or Soul Calibur, everyone and there mother played SC2 which is why it is the SF2 of the Soul Series, SC3 had the most content in one game and possibly the most characters too if you count the bonus characters since most of them had their own weapon style which still to this day is the reason why I like SC3.
SC4 and Kratos Edition were pieces of shit imo compared to the previous games…words don’t describe the failed hack’n Slash on the Wii.
SC5 was alot better and it was going back to what we liked about the previous games but for one reason or another people either loved it or hated it, whether it was the Meter or not having a certain returning character, or even the state of the game after the last big patch…either way it is what it is.
What was wrong with SC4?
What is Kratos edition?
I hated the Soul Gauge System, Critical Finishes were stupid in both senses of the word as they looked dumb for most characters and it was a instant kill for someone blocking alittle too much…I believe the guard break in SC5 was a better balance for that. It didn’t help that characters I played were pretty bad off either…and I didn’t want to have a Pocket Amy like everyone else did.
Kratos Edition was Broken Destiny since he was a guest character in the PSP ver. still stupid as fuck.
Oh, yeah I suppose I didn’t play it enough to have noticed it that much. I’ve always been a casual SC player. I just liked it more than 3, I think because Voldo was back to his old self instead of that mess he was in SC3…
That, and Cassandra Oki mixups were fun.
The critical gauge wasn’t the problem with SC4. It’s the poor way Namco implemented it. You’d have stupid shit like characters being able to break your gauge in 4-5 blocks in one round safely/quickly AND have strong mixups/pressure so just ‘guard less’ wasn’t a answer either. Of course, it doesn’t matter, because it wasn’t the critical gauge that killed SC4, it was Hilde sneezing on you and getting a ring out on almost all stages from anywhere on the stage. I actually think the critical gauge was the right idea done wrong, not the other way around. SC5’s gauge is definitely superior since Namco actually took the time to figure out the numbers part of it (for the most part.)
SC1 is not as competitive of a game vs. SC2 in my opinion and had some stuff much, much worse then SC2’s step-G/2G (it also had 2G, btw, i don’t remember off the top of my head if it had Step-G. My gut reaction is that it didn’t.) Kilik MOTB, ledge bouncing and clashable backdashes are some of the most profoundly awful things I’ve seen in a SC game.
There’s not a lot of footage on SC1’s more esoteric glitches. I made a vid on Kilik MOTB though a long time ago since the internet was missing it (sad that guard impact is gone, that site was a gold mine of SC1 data):
SC1 WAS played competitively, you can find videos of Kayane/Floe/FetZ and others on youtube. It’s definitely interesting from a historical standpoint but SC2 just has way more to offer. I still don’t think by the end of it’s tournament life that everything was found. I wish there was an archive somewhere of every Tharon Mortis post ever made on this crazy Yun OS’s he was finding.
Aris made a tutorial video for new people getting in to SC2.
Aris going in the SCII System:
Completely missed Crow’s post.
Anyone have a link discussing weight classes and Advance/Retreat Guard? I forgot all about it in this game!
The term “overrated” in consideration of something so subjective is what’s overrated. An over-used term in gaming communities - a meaningless term that only serves to position its user as a puerile perpetrator of jejune nonsense typical for sites like Gamefaqs and Neogaf. Let’s not go there. Not liking something to the degree of a vocal sect does not make you cool, insightful or interesting…
