I’ve definitely improved since late last year. I’ve approach situations in a much smarter way, learn to identify what would be the best normal to use in any given situation, and block a lot more. I can tell that starting to participate in my local scene was a big contribution in helping me level up my game. Since I have a job and I’m getting paid, expect to see me at a lot more offline tournaments.
I still do cr.mp>drill because that’s all she generally needs as a punish.
And it’s an ender to most of your hitconfirms, as well as one of your best buffers.
cr. fierce spiral punishes most of what cr. strong spiral can do.
If only the order of rose went vanilla - > ae -> super instead, we’d be so better off. Fuck playing ‘rock paper scissors’ against akuma. Who else thinks that shit is stupid? Off of any hit confirm, he can tatsu into sweep for a free setup. Even off a techable knockdown, he can kind of wing a safe jump since rose’s ex spiral is slow anyways. And if he’s smart, he won’t throw stupid fireballs so you have no chance of building meter.
block; it’s rock - paper - scissors on wake up against most characters; and you will either have to take the safe palm or take the dive grab if you block; that’s where his 50/50 comes in. And we’re not the only character that has to deal with that, so plz just deal with it like every other character :/.
That’s pretty much the case with any character. Akuma is meant to be a heavy mix-up character that leaves you guessing. Sure some characters may have better wake-up options than Rose, but that doesn’t neglect the fact that they still have to guess.
If it was only 50 50 it wouldnt be so bad. But the fact that he can cross you up also (and don’t tell it’s easy to react to that shit) and the frame traps after all that? Shit’s fucked up. What’s worse is there’s no way to pressure him on wakeup. Teleport’s basically free everytime.

Sadly, in the last casuals I went to (old SF4 arcade ones… footage I posted in the vid thread), when I lost to my friend’s Honda, he did use one of his old generic win quotes…

It’s all about guessing; Rose can slightly walk forward and do a sweep; it’s risky to teleport if you’re specifically baiting it out.
It ends up being a 50/50; if they don’t do palm o/s sweep, you can backdash, if they do they do palm o/s sweep; you have to block; one continues pressure, one goes for sure damage.

Akuma isn’t her most diff. match up; it is very slightly in Akuma’s favor. Rose has better normals, can keep him out and does good enough damage to dent him fast.

Oh man, sorry if this is common knowledge, but have you guys ever tried the Gootecks Shimmy with Rose’s cr.mp->spiral after cr.lp,cr.lk? It works amazingly. I was watching a Japanese Rose player streaming and a lightbulb went off in my head once I saw him use it. I don’t know why I never thought of using it with Rose. After the cr.lk is usually where I do my tick throw, and when her true blockstrong ends, so it’ll beat out people mashing uppercut too.
I do cr. jab, cr. short, walk back and see if they crouch tech and do cr. forward.
I think cr. forward is one of Rose’s best normals imo.
Yeah, I thought about that too, but I never tried it out. The startup seemed a little too long to work as a counterhit as well as cr.mp does. It would get people stand blocking though if they’re still in range, I guess. I’ll try it out.

Well as one of my alts, I main Sakura but I am looking into Ibuki/Juri/Makoto/Rose, but I seem to be focusing on Makoto and Rose more.
I had 1100PP or so on ranked. I play Rose for a day or two and it goes down to 400. Play Vega again it goes upto 1200.
Now i know ranked doesn’t mean a great deal but it’s just annoying. I feel i play Rose a lot smarter, and am better with her than Vega. I try to do the correct thing but i just can’t win with her online
I get the same thing, I’ve been trying to find a viable alt for ages but I can’t seem to get anyone to stick. I think what it boils down to is you have to think a lot less about how to do stuff with your main (vega in your case) and you can relax so when you’re playing a character that you have the think harder about you’ll notice how you’re playing a lot more. The biggest problem I have is when I try a character I can’t get out of the habit of reacting with attacks that are good with rose. For example I tried Sakura but I kept trying to use cr.mp out of habit, it’s a comfort thing with me I think. I don’t mind losing but I hate not being able to react because I’m taking too long to link up with the character’s move set.
I used Makoto as an alt in super, back when she was rubbish (mainly when I was drinking and didn’t want to shame rose). I’ve ‘mained’ all of those characters while on the long road to rose. Ibuki is good as long as you can vortex, juri has always been a bit weird for me, she doesn’t seem to have a very definate playstyle (that’s probably a good thing though, an empty canvas really), Makoto is just really solid now but what made her fun for me was how gammy she was in super. Rose is a solid choice, definately.
I’ve tried sakura, guy, fei, rose, cody, ken, chun. none of them work as good as vega for me, or even well enough to get wins on a regular basis
