Soul Society: Rose General Discussion!

Was bored and wanted to throw this:

Make Rose better for AE 2k12:

  • 3 frame ST / Give her alpha counter from the alpha series for reversals
  • multiple hit SSpiral (mk/hk) with higher damage distribution (90/100/120 for example…EX doing 110 but invincibility)
  • less recovery on soul sparks
  • put U2 at 5 frame startup (at least it can be safe jumped) + put hitbox back like in super so that soul spark FADC U2 can be used
  • less startup / recovery on some of her normals (why most of her damaging combos have to all be 1 frame links / CH needed ?)
  • slightly less startup on U1

someone can dream no ?

@cerberusfx
What? And make Rose decent? But she’s so cheap already. She can slide, reflect, fireball, and that soul throw. So good.

But seriously, the only thing i can sorta see them doing is maybe making Ex Spiral a real reversal and adding invincibility into the first active frame? Lower startup for U2 maybe? I mean come on. You either add more startup OR take away invincibility. If you do both, that Ultra is so gimped.

oooh, he said I helped you out a bit! I was like no im not Maj from SonicHurricane. LOL.

Well I’ve lost my touch. I havn’t plyaed games in 2 weeks (school/work is kicking my ass) and i feel so reusty and just terribad.

Haha yeah he said he mixed you and him up (pretty easy to do honestly) since I’ve definitely mentioned Maj and Sonic Hurricane before (I love the footsie handbook). I may have mentioned your name before though from seeing you on the peaceful jay stream rockin’ Rose. Your Rose is obviously better than mine since I have a hard time beating his Sim. He saved the videos for me to check out, I’ll probably check them out this week. He liked your Rose though.

fuck sim. That guy’s a terrorist in my life.

jus want to say i went to my first offline tourney(xanadu) reppin that rose and the only rose there, went 3-2, ppl was sayin i would lose but i shut them up three matches in a row but i lost my last 2 to really good players. steve h(sagat) and then ryry(played sim). it was fun gonna polish up my offline play cause its the real deal.

Just went to UCI’s fight night. Placed 3rd and made top 4. Lost to DJ Divine’s Juri during Final top 4 matches. Have it recorded if you guys really want to watch him corner pressure me to death.

AndyOCR got first, DJ Divine got second. What made my night was when someone asked me if I was kara throwing.

I won’t lie, Juri’s WEIRD.

like, idk, her fireball is weird, she can change her jump arc weird, she has weird options, she’s just an awkward match up.

And weird awkward characters are rarely in Rose’s favor, so I feel ya.

Basically I think you just have to avoid the neutral game. I mean it’s weird because at neutral/full screen Rose always excels and generally fairs pretty well. But because Juri’s low fireball, you can’t really reflect it high to prevent AA’s so there’s nothing to deter him from just jumping/divekicking. Once he throws his fireball, if you’re not spaced perfectly, it’ll even catch your backdash, not to mention reflects or fireballs. So yea if he throws the fireball first don’t try to throw one back lol.

@Rose

I feel you. I have some massive issues with Juri. Mainly her crazzy spinning leg move. I know nothing about her, I don’t even know what that move is called, and I hate her so much I refuse to look it up. I was trying to find out how to punish it, and I can’t seem to see when the last hit connects on block and then when I can punish it, if at all. I keep thinking, this shit can’t be safe. o_o

You can punish all of her Wheels, just the light version is -4 on block, -8 mid, -11 heavy, -14 ex. Juri can lock u down in the corner but the most characters can do this… it’s not that bad for rose, in my opinion.

Got to play DJ Divine today in a 3v3 tourney. Team Divinity 2.0 was stacked. No wonder they placed at Revelations. Juri rose is in Juri’s favor now for sure. I’ll upload all my match videos plus the extra one later.

PS: At the tourney today, I OCV’d a team, beat a bison, then lost the rest(Jorge’s Ryu, LainySky’s Viper, and DJ Divine’s Juri). I knew i wasn’t going to beat the Juri though because I just played him recently and he beat me fray. I did a little better and tried to avoid the neutral game but I wasn’t winning much from mid range anymore either since cr. strong > spiral > cr. strong doesn’t work on Juri either if she times her normals.

Juri vs. Rose is 6-4 Juri? In Super, I never had trouble against Juri really, even against good ones. In AE, I would say it’s more 5-5. Great, we can take a look at those.

was playing air’s ryu the other day and nearly smashed my head into the wall. Got 3 hours of matches in, then he messeged me and said “I’m goign to play for real now” and wiped the floor with me <.<

Rose vs Random Bison. I was anchor and got really mad the second round when the ultra hit DESPITE me EX ST’ing out so I played like a big asshole round three lol.

Rose vs Jorge. Extremely solid ryu with amazing spacing. Everything he did was on point. All his fireballs were way to risky to reflect because they’d probably be punished with a jump in afterwards if I tried.

Rose vs Viper. Didn’t slide enough. Haven’t played against his Viper in awhile.

Rose vs Juri. This is the more recent matchup. Still mindfucked from the match below so I had no confidence against him.
My cr.stong > spiral > cr.strong got counter-hit. I can’t play full screen and can’t play mid screen. Have to re-evaluate this matchup.
And wtf man. Juri’s cr.forward makes Rose’s EX SPIRAL whiff. That. Shit. Is. Stupid.

Rose vs Juri. Made it into top 3 and was seeded against number 2 Juri. Not fun. Owned at neutral game and one combo pushed me into the corner. Forced to block frame traps all day and I tried to spam my way out. That worked out HORRIBLY.

Edit: Against Juri, if you do an early reflect so the active reflects at the later frames, you should be able to block in time. You DON’T have time to backdash though because his divekick will catch it.

vs Bison
Well played for the most part. Just I saw you go for throws moreso than frame traps, but that isn’t a problem if it’s working. I don’t like the ultra choice, but it’s okay.
Also block the 50/50 instead of trying to soul throw it (U2).

vs Jorge
Don’t jump out of corners. Just don’t, especially against Ryu :/. You lost mainly to bad jumps, bad guesses, and bad risks. :(. At the ranges he’s throwing fireballs, just focus forward dash grab. It’s where if he jumps, you can backdash on you see him just starting the jump or if he fireballs your forward dash and grab. :). This is where I see U1 just being a lot better. It stops random fireballs if you have 2 meters to provide the scarefactor and it provides a scarefactor for jumping or costs him a meter >.>

I’ll give you the BOTD with Viper :P. If you don’t play her everyday, you’ll forget stuff and then the more you play her, the better you against her, it’s like playing Marvel. You have to play her to always keep up, or else you’ll lose ;).

Against DJ Divine, you jumped a lot. I think that just lead to your demise. Keep it full screen and make her come to you. reflecting and gaining half a meter if you see it coming toward you is okay. I think you panicked a lot with the random mash of stand techs (sorry grabs like that just don’t come out of no where >.>).

I also saw a lot of 1f link execution problems :(. It doesn’t hurt to block after a safe spiral, I saw you go for plenty of jumps. You threw away matches because of endless jumping. I don’t know if that’s out of nervousness or you just thought that you were going to win with the jumps (getting to greedy, I do that sometimes too :]).

Otherwise, I like the playstyle. Where in California do you live?

Yea, I noticed it afterwards but during the match it’s hard not to jump. Some of those jumps were just me going auto-pilot at the wrong time (e.g. after a spiral) or trying to switch positions. When i was jumping against juri in the corner, i thought i’d be able to force a block with a crossup but her anti-air normals is so good(which i learned the hard way). In the corner, I tend to want to switch positions and lose my cool because I know if I don’t do it early, it’ll only get worse. If i give the opponent a chance to space himself, Rose doesn’t really have an answer anymore besides hitting a lucky cr. strong > ex fireball to gain space/ground.

Btw, don’t absorb against good juris. Divekicks punish it since light reflect has the most recovery out of the three. I’m not certain, but I noticed that if the reflect connects, all you can do is block. And if it whiffs, you have enough time to backdash to make the divekick punish whiff though you won’t have enought time to connect a cr. strong(though it’ll still force a block) and cr. jab punish won’t reach. Or maybe i just didn’t punish correctly.

Didn’t get a chance to use the setups against these guys because I’ve been meaning to level myself up by not depending(obsessing really) on it too much.

Socal.

I mean like where in SoCal, like I live closer to the Inland Empire where Pomona is rather than Irvine, OC, and and stuff.

But to get the dive kick, they’re going to have to be preemptive for your absorb and have to take the risk to jump, which means you can jump hp. which is a good air to air.

It’s always good to block though, which is why I didn’t understand the jump.

The jump lead to 50/50 mixups, and more damage than just blocking itself anyway :/.

I just checked the frame data app (always have it on you) and like lk dive is -2, mk dive is -3, hk dive is -4.

Yes, LP reflect has the most recovery. However, you can just wait for the fireball to disappear, moreover, and punish the pre-emptive jump that she’s might be going for (most likely, so you don’t gain anymeter) or yeah.

But jumping was really bad. Against all of them. IMO, the set-up is too situational and risky. I do agree that U2 should be used against Juri.

Here are my thoughts on your matches:

Bison:

-As Anton said, sometimes it’s best to block rather than go for EX ST after Bison’s U2. EX ST doesn’t have a lot of start-up invincibility, so it’s not really that reliable of a get out reversal.
-You did well with throwing.

Ryu:

-You jumped a lot while in the corner, and Jorge just AA’ed you for free damage.
-I see a lot of opportunities where you could have done s.mk; would have worked really well against his lows.

Viper:

-Burn Kicks can really be a hassle.
-Why did you do reversal super at 1:02?
-Got to watch out for EX Seismo in-between untrue blockstrings.

Juri:

-Again, you jumped a bit here while in the corner, and that gave him free damage.
-I saw a few opportunities where you could have used slide, or AA’ed him.

Here’s my last set of videos from the tourney yesterday. This was the first round where I OCV’d a team from ???UCI??. It was against an Akuma, Adon, then Fei. They were pretty good. We didn’t get a chance to warm up so there were a lot of dropped combos during the matches.
Akuma: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M4_-T8Gbg0
Adon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tdc48upAdY
