Advice I’m going to give from playing online pretty much for the majority of the day: Don’t play Ranked, period.
I ran into Yun players that went on a whatever they want frenzy, Abel players that did a ton of ticks into command grabs, and Zangief players that pressed random buttons and pushed me into the corner. It’s gotten me furious, and it just goes to show how much I’ve grown to hate this version of the game. Super had less nonsense than this. Anyway, I think I’m going to stick to Endless from now on.
i don’t know, i’ve faced a GREAT zangief, an excellent blanka and even a very interesting evil ryu. those first two hours of ranked in AE were actually a pleasant surprise. I did encounter loads of yuns and yangs but i guess they’ll just be flavors of the month characters for most of the community.
i then tried endless and found myself sandbagging new characters that didn’t even know how to do their specials. endless will be cool in one month i guess. now it’s just people experimenting.
I went to WNF today and played a lot of top players. What did that teach me? Rose. Is. Hard. Very, very hard. Everything she does requires such precise spacing with so little reward. Yun is definitely a 7-3 matchup. She has NOTHING she can do to Yun’s divekicks. I think I’ve tried every button. Stand jab? Stand strong? Stand fierce? Cr. Fierce? Cr. jab? The only one that works is a well space and well timed stand fierce. And only if they space it badly. They only thing that still works pretty well is her stupid throw mixup while you have U2 in the corner.
believe me, if sf4 rose-sagat was 4-6, ss4ae rose-yun is NOT a 3-7. the yun players you faced were most likely better players than you are, that’s all.
Depending on the spacing and angle of his dive kick, you can actually soul throw him out of it. Going to do some mad experimenting later today to see what I can do against it or it might just be better to block and read for the grab/command grab. Sucks if that’s the case but oh well, not like crying going to get me anywhere.
It would have to be pretty badly spaced to consistently ST but I remember with rufus you could either jab or strong (I don’t remember which one) if he did one dive kick after another and it would always beat him out, I never got enough experience against him to really bother working on it. The match up is still nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Blocking and waiting for the right moment is a very important skill in this match up. I can’t see the match being 7-3 though, his wake up game is so poor, if you can try and start more aggressively to get the first knock down then you can take the match as you want. Focus back dashing is also quite handy as well. All and all it’s really nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Is it just me or is Yang much easier? That match doesn’t seem anywhere near as bad for some reason.
yang can fadc into ultra, which makes wake-up pressure a little riskier. but besides that, his combos hurt less than yuns’ and his knock downs leave him further from you. so all in all the rose-yang match-up may be a 4.5-5.5 when rose-yun would be a 4-6.
If Rose vs. Sagat was 4-6 in Vanilla, why can’t Rose vs. Yun possibly be worse? Yun is different than Sagat, and has a lot of more rushdown tools, which is pretty much her nightmare. I don’t recall a character having a dive kick, an overhead, and a command grab all at once. Combine all those into one moveset with safe normals, and she’s in for a ride.
Yun doesn’t have Sagat’s whopping: Damage output 1100 Health Zoning Game Rose being downright awful in Vanilla
You guys have to take into account that Rose has tools to correctly space out Yun. Rose kills Yun FAST. You guys just need to make the correct guesses and blow him up on his fairly weak wake up game. Guessing correctly is a big part of any fighting game. I can see you guys yourself being inexperienced with the match up and still pressing a button stuff that’s looks unsafe, but is safe, such as EX Lunge Punch. Yun’s dive-kick is NOT good. Since it has a height restriction that’s higher than Rufus’s, you can st. hk and that’s +0 on block. There is a hurtbox outside of his hitbox, making it worse as a pressure move. vs Yun is not as hard as Rufus.
That’s my 2 cents.
**Ninja Edit: **If you’re having the inability to do a crouch fierce (which means if it doesn’t work, it’s whiffing on his dive kick) you then confirmed you have enough time that he’s high enough in the air to either soul throw, slide to the other side and punish, as well as that he did a dive kick from a range that’s putting him at a disadvantage on block once he reaches the floor.
@rose
I don’t know about the height restriction. I’ve seen him do it pretty low and stuff my cr. fierce tech. Secondly, the reward risk for the matchup is what makes me think it’s that bad, not the tools. Even if you do have moves that zone him out, it’s not consistent enough.
Rose risk for anti-airing: Eating a full combo if he stuffs your divekick for 200+ dmg plus positioning
Rose reward: 40-100 dmg MAX and no positional rewards. Might actually be worse off positionally since he’s closer now.
As a yun player, what’s keeping me from holding upforward and taking the risk b/c if he mistimes it, since i can easily change my divekick timing causing him to whiff/stuff his aa, it’s a easy 200+ dmg. Then i can laugh at Rose’s wakeup game.
PS: If i was a yun player, i’d take 3-4 anti-airs stupidly just to land in one combo. And itd STILL be worth it.
Getting hit with 4 anti airs = 400 damage, something Yun can’t afford.
Yun also has to be wary of his Dive Kick range because if he eats a Soul Throw, Rose has a positional advantage, an untechable knockdown.
Any range where he doesn’t get hit by crouch fierce, it’s a soul throw, which is a free 140 damage, a good 20% against someone who has 900 health :/.
I know Rose has moves that make his wake up uppercut whiff.
Yun also can’t afford to go crazy against Rose with U1, anything he does to get close is a danger. In high leveled play the risk/reward would make the match up much more close.
I’m not saying it’s in Rose’s favor, or anything of the sort. What I’m saying is you guys need to stop complaining and pick another character if you can’t handle a 6-4 match up, or put up with it and stop saying “oh Yun’s unbeatable” when he’s no where near that.
Echoing what Rose said. I don’t think Rose-Yun is that bad at all. 6-4 Yun at worst. His dive kick is not as good as it looks. It sucks because AE just dropped and most people don’t have experience with the matchup, but once the dust settles, everything will be fine. That and the fact that online lag makes his dive kicks much better. Also!
His dive kick is VERY MUCH punishable. U1 eats it alive and smartly crouch teching with cr.fierce does too. I’m sure the occasional desperate EX spiral stuffs it as well. If you can get to it before it gets to you, you’ll beat it out every time.
My real irk with Yun right now is that his uppercut goes SO FAR. I’ve been trying to bait it out with a crossup since I know it doesn’t autocorrect but I end up whiffing it and he ends up on the other end of the screen, unpunished.
Hi. Yeah I’m a new Rose player lol. Guess I couldn’t get enough Bison so I had to pick up his good half. Also I’m an Italian girl too so I always felt obligated to learn her. She’s 2 weeks old but I think I’m clicking with her. She did make that porkloafking quit against me… but he was just using DeeJay so I don’t understand why he cared… wasn’t his main… wasn’t my main lol. Maybe he had to go who knows online is so stupid sometimes. I’m not doing ranked either. There’s some really terrible players on that can get you into bad habits or even good players will do stupid things/lag tactics because they don’t want to lose their points. I’m still trying to shake off the mashing crouch tech habit I sorta developed because every so often you get someone who tries to tic throw you to death, or just jump in fierce to sweep all day.
I fought the twins with her tonight some good stuff I think?
Poor Yun got read. Guess Rose really is a psychic o_O

I did nice comeback on round 2… I am still using U2. Why is everyone ditching it so quickly? (I know the nerf…) I 2nd Juri so to me it’s now a feng shui engine (in a sense gives you momentum/control of match except unlike Juri you don’t have to take risks or fish for a hit confirm. And if they try to turtle you they will get punished.)
yang imo is a 5-5 matchup. I’ve been playing air’s for a while, and if you are really really good with your spacing (cr.hp, baiting u1, faking soul sparks etc…) you should have not much problem in that matchup. Also never ever cross up yang. You will eat a srk.
