Soul Calibur V

I would play a new Soul Calibur, though I’m starting to feel a little burnt on fgs. SCIII left a bad taste in my mouth since it removed content that didn’t need to be removed. I haven’t played IV, but however the customization was in that game needs to be improved. I want to be able to customize the character height along with the weight. I need a lot more clothing and equipment options. Also more hair options. For new characters, I’m unsure what new weapons they can put in. I heard the new girl from the last game was just Seung Mina that used a short sword on occasion.

I guess a flying guillotine could work. A lot of things to be improved and done properly to make this one of the best things ever.

What I find most amusing about the direction Soul Calibur took is that it sort of became a self parody. Originally from Soul Edge/Blade up until Soul Calibur II it had a kind of medieval fantasy charm to it. Now it’s been flanderized to the point where it comes off as goofy. I’ve damn near completely lost interest in the aesthetics, which I thought was charming as hell in the earlier games.

Ivy is a crazy example because, believe it or not, she’d actually look less slutty if she were just topless.

This is pretty much the main thing I dislike about the series past 2. It’s bearable but I miss the epic charm of the first 2. First time I saw screenshots of 3 I was like “eeww dark and gritty eeew.” 4 was much better in this regard but they added a lot of elements which made it hard to take seriously. Lol.

This is the kind of person that I would listen to when it came to making a new quality SC game. For realz.

Lol at how people act like SC1 never happened. Its almost like…people didn’t play it.

You do know that SC2 is the game that started this silliness right? Epic charm my ass.

And isn’t this thread kinda stupid? OP is asking about a game that hasn’t even been hinted at, or announced? What is this, I don’t even?

Sooo… you don’t like guest characters? I’m trying to figure out what specifically about the setting of SC2 you don’t like.

Was talking about the ridiculous bust sizes and dumb costumes, that started in SC2.

The women had normal bodies and the costumes looked great (even Ivy’s standard one, which I can’t stand in other games) in SC1. The stages and music were good in 2, I guess.

Fair enough.

But putting aside Ivy. Whom I’ve never really liked the character design anyway. (And yes she has gotten more ridiculous over the series lifetime.) I think SC2 has arguably some of the best designs in the series. Like to me, the design of SC2 Nightmare is the definitive Nightmare design. And evidently even Project Soul agrees with me since that’s the one on their logo.

I like the designs now as everyone looks as plays completely differentely. They’re so over the top it’s like Namco wanted Guilty Gear characters in 3D. I just love how idiosyncratic all the characters are. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

First people complain about characters being too much of clones of others. Then they change them to differentiate them more. And people complain about changing their character too much or how their character sucks because they can’t do the same shit they used to. Oh ho.

This series had something in the Blade/Calibur 1 days. I don’t know what really happened afterwards. Only thing SCIII did for me was Tira and she was garbage. Only thing SCIV did for me was make Tira’s style more interesting and laugh at how horrible they made the customization from SCIII. I also like how they refuse to actually bring back characters like Hwang and Li Long and think that Yun Seong is a decent replacement for Hwang.

Then the fact that just about all the mechanics introduced in SCI are basically damn near useless now. (I need to do a Just frame Guard Impact for GI to be of any use? Wha Namco?) 8 way run has been gimped pretty hard considering how big of a impact it was in the series. Usually you want to you know…keep that a big part of the gameplay.

Ivy…I just don’t know what they’re doing with that girl. She went from seductively sexy to just damn near skanktastic. It’s nice she still has 1 sexy outfit and 1 “classy” outfit but when her breast size is as big as 2 fuckin air balloons, it kinda cancels it out.

Now with the customization. It’s nice it was implemented and everything but It felt so downgraded compared to SCIII’s customization. Doesn’t help that they tried to use it ala RPG style equips. But maybe that’s just me. They downgraded a lot with SCIV due to trying to use online as the selling point. (Remember when SC had shittons of extra modes? Weapon Master as a nice side quest. Call me crazy but I enjoyed doing SCI’s extra survival.) I honestly don’t know what else they can do characterwise. The fact Hilde was the only new character (not countiner Agol,SW, and Anime characters.) Makes me think SCIV was rushed, Namco’s running out of ideas for new characters with said weps, or they were too busy trying to make online and SW characters sell the game.

I want something faster and more frame traps like SC1/2.

(Make Maxi good again!)

The window that the GI left you open was just toned down. They left it just large enough that launchers will still launch. Your basic GI game is still there. In SC4, you can’t re-gi throws without a JI. How that makes GI’s useless is beyond me. Free 50/50 throw mixup especially with command throw characters? FUCK THAT I WANT TO DO THE SAME OLD LAUNCHER/GI-BAIT SHIT I’VE ALWAYS DONE.

Step is just more precise. Or do you really want step-g back? Step and 8WR are as important as ever, but you have to know what directions to step in to beat certain moves. KINDA LIKE IN VF. OH NOES.

Even before the dev team went into chaos, Namco hinted IV was going to be the last in the series anyway (or did people forget this?).

2 and 4 are the silliest because of their marketing. They were overshadowed by the “OMG I can play as Link/Spawn/Yoda/Darth Vader” factor.

I think they kind of got everything they wanted to get out of the series. It’s about time they introduced something new instead of living off SC and Tekken as their only premiere fighting franchises.

That’s actually the thing I like least. Soul Edge/Blade, SC, and SCII have exaggerated medieval designs. SCIII and IV have exaggerated Soul Calibur designs. That’s the difference. Look at Siegfried in Soul Calibur and Siegfried in Soul Calibur IV. And he’s one of the men. Let’s not even go into the female designs.

The exact same effect is happening with the guest characters. Soul Calibur II had a fun little quirk that a few guests showed up as a nod to a few partnerships Namco had at the time. Cute. Now all of a sudden Namco treats it like a damn prerequisite and constantly tries to one up themselves with increasingly bizarre and out of place characters.

I agree Geo. SC needs either a reboot, or a completely new series.

This will help you envision the direction SCV will take

Whoa there, ice armor Sieg was and is fucking badass. Other than that error, I agree with everything else stated about the asthetics from SC to SCIV. Realistic female proportions FTW, there’s a huge difference between idealized characters (aka most games) and that HTK looking shit we got in SCIV.

Poor Sophie, she was once respectable. And this is after two kids, lol Namco.

All this complaining about character designs of SCIV is b*llshit. SC has a great character designs, and its female fighters are awesome. All of them, even I hate characters like Talim or Cassandra, they are well designed. SCIV is far better than other 3D fighting games that have high reputation when its characters and gameplay totally suck… Sad to read Namco is working on Tekken 7 and no word at all about SC V.

You got me there. But the only thing I changed is the mouth kinda, the rest was traced over an actual screenshot
I couldn’t trace the mouth because it looks awful in 3D. She had like no lips. At least no color for the lips.

I like my Juris psycho and my Ivys hot.

soul calibur is ass, noone in japan or korea even play that game anymore. everyone should just switch over to tekken.
