Soul Calibur IV - TGS 07 trailer

To hell with all that extra BS, focus on making an actual good fighting engine, with balanced characters, and lots of polish(i.e. no more retarded glitches or randomness), then I’m all aboard.

Do players even play games because there good anymore?

No. They just possibly might not refuse to play it maybe.

I’d love it if this went to arcades first, but obviously nobody would play it because people in this generation think online is the same shit. Kinda like how microwave is the same thing as baking.

Good question. Seems people buy them for gimmicks and un-needed extras, instead of “this game looks and plays great!”.

Just like how someone says “Wii-Mote controls!? AWSUM!” But that’s a topic for another thread (and day).

I wouldn’t be surprised if Namco skipped the arcade scene completely this time around. Instead of admitting they fucked up by releasing the console version first, they’ll probably just pass the buck to the arcade operators by saying they failed to generate enough revenue.

I’m assuming this game is going to be on PS3 (maybe 360), so the production budget is probably going to be in the seven-figure range. Having it released on console is the safest return on their investment. They’ll throw in a bunch of gimmicky single-player modes to justify the $60 price tag, since Average Joe can’t justify spending that kind of money on something that just has arcade, versus, and training mode. They don’t want to include online mode, since they’re too proud of their work to have it compromised by input delay and poor sportsmanship.

Now here’s the other thing that is beyond me: Why haven’t fighting game developers followed the Team Ninja/DOA lead and incorporated different versus modes into their games, such as tag battle, x-on-x team match play, and tournament mode? If you’re going to make us crawl from basement to basement to find people who are playing this at home, why not provide ways to get more people into the head-to-head experience?

Agreed!

When it comes to 3D fighters, I’d say not. So much work is put into the storylines, endings, and extra’s than that of a 2D fighter. The training modes have been altered and perfected so much that any given person could learn at a rapid rate.

Another Mediocre half made SC game from Namco, HOORAY FOR BOOBIES.

But I love boobs! And enjoyed SC3. Seriously, that game was beast. I can’t comprehend it being “mediocre”, jae. -P

Oh no… ringout again

I have the same policy with this game that I have with Tekken 6 and the VF series. Get online play or bust. I get flamed for saying such in a VF forum, but here, where others share my opinion, it’s unanimous: get DOA-like online play or give up…

Oh yes, and they DAMN WELL BETTER fix Kilik. They fucked him up HARD in SC3, from the crappier outfit (SC2 coat was pimp) to the replacing of awesome moves with less effective ones.

Oh, but keep that shoulder charge combo. That actually worked, unlike a lot of his “additions”.

They really should focus on making the game more playable before rushing it out the door. SC3 like SC2 before it had potential but was more dissapointing than a hot woman waiting for marriage.

Oh yeah, that too. I was alright with what SC2 had. Just go back to that, and build upon it.

-boost/dash cancelling for extended combos
-allow for in-air recoveries and ledge grabbing to cut back on cheesy ring-out wins

Hopefully Raphael won’t suck in this one.

A lot of character developments got screwed because of the way the storylines went I guess. Raph had that goofy looking mask that I thought was terrible. :7

This won’t be good at all I reckon. No arcade version first, no buy. I’m sorry, being a Beta tester(that had to pay $50) was bad enough one time. Also, I’d like to see online if it’s possible, just to have SOME competition when there is no time to go invade some random dudes house for competition. If it messes with execution, then so be it, those who find it to be a deal breaker don’t go online, simple as that.

Why do all you people want an arcade version? We all know that the arcade version will just have some game breaking glitch that every elitist will bitch about being removed in the console version.

If SC3 came out in arcades first, the arcadians would just be bitching that they can’t use VCs.

Post of the thread IMO. I think we all just got level’d.

SC4 is going to suck if it’s projected for a Fall 2007 release, as it will have the same problem the console versions of SC3 had – the fact that it had to be rushed out 3-6 months before the game was finished.

Considering the history of Soul Calibur when it comes to both hardcore and mainstream, I’m doubting that Namco has high-level SC gameplay as its main priority. I think that Namco is gearing SC mainly to the mainstream crowd. With that in mind, online play is almost manditory IMO.

Both of these ideas would be awesome if implemented into SC. But I think there should be a limit to how often you can air recover. And take out air control.

I agree. 3rd time’s a charm.
