Bad experiences, like tripping, thats why.
Am i seeing things, or does Tira not lose hp in Gloomy stance anymore? That’s a step up from last game, that’s for certain. I’m not sure i like being forced into Gloomy at 30 percent though, that sounds like the opposite of random, which isn’t good either.
Technically it makes sense, since if she’s getting beat up her survival instincts should set in.
Difficult to say what I actually think about it before playing the game, though.
I think they just said she swaps stances, not necessarily goes to gloomy. Seems kind of odd, but Tira is an odd character.
No, you mean ‘person’, not people; and it’s not even like he’s raging and not giving reasons. No need to overreact.
Of course you do. Alot of people noticed clean hit actually (I definitely did), what they didn’t know was that the damage was random; and even if people don’t notice it, that’s no reason.
Elements of a fighting game you have absolutely no control over are never a good idea, especially since fighting games are all about control. People shouldn’t ‘randomly’ gain advantages they didn’t work for; or people might be upset that they like the idea of clean hits in the game but can’t manually use it.
I do and don’t want 3’s story mode back. i liked its length. not much else.
I adored tira in 4 and felt like she looked cool in 3 but i wasn’t feeling her.
the gloomy force is fine, it was extremely rare that you wanted to be in jolly, you just learned to deal with it (i did at least).
Clean hits dealing random damage will probably go largely unnoticed when actually playing the game. Besides, it can’t get any more random than Marvel, that’s for sure.
EDIT: Man, I looooooove the character select theme.
No, I meant people. If it was just a person, I wouldn’t have acknowledged it. Some people are upset about it being random and not so much what it will do in actual match, especially when mechanics like this have been in fighting games for a long time. If random is never a good idea, then why have they been around for so long and in games like Super Turbo? Plus clean hit is not on the level of random tripping, so I am okay with it.
For the people asking about Tira, I believe she can control her stance/mood by performing a brave edge and that she loses a sliver of life on certain moves, but not as much as in SC4. I’m still waiting for the final game to know for sure since things could change.
That character select screen is the best one that I have heard in a SC game. I can’t wait to get the soundtrack for this game.
Namco put up two videos from their hands-on event

God Viola looks so VICIOUS in that vid. Can’t wait til this game drops!
So judging from that Leixia/ZWEI vid, I’m guessing critical edges aren’t fully invincible? I remember seeing a vid of RTD’s Hilde vs Ramon’s Pyrrha where Hilde’s CE clashed with one of Pyrrha’s regular attacks so I’m pretty certain on it.
I believe they were are one point and they removed it.
SCV in the MLG circuit maybe?
Anyone know if voices can be individually selected between JP and ENG?
This will be my 1st serious soul calibur, im liking tira so far in these vids. can she really do half life with only two brave edge??
I only see 1 person in this thread complaining, and it’s a very minor complaint at that. Also, so what if there was random damage in Super Turbo? Doesn’t mean people liked it or thought it was a good idea. Also, being incredibly vague by saying they’ve ‘been around for so long’ does not help either; because this arguement relies 100% on examples, so if you can’t give me examples and proof, I can’t counter and explain it; it’s just an easy (phantom) way to make it seem like numbers prove your point. Either way, it still doesn’t change the fact that it isn’t a good idea; plus, there have been many bad ideas throughout all the fighting games we love and enjoy…if a fighting game like Super Turbo has an imperfection, it could very well be random damage.
Either way, my point is that it wouldn’t hurt to be objective. At least give a reason as to why you like it. Fanboyism doesn’t help or prove you care for a game, being real does.
stands up
Hi! im Ki Shima, I like random damage because it wakes up the sleeping brain you have to develop to be a top player. I’d rather my brain learning a tight skill and that skill floating inside a realistic domain showing the ability to record, dismantle and rebuild instead of just turning into a brain calcified button warrior
:wonder:
what exactly does a clean hit mean?
I don’t mind clean hits. Like Tekken, it just means a little additional damage if you hit said move at the “tip-range” (for a lack of better term).
What is lolworthy is one person coming to defend the game blindly if anyone does question any mechanic regarding anything. We’re not obliged to like everything - or to accept any mechanic without using critical thinking.
That’s dangerous thinking. Stop having your own thoughts, you.
Normally, it’s when you hit an optimal part of an enemey’s hitbox with a move which has clean-hit properties (I.e. Paul’s death fist; Sol’s Sidewinder). With Sol you have to hit a character deep enough in the mid-section of their hitbox; I’m not 100% sure on Paul’s since I’m not too adept at Tekken, but I believe it’s similar.
Clean Hit in SC5 means nothing but a random damage increase; it’s not much of a big deal since I didn’t notice it to be too significant. It’s just the idealogy behind it seems odd. I prefer random elements spurred from depth; where, they’re not really random, but appear so to the untrained eye. It’s nice when you can break something wierd or peculiar down and give it an explanation.
Tbh I don’t even see casuals liking it;
“Wth, why did that kill me?”
“Random damage brah”
“=/”
