Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

Everything from SC2 is the best.

If this game is good, I’m calling it Soul Calibur 3.

Rafael was the definition of sex in Soul Calibur 2

Soul calibur IV played the twilight card really on him and he’s never been the same, Although I did like his playstyle to an extend but nothing can beat Yoshimitsu’s crazy mix up. I can feel for the Ivy players though, she is a hard character to use effectively but the pay out is nice, I dont think there is another character that is so hard to defend against, apart from maybe Voldo. Changing her assets with every game must be frustrating to keep up with.

I remember Soul Calibur as the most fun fighting game ever, that applies to SC 2 , 3 and 4, However I have never played these games with an arcade stick and I’m not well adversed in the Soul scene because I played this game mostly with Friends and training mode monstering, It’s hard to find competion online in this game because it is technically really difficult and you usually just get ABC spammers who I just sword jump to death with Yoshi.

Now I made myself nostalgic, I might just look into SCV.

 You can parry and dodge that move…or just wack him if you’re playing a character with reach.

IIRC Soul Calibur 3 had the better Ralph. 4 was a mixture of both, step was very weak in that game which was his problem in 2 so naturally he was good to say the least.

Supposedly Ivy is still a solid charracter but having no more stances is probably the most epic nerf she’s gotten since Soul Calibur 1. Apart from 9A+B mixups what else does she have now? Not to mention they made her summon suffering an EX move. I said goodbye to Ivy after Calibur 3 so theres no hut feelings here.

I am however a Zasalamel player. Seeing as he is 1- immortal and 2- immortal, if he doesnt find his way back into the series I guess I’ll just settle on Voldo who was always my seconday. That new transition into Mantis looks sick.

I thought Malek was saying that Ivy was pretty broken even without the stances due to how retarded safe some of her stuff is.

EDIT:
Leixia impressions from Kayane.

Well he isnt really immortal, He is reborn everytime he dies, its close but i dont think thats immortality.

I wouldnt be surprised if he came back as a new character.

If there is a new character with his weapon and his left eye out of view, you already know who it is.[/

Hmm? Didn’t she only lose the coiled stance? As far as I know, she still has the sword and whip stances.

Ok let me break down the new characters to remove this common misconception that most of the new characters are just younger clones. FIrst off, characters are not clones if they play differently. Unless you consider Ken and Ryu clones.

The new characters are:
Patroklos - completely new style, sharing only 1 or 2 moves from the SC sisters. His range is very short and he is a tad slow, very strange. He does have a strong mixup game when he gets in close and a safe tracking mid.

Pyrrha - is indeed a clone of Sophitia as we’ve seen her so far. It appears she will play very similarly to Sophie, except she won’t have her ridiculous TAS B (safe, high damage mid, fast enough to punish, combo’d into itself for half health if you hit on the tip of the sword)

Natsu - At first glance she seems the same as Taki, but the changes to the way she enters her possession stance and the ease of going into hover and canceling as well as the removal of PO sidestep and the addition of a low from PO (from older games) will make her PO game very different from before. I can’t say for certain how she’d play… her moves are certainly different but she may play similarly to Taki. Taki players playing Natsu in demos doesn’t really help either since they’re stuck on finding their old character’s tools and just using them. She’s sorta a clone if she ends up playing similarly.

ZWEI - new concept

Viola - she is almost certainly Amy but with a completely new movelist

Leixia - I thought for sure if there was going to be true clone, it’d be Leixia. But actually, Leixia’s character type has changed completely from Xianghua. Instead of being very fast with low-mid range, with lots of good lows and evasive moves, Leixia is slower and has longer range. Apparently, her move list also focuses on Guard Breaks and feints. The slower speed, longer range, and focus on Guard Breaks will probably make her play very differently from Xianghua. In recent videos, Kayane played Leixia like Xianghua since that’s all she knows how to play. She only really used tools that Xianghua had, except some things like 3A (a move that doesn’t belong in the game… invisible tracking mid-long range low with a threatening followup) were removed so it ended up looking like a watered down Xianghua.

I feel like once we get the game, mains of characters that have been replaced will move to their clones, ignore the new tools, and play a watered down version of their old character. I already see it in the French players. But later on they’ll get bored and adjust for the new changes they missed out on and never call the new character a clone. Except Pyrrha.

I know they are not clones in the strict sense of the word. I was talking about more along the lines of concept. SC has always had “weapon clones” when they could be introducing completely new weapon types.I know that they have a few different moves, some of their moves have different properties, etc, but like I said, I don’t care about that. It doesn’t matter that Natsu has a different way of entering PO, or lacks a move that Taki had, or w/e; in the end, she is dual blade wielding ninja just like Taki, with a lot of the same moves. So instead of introducing a “new” character like that, why not make it an actual NEW character. SC has always suffered from these types of “clones”:

Rock/Astorath - 2 big, slow, axe wielding guys.

Kilik/Seung Mina - 2 long range poker types

Sophitia/Cassandra/Lizardman - small sword and shield characters seem to be the Shotos of SC. I will give Lizardman credit though while as a concept he is kind of clone-y he plays pretty different.

Rapheal/Amy - the first time I saw Amy I hated her cause it was just another fencer typye.

I also hate all the Smash clones, even though their moves have different properties, it’s still boring character design. I don’t care that Gannondorf’s punch is slower/does more damage. I would rather have a COMPLETELY new character.

And for the record yes I do hate Ryu and Ken, when talking in this regard. Hell, I even hate Dan, Sean, and Akuma too even though they all “play” differently. Concepts clones are just bad IMO.

I don’t understand why people say they are different. They all have the exact same moves (outside of Supers/Hypers/whatever the fuck) and therefore the same goddamned characters. End of story.

As long as one thing is different, even the smallest thing, they’re different bro.

Duck King second colour in KoF11 was kinda glitchy and actually changed the properties of some of his moves iirc. For that reason he was placed higher in the tier lists than default Duck.

A difference, no matter how miniscule can change a character completely in a fighter. I’m no Ryu or Ken (Ruy and Ken?) fanboy but to say they’re the exact same character is kinda ignorant. And you know how hard it is for me to say that 'cuz I love you.

Having similar moves and the same moves are two different things. I dont see how peeps who take these games seriously can still believe that Ryu and Ken are clones…ever actually try playing the character? Hell as far as those to go…they’ve evolved alot from what they used to be…further seperating their similarities.

That’s why I said “concept” clones. Yes, their moves have different properties. But at the end of the day, they both have a fireball, a DP, a tatsumaki and they both wear a gi.

EDIT: Over’d.
Nothing really that interesting really. Astaroth seems slightly nerfed, Maxi’s a lot faster, and that’s it.

All shotos look a like

I’m betting that Kilik will be replaced by his son, or apprentice or something. I mean if Lexia is the daughter/replacement for X. Why not Kilik? We already have a set of bro/sis why not another lol?

Just glad that Mitsu is still around I may not be playing him as my main but the guy’s awesome for sticking it all these years still wanting to be the best; same with Sieg.

You remind me of the “Why isn’t Ken in MvC3 fan-rguement”

I did a rundown of the main points that were mentioned on the stream. Also includes an archive link for those who missed it.

I would say nerf and buff at the same time. Her damage output got nerfed, but she is easier to use now so less input mistakes.
I guess she will end up being mid tier, but that’s fine by me. Ivy forever. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes a lot of her moves seem to be really safe at the moment, but they will change it.

The archive has renewed my interest in ZWEI

Lexia is :3
