"But after getting hands-on time with Soulcalibur V, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was time for me to step back in and give this franchise another look.** It felt fluid and fun**, and I’m looking forward to seeing the final product when it drops sometime in 2012.
What I enjoyed most, though, was a new feature called the Critical Edge. The Critical Edge is a new gauge that fills up as your character deals damage. Eventually, it allows your character to perform a special attack with the same, fairly simple move-set that transcends any character on the roster. While these attacks aren’t as over-the-top as special moves are in games like Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, that’s part of their charm. They don’t (usually) stop the action outright or create a match that’s unbalanced. Rather, they are executed seamlessly into the action, providing a far smoother and more fluid experience."
these are speeches for like when a character does an attack, gets attacked, etc. Tira’s gloomy voice:“stupid lizard.” “genocide!” And my favorite: “hurry up, and die!”
The clothes are gorgeous soul calibur has got to be one of the best looking (visually) fighters available even soul blade was gorgeous for the the time.
Three years ago I got the opportunity to play Soul Edge in arcade at a hotel. I felt so damn lucky because I’ve only seen two of these machines. Also, did anyone else play the shit out of Soul Calibur 2 in arcade? Spent an entire summer up at a mall leveling up my conquest Nightmare. It was so much fun taking down other armies.
SC4 is still one of the best looking fighters out there. I was disappointed that more wasn’t done with the game to show off that aspect because of how much the game’s stages were centered on TOLS. And so far what they’re doing with SC5 looks amazing. Plus we’re still a long ways away from the game being finished.
I never got the chance to play conquest mode in SC2. I did play the mode that was in SC3:AE and that was fun. Conquest mode was also something that people were requesting to add in SC5 when Namco was asking for feedback, so I hope that they do add something like that to the game.
Shameless plug: Summer Jam 5 is going down this weekend in my hometown of Philly with all kinds of legends coming through to compete. I should also be doing commentary and talking about SC5, so if you don’t have plans on the weekend or get bored of SF, tune in on Saturday at 8wayrun.com/stream
Double shameless plug: I added Kayane’s summary of Gamescom to SC’s Facebook page. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.
I’ve been playing sc3 now again, none of the characters are easy to use because of their awesome moveset and always me wanting to use the flashier one’s. The only character I really like is Sophitia so I hope she’s in all games, and chronicle mode
It was a ton of fun, especially since there were new people coming in and making characters every week.I was a few ranks away from becoming an Edge Master, but sadly the machine was bought by another arcade and shipped to Ohio I’d probably buy a SC2 machine if I could track one down. I’ll be in your stream this weekend.
