yeah, and its sad because the netcode is soo good.
the issue seems to lie in the sales of the game.

i thought the people who didn’t buy it were skipping it because it lacked single player modes. if thats true, then they weren’t going to be playing it online anyway.
Whoa what? I’m playing a top-tier for once!? Maybe I’ll get into this game after all!
I’m usually strong at SC, though, even if it’s not a series that I’m a HUGE fan of. Like I said, SCV is fun but I think it could have been a lot better. I get one of those “this game needs an Super/Ultimate rehash” vibe from it: a lot of potential, but could use a little more polish.
Majority of people are now flocking to the global colliseum. Though there are far less lobbies than there were previously, I’m guessing that is the reason why. Also, I think more people brought this game for the PS3.
I hope SCV doesn’t get a ultimate version, all they need is DLC content no new disc buying like Umvc3. They should add a weapon master mode for single player and Zas, Talim, Yun seong, and Rock. I wish they can add Necrid again. I loved his summoning weapons in all kinds of shapes he could change those orbs into.
I haven’t had any trouble finding games online, yet. I do notice, though, that every so often I have to back out to the 360 dashboard and restart the game so that I stop getting network errors, which also makes it difficult to find player matches.
I’m on PS3 and have been able to find a match in whatever mode I search. the online modes and netcode is amazing
I’m only playing now in global colliseum: LA, NY, Chicago, etc. are the only ones with players :S (also France, UK and Tokio but zero players in latinamerica), i have a lot of troubles trying to play ranked because is full of rage quitters and it takes forever to find a match, fortunately i have a local scene a some friends to play the game, i’m playing now with Ezio and Nightmare, my old main was always Maxi but he is now boring as fuck to play same with Ivy.
You are right.
Soul calibur IV sold 2 million units in a week…(thanks to the star wars nerds in some way), this is a huge difference :S
SCV is a good game but Namco used all the resources in the competitive aspects for players like us when Namco always had great content in their games for fans, some competitive players and new players from other genres, i wouldn’t say “casuals” because is a misleading term.
I believe some in 8WR are using the term “casualcore.”
Is that anything like Deathcore or Metalcore
He could use some buttons up close. Astaroth is decent and all, but he gets eaten alive when people like Leixia, Cervy, and the Alexandras get past his zoning and in his face. Especially if they have a fast damaging whiff punisher like Pat’s 66B. It also hurts that moves like 6K and 6A are either unsafe or can be tech crouched. Or at least that’s what I’ve seen from my friends who use him.
I still say
once people learn to just guard more consistenly.
you are going to see astaroth fall a little.
the thing that helps complete a astaroths game is the fact that you have to block his shit most of the time.
bullrush is frightening because when you block it he so positve on block it leads to mix up city.
his long range stuff is frightful because of the damage and the huge amount of guard break it brings.
he can dictate the tempo pretty well when you are forced to block and get grabs and counterhit knees, but we havent seen something as potent as just guard in SC.
yeah guard impact was nice but this is so much more effective.
you are esssentially phasing through his attacks to advance to him much quicker then he normally likes to adjust for
I definitely agree. Just guard really helps some characters like Patroklos(using him as an example since my primary training buddy mains him) get huge damage off of situations that would normally be from whiff punishing. Consistent just guarding adds another dimension to the game and what moves/strings you have to choose when going on the offensive.
About the same for Ps3. Not that much online action. Rank takes a long time to play.
SCV has better online than SCIV but SCIV had more player online. Game is good but the casual play it for a week and they are done with it.
Astaroth isn’t too scary. I did get knocked out first round by one last tournament but I know all the mistakes I made and he ended up top 4 anyway. Honestly once you are past his optimal axe range it’s really only grabs you should be worrying about. He has no fast and safe moves to use when you are on him so as long as you apply pressure and stay safe, Astaroth will be very sad. I think he is pretty strong in this game, but not top, knee is great for sure, but very punishable. Just don’t use slow moves next to him and knee won’t be a problem. Bullrush is also great and all, but chances are you will counterhit him out of it if he thinks he can get away with it at close range.
I think that especially once JG becomes a little more common, Astaroth is going to really rely on his zoning abilities. If you get in on him at frame advantage, make sure to do as much damage as possible because there isn’t too much he can do to you there.
Oh also, don’t get cornered, his damage shoots up anytime he can wallsplat you, probably more than other characters. Also, don’t underestimate his ring out game, it’s pretty brutal.
Another thing is there isn’t that many hardcore players in this game just yet.
I say they should have combined the game to have some decent mode and some more fanservice to satisfy most of all areas.
And if you’re only playing single player, you’re probably not looking at a week’s worth of content either. I love this game, but they really should have had more content, especially with the series’ reputation. I always thought that was one of the things that people didn’t like about IV, and IV has like twice the single player content that this game does. I could spend a month in CaS though; I wish I had unlimited slots.
Why exactly is Dampierre supposed to be so bad? I’ve been playing him quite a bit lately and I probably enjoy playing him more than anybody else. It helps that people don’t like to block the Poker Bluff kick. I kicked a guy halfway across the stage before he finally just rolled away from me.
Well there’s always DLC in add in more modes, at least that’s what I hope. For me, I wouldn’t mind if they released extra episodes for the Story Mode. I know fighting games usually have subpar stories, save for very few exceptions, but SCV’s was just sad, especially given how in-depth the SC universe is.
Aside from the fact that not everyone got an ending, I actually liked 5’s story better than 4’s. I have no idea what happened in 4, and I’m still not sure what Algol’s backstory is exactly. At least I know what happened in 5, although the mode itself was pretty lame.
I get the feeling that we’re not going to be seeing much DLC for this game. AFAIK, all of the CaS parts were found on the disk, and I’m not sure that much else was. Supposedly Zas and the Nightmare clone from IV’s models were found, but I don’t know if anything will come of that. I think that if we were getting anything, there would at least be placeholders. I would love for some extra story stuff though.

That video scares me. And the reason why I think Astaroth is one of the best characters in this game is from seeing the consistent amount of win streaks from people using that character online. I think he’ll be rocksteady all the way through the games life cycle even if people do improve on GI and JG, Astaroth players can do the same to them. I have to say my 2 matches I hate fighting the most is Astaroth and both Pyrrahs.
the thing is that yes astaroth can do the same but alot of other peoples strings are faster then astaroth
astaroths gets affected much more by this based on the fact that his strings lock you in place but there is enough time to just guard while blocking. sort of a red parry deal.
mitsu doesnt exactly want you to block bb or a simple aa
or 2kb
astaroth doesnt mind and actually sees it as much better if you block his strings as the inevitable guard break will come much more faster with him
as for that vid some of that stuff is good…no its great. but some of that is more of the "if you get hit by that opening move in that position you deserve whats about to happen to you"
and you can tech the throws
