As a rebuttal for that front page post :
I understand that we ALL are still learning the game because it’s still fresh, and when the time comes, there will be better show that what I have shown via the videos.
But, you have to understand :
1 - I really don’t have time to play. I work for the United States Air Force. I start work from 0500, and end the day at 1900, every day. Also combined with studies and taking care of my personal self, I squeeze any time I can play this game to get better. The only time I really have a lot of time to play any games that I enjoy are on the weekends, and after 2100. I still find that getting that high on the leaderboards isn’t that hard when you have time, but I do not. I find it as an accomplishment that I’ve reached that far with the time constraints given.
2 - Understandably, there will be bad players that you WILL run across when you play online. There’s really nothing you can do about it besides playing smart, since, I find it more often than not, if you play reckless against a bad player, you will lose. At the same time, there will be times where you come across a player that is good, and it’s satisfying if you win or lose either way because you know that you have to work harder at understanding the game, thus evolving yourself and the game. I had my share of wins and loses to both bad and good players, but I still find this game enjoyable and competitive to an extent.
3 - I am an online warrior. I know that people like Kayane can beat me because I do not have a scene that plays locally here in Italy. If there is, it’s going to be hard to try to get to a local scene here because Italy’s players are few and far between. If I wanted to go to Rome, for example, I would have to take an $70, 8 hour, train ride to get there. Again, I unfortunately do not have the time to go to a local scene, so online is where I play. The net-play isn’t bad at all for this game, so far one of the best online experiences for fighting games, next to stuff like GGPO or BlazBlue’s net-play. I find that this game can still be good as an online game, and I wish that I can play this with a scene, offline.
4 - I’m new to the Soul Calibur scene. I’ve been playing Soul Calibur since the DreamCast days. But, I did not competitively. I’ve always been a button-masher, until this game came out. Since SFIV came out, I took playing fighting games seriously, and tried to play competitively. I lived in Sacramento, California before I joined the USAF, and there wasn’t a big competitive fighting game scene here, besides playing against players like Mine, Lilsix66, and Larry. So, when SCV came out, I took whatever I learned from playing fighting games (I’ve played SFIV, BB, and MB:AA), and applied a lot of the basics to this game, which works for the most part, and I’ve still got a long ways to go to learn more of the mechanics of this game to get any good at it.
TL;DR - I know that I’m not the best by far, but with the time constraints working for the USAF, no local scene to play with, the game still being new, and just me applying my basic knowledge of fighting games, I feel like it’s an accomplishment to get where I’ve got to the leaderboards today. So, if you have a problem, there’s nothing stopping you from dealing with it.
Thanks for anyone that has read my long rant, and thanks to d3v for at least posting it on the front page. To all the haters, if you have enough time to hate comment, go play the game more.
