Yeah alpha pat is a buffed Setsuka. In SCIV Setsuka’s umbrella moves actually hindered her speed. They gave A.Pat better moves to compensate.
The only match-ups I can see giving Alpha Pat trouble are Xiba, Yoshi, Natsu, Norm. Pat (Auto-GI Stigma counters most of A.Pat’s good attacks, how coincidental :P).
I’m still having trouble learning the basics of this game. Trying to learn Nightmare, Hilde, and Z.W.E.I. I’ve already had a few people rage quit on me online, that’s pretty sad considering how ass I am at the game. Good shit. Edit: Right now I’m playing on stick for most of my fighting games, do you think I should switch to pad only for SC?
WHY ARE PEOPLE SAYING WHOS TOP TIER ALREADY? Its WAY too early to tell that yet. remember marvel when Iceman was considered top? Yeah. And remember when Makoto in 3s was initially considered low-tier? more time needs to pass before ya’ll start saying whos top and whos not. How bout we just have fun with the game before trying to figure out whos top.
Basics.
-Instead of blocking low like you do in Marvel block standing most of the time.
-Learn your character’s punishing attacks and the safe/unsafe ones (set dummy to attack after guard and test out your moves)
-The tiers in Soul Calibur usually goes like this
Week 1 Tiers
Top:
Popular easy-mode chars.
Low:
Everyone else.
Week 2 Tiers:
Top:
Technical characters:
Med:
Kilik, Cervantes, Maxi, Cervantes.
Low:
Slow Heavy Hitters
Unlike Marvel you can read attacks in this game, So eventually the characters with more tools tend to outshine the characters who strictly deal raw, basic damage. You’ll be raging over the Xiba spammer you see online today but eventually you’ll realize that 90% of his attacks can be blocked by a standing guard and his low multi-poke doesn’t put you in hitstun so you can block low after the first hit. Also you’ll learn that in the Xiba match-up you should expect to guard a ton, most likely this will cause the Xiba player to start rushing you. This is the fatal error, Xiba is slow at point blank range. You see, things like these will pop-up as you play the game.
Some supers are really retarded …
I will wait for some top level gameplay, the gameplay could get better or evolve into something even worse.
Setsuka slow? Umbrella moves hindered her speed? lmao.
“even worse”? Huh?
Also I don’t see what’s wrong with the supers, they aren’t really any better than supers in other games. Some start up super fast but damage isn’t amazing really. If you are getting hit by a fully charged Nightmare super you deserve to lose the round haha, that thing must be 2 or 3 real world seconds where you can sidestep and punish him with your biggest combos.
Most CE’s barely do more damage then BEs. The big main difference is that it’s usually easier to land CEs due to their priority (most supers beat out most other attacks in the game).
Picked up SCV last night and I have to say I am very impressed. Aside from the hilariously bad voice acting, it’s a phenomenal game and I believe that it’s just as competitive as its 3D counter parts. I also believe that its better than MK7, and I love MK7. I haven’t had a lot of time with it so I’m not sure where the balance scales are, but I can’t wait to play some more and really figure some stuff out.
Next to nightmare yoshis and voldos are the most damaging supers and much more viable
Well Mitsu’s CE seems pretty viable since that seems like it can connect off of just about everything, it does low damage though.
I don’t think any of these early impressions about characters strengths are useful though as Just Guard hasn’t really come into play yet. Once people start Just Guarding consistently we’ll be able to see who stands where in the grand scheme of things.
You on PS3 or 360? I forgot.
This. Nightmare didn’t change all that much from SC4>SC5. I still miss the properties some of his moves got after connecting with a+b and 2a+b. BUUUUUUUT… I’ve always liked his power game. Love how they changed the motion of WSa,a to 22a,a with the GS options off of it. AND I also love that you can GS off of 66a now. 6b>GS transition is decent and the speed of 6b has changed for the better. He’s still a monster near the corner and the edge of the ring too.
Ran up to a 40 game win streak just whoring noobs with Nightmare. Even had somebody really salty and say he was OP and cursed at me.
People just need to learn how to get off the ground from certain moves. If you’re facedown, feet away, start rolling to the side. DO NOT TRY TO GET UP WITH AN ATTACK BECAUSE IT COMES OUT REALLY LATE. But if you’re feet forward, face up, you have access to a bunch of WS attacks with much more quickness.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
I’ve only been toying with Natsu in training but man… she scares the fuck outta me.
Ivy used to be my fave but… she’s got no stances man. She seems so plain. Her bow and arrow BE is pretty cool though.
APat is no Setsuka unfortunately. Just not as fun without seeing the umbrella.
The level of play online right now is atrocious. I am complete ass at this game and I’m 25-5 in ranked. I’m done with ranked though mofos already rage quit on me more times than I’m willing to put up with. Might check out that global colosseo lobby to see how that is.
Nightmare is not a problem, that thing is easy to avoid as Ralph’s Galactica Phantom in KOF, my concern is more about 1 frame start ups + unblockable, doesn’t really matter to me if they have great damage or not, i understand that is maybe too early to complain but i’m just curious how this kind of fast supers will change the game in the future.
I’m afraid to push buttons vs Xiba when he has one bar of meter. his auto GI super is so annoying.
I have both guides. The umbrella moves are slower than Pat’s moves now.
rolls eyes
No, the JF Umbrella(both Sets and Pat’s fastest moves) are the same speed at i12. Don’t know what guides you’re looking at.
I’m talking about the other moves they swapped for A.Pat. A.Pat isn’t completely a copy paste of Setsuka.
Lmao at people playing this like street fighter
