Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

  • Apparently so. Her Possession and disappearance tricks help that mix-up she has just as well. Her Critical Edge makes a good followup attack to some of her throws. Damn her damage.

  • I’m surprised that they took out the artwork and bios section from this game. That was the lovely thing I adored about the very first DC SC.

Huh, is that the “Brosurugi” guy? The ratty looking samurai?

natsu is only good if you an make people scared to press a button. If not she’s pretty free… As the game goes on her being top tier will fade. Anyone with good space and that not afraid to mash a button will be her all the time.

Setsuka on the other hand if def top

viola will prob end up being mid high the damage is not there… But she can get into your head though, such a pain…

imo

clear top tier as of now

setsuk
hilde

natsu
nightmare
asta
pyrra ( but I feel she’ll go the same route as natsu)
Ivy

Hilde as top tier? Any particular reason why?

I don’t see it really, but maybe thats just my inexperience with the game.

What’s the genetal consensus on the strength of the Devil Jin style in this game, even though he is not tournament legal it would be nice to know how good people on this thread think he actually is at this point, it would be especially helpful for me since I’m planning on repping a create a character with his fighting style when I finally get to try out the game.

hilde is safe if not at advantage on most things, has one of the better super’s in the game and can whiff punish for big damage.

Is it just me, or did they make Astaroth a lot more… derp? They removed so many of his moves, and turned others into brave edges :S

I think you guys are taking the Natsu thing a bit too far. Yeah she’s good. But she’s not THAT good. The game just came out like 3 days ago. It’s way too early to say who is the best. Like WAAAAY too early. I think Pyyrah Omega will be better.

Apparently another stream is going on as well…I think

ITs great to see some interest in the game, outside of Story and preferred character shenanigans.

I wont get into tiers, but Natsu can be dealt with (fairly easily) when you know where her transitions are. Alpha Pat seems pretty good, but nothing that makes him any better than Setsuka was compared to the rest of the cast. Tira is def High-Mid, close to top when people realize her true potential, especially with her AUTO-GIs. Mitsu Asta, while average on paper, do HELLA damage, and can dictate the match once they hit you.

Overall this game feels like SC3, or MVC2 for that matter, in that a lot of character can do heavy damage, and the spread in tiers seems less.

Also the Online is amazing. 1 Bar in this game feels like 4bars in SCIV. If anyone else has any questions please feel free to ask. I wont lie, 8WR is a little cluttered with all the Random threads.

If you want to get better att his game, just play people and practice!!

agree with all that, I think this game favors setsuka’s style a bit more than 4 though

Tira is really good imo also, I still haven’t seen anyone block that brave edge low on reaction.

Is Tira much different from her SCIV version? It’ll probably take a couple of weeks before I can get this game, but I’m too hyped to simply wait and all I’ve got atm is SCIV, so I thought that what the hell, might as well practice a little bit.

You forgot Patroklos. He can literally insta-punish you for like anything O_O. Shield Skillz cough Justice Drive does **38 damage (Characters have 240 health) for a 15 frame start-up (it’s faster if crouching). **in Soul Calibur 15 frames is like a light attack in Marvel. So basically anything with a recovery of more than 15 frames or looks unsafe (med/heavy attacks especially) Pat can take out nearly 1/6th of your health each go around. Below are a few other reasons that normal pat has potential to be broken.

-Justice Strike has good range/good speed and causes a hard knockdown (Ukemi) it’s only -2 on block (faster recovery then like 90% of the stuff in this game) and it can lead to a simple combo that does 82 damage (so 1/3rd of your total health) or 103 with a CE finisher.
-Did I mention Pat’s CE is completely invincible from the 4th frame after start-up. (Oh but let’s just fill in a freeze-framing cinematic entry to cover those vulnerable frames shall we? :P)
-Shield Skillz can be made super safe (-4 on block) and stronger (45-50 damage) through brave edge…da fuck?
-Has a command grab that does 78 freaking points of health O_O
-His overall speed is about the same Pyrrah but his game is alot less linear.
-Stigma reflection is an Auto Guard Impact that counter’s mid attacks. Generally, most of the powerful attacks in this game are mid attacks. Also as you get better, it becomes somewhat obvious which attacks hit mid. Literally, this move gets better as you learn the game.
-He has a very fast low kick, and a crouching attack that hits mid but looks like it hits low. The combination of these two attacks are great for corner/wall mix-ups. If you figure out the pattern **i’ll just use my OP brave edge shield skillz and ram you into a wall for such a massive frame advantage that you’ll have time to watch a Dante combo video :P. **
Geez, I’m glad everyone is sleeping on pat. Namco obviously made this guy to shit on 3/4ths of the characters in the game O_O

Pyrrha and Patroklos are annoying, but I bet if Xiba had played a larger role in the story, he would be the most despised. His only character trait is being hungry. He does absolutely nothing else.

As bad as Nightmare is in arcade mode, I don’t think the difficulty jump from stage 5 to nightmare is as bad as the jump from stage 6 (I think) to the Apprentice in IV. That was absolutely retarded and you still had to fight Algol when you finally got through him.

Has anybody figured out what the conditions are that make replays cut off? My assumption is that it would be something like a full 10 round match, but I haven’t heard anything about it.

lol i haven’t got around to studying him just yet, but i thought charging star was unsafe or atleast not THAT safe…Ugh so dumb guess i’ll do some studying on him next.

So that is why I’m starting to like Pat, I just him to training mode and then play all day with him online and offline casuals and I think he’s my new main. Dude is a beast.

His shield smash, whatever 236 b is called is not safe, I’m not sure how bad on block it is, but it’s a free hit at least, the BE version is slightly safer though, but it costs meter.

The BE version is super safe. Regular Skillz has a -20 frame disadvantage on block. BE only has -4 + extra block stun for the opponent. Literally Pat can march across the stage using Brave Edge skillz into a corner where he can rape you :P. This guy is so dumb!

Alpha Pat is the shit. I just hope you are very fond of training mode, because you will get well acquainted with it. I’m learning that character for the first time and I an jealous of anyone that used Setsuka in earlier games.
