Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

If he was missing a limb they’d have to change all his animations.

Admittedly I wasn’t thinking about the gameplay changes something like that would bring. I thinking more of the lines of his character. From that picture he still appears to be samurai hellbent on finding a good fight just 17 years older. Assuming he’s been fighting all that time he’ll have more battle scars to show.

Hopefully that scar from Tanegashima didn’t fade.

Critical Finishes are officially out, with something new in its place:

I’m sad to see it go since it added to the depth of SC4, but on the flip side, people who don’t know anything about SC4 thought it was stupid. Hopefully something suitable is added in its place.

Wouldn’t it be funny if it turned out that you could make custom characters that looked and played exactly the SC1/SC2 cast, give or take balances changes? Wouldn’t be even more funny if this ghetto oldschool cast ended up being tourny legal?

I would like old costume sets available for created characters. Whether they’re tourny viable is none of my concern, personally, CAS and meeting other player’s creations was seriously fun - tourny viability be damned.

Not sad about finishers being left out. I liked it, but it was kinda weird. There will likely be a new way to punish turtles that doesn’t harm the pace (return of open hand combat, anyone?).

Just checked on this topic. No, it wouldn’t. What it would do is introduce the characters with a comfortable roster that old time fans will want to play for their long-time favorites, and throws the newer characters into the mix so older fans will learn to appreciate and love the newer characters. Then as the series progresses, more and more new characters will come, and slowly but surely the older characters will begin to leave (For story reasons or otherwise.). Though in a perfect world for some, all the favorites of the SC franchise will be in every SC game.

EDIT: The character creation system should be a more refined version of SC3’s like SC4’s should’ve been. There should be a whole bunch of pre-made movesets that aren’t used by the canon cast that the created characters can use. Though there should be more movesets than SC3, which might’ve had 20 movesets already, this way though, created characters feel unique, and the canon cast can retain their iconic movesets.

Last SC was just bad but i waiting on the new one tho

A good sign that they’re really putting effort and quality control in the sequel, and SC5 isn’t just getting a ‘Madden update’ treatment (SC4 with new characters, graphics and properties shuffled around). Is it E3 week yet?

Whoever was waiting on Hwang - sorry but no dice:

I must be so used to Ono’s twitter messages that I actually find it weird whenever a producer actually confirms something via twitter. Sheesh.

Wonder what’s gonna replace Critical Finishes.

If you ask me, it’ll be replaced by that guard crush effect that happens when you land a “soul crush”. Which kinda doesn’t make sense, since guard break moves already exist. However, whenever I landed a guard break move in Soul Calibur, it never lead to free damage or anything. 'Guess I was just doing it wrong.

Regardless, that’s what I think. If it’s not an instant kill move, it’ll be a guard crush.

Gatdayum that’s pretty.

So Pyrrha is pretty much Cassandra’s replacement then?

Everyone is guessing that she’s Cassandra’s replacement, but my guess she’s more of Sophie’s replacement or maybe a combination of the two. Maybe we’ll find out tomorrow.

that looks pretty amazing

It will probably look even better in motion. Do want.
