way back when you were writing me guides to SC2 stuff, you put lizardman in yunsung tier
this thread makes it pretty obvious you don’t think that’s the case, so was that just a typo or what? and where would he actually fall, mid?
I think I know part of the answer…
-Being “yunsung tier” in SC2 is like being at least low-mid tier in SC3/4. You’d have to experience how awful, say, Talim is in those games to fully appreciate the difference in the tiers. I remember Strider (a Canadian player) using strictly Yunsung at Evo2k4 and still doing some serious damage, including beating TieTYT. You’re just never gonna see that with bottom tier chars in the other games. In SC3 you’d see Oofmatic in the top 5 at many, MANY tournaments with Talim listed next to his name, but then vids would come out and you’d see that vs the really solid players his Talim would get rocked and he’d have to switch to someone else to win. This includes vs solid players that didn’t really know Talim matchups.
-Crow, for some reason, likes to downplay SC2 Lizardman’s command grab because it has no range and only does 40 dmg. Except you can’t break it. So it’s basically an i15 (which is faster than normal grabs) 40dmg unblockable that you can GI, but GIing is pretty risky in SC2. IIRC ViciousSuicide (mainly known for his awesome Yoshi) did some decent dmg in tourneys basing a lot of his game on making them fear that grab.
imo he’s at least low-mid tier along with Raph and Maxi (or maybe that’s high-low, whatever), really not that bad.
ShardZ summed it up pretty well. Lizzy still had some big flaws that prevented him from moving out of the low-mid area with Maxi and Raph, namely safety and range. But in SC2 EVERYONE was good, and that just isn’t the case in any other SC.
I do downplay the grab because I can’t count the number of times I’ve thought I was as close as I could get to someone and had Lizzy’s little dino arms whiff, lol. He’s a Hauzer that dosen’t box. :,(
