Soul Calibur 3 Preview

Restating the info from the article doesn’t make it any more true.

The screenshots look convincing (although as all of SRK should, convincing screenshots don’t prove anything) and the hoop girl certainly fits into the style of the game, but I’m going to wait for some proper confirmation before I believe anything.

I was working at EB at the time, and it seemed like we sold a metric assload of them when it came out. We always had extra, but that’s cause we ordered like 5 times as many as we did of everything else, to make sure we didn’t run out.

I guess it sold really really well for a normal game, but not as much as they expected. Harumph.

N

While SC2 was a failure competively, it sold as well if not better than most fighting games released on multiple platforms. Personally I still like the game although there is much that could have been improved on.

Right now I don’t know if this is fake or not, the game being PS2 exclusive while disapointing sounds like something that Namco would do, although I am unsure most about the talk of character creation. If it was character edit like VF or T5, I would believe it but to make your own character in a well established series like SC seems odd.

This isn’t inconceivable. EA Games, and American company gave Famitsu of Japan exclusive info no one else knew about when they ran an article on The Godfather. Add to that the fact that this isn’t Gamepro’s April issue…

Nah, this is pretty legit, it’s already been confirmed that this year’s LamePro (GamePro’s yearly April Fools gag) does not contain the news for SC3.

The news of the game not being multiplatform shouldn’t concern people either, considering that even though the game did sell well on all 3 platforms over here, in Japan, only the PS2 version sold well. The GC and Xbox SC2 sales in Japan were like shit. And the game not being a graphical leap over SC2 shouldn’t be much of a surprise, considering that Tekken 5 isn’t that much of a leap over Tekken 4 in the graphics department.

From the looks of it, and if it holds true, Namco is pulling a Tekken 5 to please their fans with gameplay fixes and improvements, considering that the main fanbase of SC fans, absolutely hated SC2 because of the gameplay tweaks done to the SC1 engine.

Arcade wise, the game is most likely running on their upgraded PS2 board, System 256.

Adding to what Bowling Pin said, MGS4 was announced at a European Press Event, news of the console exclusive SC2 characters were given to IGN, EGM had breaking news of SF Alpha, and etc…

That bitch with the hoola hoop looks sweet!

the first sentence is “soul calibur 2 was a big dissapointment” …i thought gamepro liked Soul Cal 2… probably an April Fool.

Do you guys understand how Magazines in the US work? When the Magazine hits the stand it will say “May” even if it is an April Issue. They do this to keep the Magazine on the stands so owners won’t take the magazine down. This has been going on for ages. I have the latest issue of Play Magazine, it says April 2005 on it. I do not have a time machine because as of this typing it is March. When Play Magazine’s real April issue comes out it will say May. Every Magazine does this.

And no offense but you’re comparing Gamepro to Famitsu? GAMEPRO?

MGS sells better in foriegn markets than it does in Japan. For 2 and 3 they wanted to sell the games outside of Japan first. I know for at least 2 that didn’t work out due to 9/11. So them making announcements regarding MGS outside of Japan is not that surprising.

All I’m saying here is that there is reasonable doubt. In all honesty I don’t believe the news myself, but I’ve been wrong before and won’t have a problem being wrong this time.

No moron, i have the april and may issue of GP, even though the may issue came out in april, lamepro was in the april issue which come out in march. So the SC3 and lamepro (jokes) were in totally diffferent issues. :lame:

I’m a big Soul Calibur (part 1) fan and I’m pissed that everyone still looks like the gay RPG characters from SC2. Thank goodness for the announced character edit feature. The graphics engine also looks the same as SC2 on the surface, no improvements in art or technology like in Tekken 5. Disappointing, but hopefully they’ll fix what spoiled SC2 imo (loose tracking, evades, modified SC2 GI system, just frames, various glitches like post-GI 2G, etc.) and make it play more like SC1.

Also, I’m interested in what the Gamepro article says, because it doesn’t sound like there’s going to be an arcade release. For every one of their fighting games this generation, Namco released news about the arcade release FIRST, then talked about the console versions after the game’s arcade launch. If the Gamepro article is legit (there’s no reason to believe it isn’t) news of the console game going on sale shortly suggests they’re skipping the arcade version entirely. Keep in mind there was no news of SC3 from AOU earlier this year.

What did Arcadia say about SC3 exactly, and was the article from Arcadia confirmed to be true and accurately translated?

cannabiscreator - Is it possible for you to respond to me without the use of name calling? You’ve called me names twice insulting my intelligence yet I fully understand that the word ‘I’ is always written with a capital ‘I’ and not ‘i’ like you wrote down my fellow rocket scientist. Look around. I’m not the only one that thinks this is an April Fools’ joke.

i want this to be on XBox Live.

As far as Lamepro and the April prank would of been last month are whatever, you do understand how April Fools’ gags work? You’re supposed to think it’s real. There are no rules on April Fools’, the only rule is to fool people.

Another quote from Gojira from that link I provided earlier.

"Moreover there’s nothing about any of this on Gamepro’s website, or affiliates. A search for Soul Calibur 3 turns up nothing. You’d think with something like this they’d milk it for all it’s worth.

After thinking about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if the scan itself was a prank, and this actually has nothing to do with Gamepro."

I have the April Issue of Arcadia, the last one that came out. There’s no “Disc Lady” in there. BTW, if Arcadia mentions it, most of the time it means that the game is headed towards the arcade since it’s an arcade magazine. They spent very little time discussing KOF 94 Rebout because it was not slated for the arcade.

Sorry sano, i just lost my temper. No disrespect intended. I can understand how people can think it may be a joke because theres nobody else talking about it, but this was in a preview section and I really don;t think this is a joke. Sorry bro just disregard my previous posts.

“Most of the time,” true.

If SC3 is coming out for the home in Q3, we’d hear of SC3 arcade loke-testing RIGHT NOW if not shortly.

For example, T5 was announced in E3 2004 (May) loke-testing surfaced in July or so, it was officially released around November in Japan/Korea arcades, then the US console was released in March. That was a 10-month process, from announcement to arcade run to home release.

I think it’s a really stupid idea to try releasing a fighting game without a street test for bugs and feedback, but the typical process is way too far-off schedule at this point. I’m only expecting a console game for now.

SVC Chaos is a prime example of what happens without proper testing.

So I totally agree with you :stuck_out_tongue:

Another thing: That article is fucking insane. How was SC2 a “disappointment”? It wasn’t a bad fighter (although not as balanced as SC1), it received more attention at the tournament scene than SC1 ever did, and it sure as hell sold more copies than any Soul game before it.

And Soul Calibur never innovated anything really, only innovative feature I spotted was Air Control (every other gameplay feature from SC1 I can trace back to an earlier game like Tobal, Tekken, VF etc). That editor’s words would be enough to doubt the article’s authenticity, but Gamepro has always been full of shit. I can expect them to break news about a game without knowing a fucking thing about its history.

EDIT: Oh shit, the SRK Red Hotness skin is the truth

its fake, now move along…

If that’s fake, someone else would have to have been in on it besides GamePro. It’s not like the Sheng Long joke where you could conjur up spirtes to photoshop into SF2 images. Those renders look too professional.

And GamePro is run and written by idiots. Their website lags game info by about 2 months (maybe exaggerating). But they’re in the long line of game info sources that don’t look into anything before publishing. Take most of it as rumors or heresay. Namco probably has the arcade release planned for Fall 2005, not console. Along with that Namco hasn’t said anything about it.

If anything, the images may be real, and may be for SC3, but GamePro just has their info mixed up to Hell.
