If I can, in Oni mode, If I really want souls, I try to hit with as many jabs as possible, combo into Launcher, but instead of pursuing I absorb while Im on the ground.
how about this:
Head splitter xx Oni mode, Ax2-5 times (depending on range) B, C, f+C, B+C, Absorb
that’ll get a lot of souls out, remember that only so many can be on screen at one time.
i counted 10 just now (was kind of hard since they kept on sperming around). this means by doing 2 jabs before the standard aerial rave combo (A, A, B, C, df C, jump, j.A, j.B, j.B, jump, j.B, j.C), you can achieve 10 hits.
i can’t seem to pull this one off. it seems like A will not combo into B because the enemy is airborne from any hits made after the stagger. starting from [B, C…] seems to work fine though?
can someone please answer my questions for me. Can you use his standing A to stuff instant air dashes like chun-li iad+B? Also if you do soki standing A when Chun-li does her crouching B will you hit her out of it or will she just go under your standing a and hit you? One last question could you push block certain attacks for example chun-li s+c or Ryu iad+c and counter with his S+A? i would test these out for myself but i don’t have the game right now
^I haven’t tested, but I’m almost positive that both Friender’s bite and Casshern’s triangle kick can stun Oni Soki in the same way it works against Lightan and PTX. I doubt that he has an even higher level of superarmor than the giants.
Yah I found out when I played my friend the other day that Oni transformation is useless against a smart player. There will be no way to get inside if they use their adv. guards properly and know how to run away. If they attack though that’s pretty much it since you can just take the hit and start the combo during his attacks since the attacking player gets frozen each time he hits the SA. I’m not sure it’s the “ultimate” lvl 3 some of you guys seem to be hyping it up to be. Test it against someone who knows everything about the Oni transformation and not n00bs. See how far it gets you… Oh and if you’re depending on chip damage, you can forget about that if they adv. guard properly. Only the first hit of every combo you start will do chip damage. Incase the guy you’re fighting perfectly AGs everything then you’re muuuuch better off spamming single hits like “:snkc:” or “:snkb:”.
Things to watch out for while Onimusha:
-Moves that knock down giants. Casshern comes to mind…
-Special moves and HCs that “grab” you. For example Alex’s grabs, Ken the Eagle’s special where he flies through you multiple times and Polymar’s basic QCF special just to name a few. Basically if the special has a cutscene in which once you get hit by the first hit you can’t do anything after that, you might not be as safe as you think in the Oni mode.
-Fullscreen specials with a lot of hits, Megaman/Ryu. Basically you can :r::snkc: them easily but they freeze you slightly on each hit. If you’re starting from the other side of the screen you’ll take a lot of damage.
-Normal grabs…yes you can get grabbed. Not too big of a focus on grabs yet but eventually someone will get the spacing on them proper and abuse them so watch out. Shouldn’t be much of an issue if you keep them away though which you will since you’re Soki _
Something really good to know:
Since Soki does so much dmg and has such high HP, it’s a treat when you use him first and take your opponent’s first character out or force them to switch. By that time, if you’re not an impulsive Baroque user you should have a good chunk of Red Life. I usually have around 40% or more because I don’t Baroque a lot with Soki when I’m winning. Basically, next time you get a combo on their next character, end it with :d::snkc:, :d::d::snkc:, BAROQUE, :snka:,:snkb:,:snkc:,:df::snkc:and MAKE SURE you finish with aerial :snkb:,JUMPAGAIN,:snkb::snkc:, then another :d::d::snkc: for free OTG damage. This got my cousin’s Ryu down to about 20-30% Health with just one of these strings!!! Make sure your opponent can’t Mega Crash or else you’ll find yourself wasting a ton of Red Life. I did this many times in a row to my cousin who plays Ryu/Casshern. He screamed CHEAP!! every time I did this. It did feel cheap to take pretty much his whole 2nd character’s life with just one Baroque combo but hey, the way I see it, I sacrifice a lot of regen for that.
Basically what would happen is, I’d rape his Casshern then he’d bring out his Ryu and once I started a string I’d sacrifice all my Red life and both of his characters would be weak at that time and I would just switch to my full health Karas and finish them off with smart spam and chipping. It’s such an amazing strategy with Soki since he has so much dam hp and so much range. He can zone pretty much any character that uses their fists pretty easily. Watch out for Ryu’s Shinkuu though, definitely anti-zoning technique there. He will catch you mid attack out of nowhere, but I’m sure you guys know all about that since everyone plays Ryu sigh
From what it seems, charging Red Life with high HP/ high damage chars like Soki and Alex will be very popular. With so much HP they have a much higher chance for higher damage output with more red life potential. On second thought…maybe not so much Alex since he has limited combo potential.
Soki is bound to be a hoot to play in tourney!
I need to test out an Alex/Soki team and see what happens.
Soki’s Head Splitter is a little funny: it’s not comboable without baroque but there’s a small window where you can hit them with A after and it makes them airborne (though you can only combo more As from there).
If you do it before a stupid long move and take the hit: free baroque into B, C, 3C air. If they try and block it, you could always baroque out and walk up and throw them if they blocked from at least half the move’s range. It’s a fun move in the corner at least.
I’m trying to figure out a good combo to start from 6C,BC,623BC, wallbounce. It’s possible to baroque combo off a standing 623+BC,BC but that wallbounce combo has me stumped. Soki’s too slow to recover in time, is it a lost cause?
In Oni mode the blue orbs actually STEAL portions of the super bar from your opponent. Yours goes up and their bar goes down upon absorption.
Also the “ABC” (R button on the GCN or Classic controller) macro works for Issen just incase some of you guys didn’t know.
I have to use it because doing “B+C” on the classic controller is weird and it doesn’t register B+C as one input, but two seperate ones a lot of the time
Duno how helpful this may or may not be but I noticed last night when playing Souki/Batsu. I was able to combo Batsu’s assist (Flame uppercut) off of the issen followup caused by Souki’s :snka::snkb::snkc::r::snkc:(:snkb:+:snkc:)
The timing seemed kind of strict for it to hit real meaty but does up the damage and leave Souki ready to go on the offensive again. In-fact, I don’t think they can do much of anything except block if it hits right.
I’m sure other characters/players have stuff that works like this off that finisher.
I won’t be able to play again till Saturday, but in my mind, this could work off of his counter into issen right? Cause that would be gangster.
EDIT: Also, I’m really bad at versus games, this is really my first I’ve attempted to learn haha. What’s the best air combo you guys are following up his :df::snkc:?
:snka::snkb: :u: :snkb::snkc:
Is the best i’ve found so far.
I found a way to combo into Lv2 Oni magic with Polymar’s assist.
only problem i have is the timing of the assist. Sometimes polymar comes out to far back.
anyway its pretty simple:
:snka::snkb::snkc::assta::dp:+:2p: (charge for lv2 and release)
The slash of the oni magic will actually ground them for the rest of the attack.
one time I went under the opponent with this combo and the super’s slash hit them (behind me!) and they stayed stunned even after the rest of the super was done.
:amazed:
This strikes me as VERY important. If soki can do a full length combo > super, then only hit part of it, and as a result get a free second combo off of it, it could result in extremely large amounts of damage for anyone who can do it on command.
By the way the best air combo is either :snka::snka::snkb::snkb::u::snkb::snkc:
or dependong on where you launch them from you might only be able to get
:snka::snkb::snkb::u::snkb::snkc: Keep in mind his aerial :snkb: and :snkc: both
have hitboxes above Soki so these combos do hit.
If you launch them while they’re airborne ( for example after
:d::snkc:,:d::d::snkc:, BAROQUE, :snka:,:snkb:,:snkc:,:df::snkc:) the best combo
I find is :snkb::snkb::u:,:snkb:,:snkc:
Once again depending on where you land the launch hit you might only be able to
Are you sure it only works with the polymar assist? And even if if it does, it might be worth it to have a polymar assist in the long run for people who want to play souki just in order to get the double combos.
