Souki: Oni of the Ashes

Looking forward to that combo video, Tatsujinken.

I wish I had a wiiiii

Why the hell can Soki combo 7 standing jabs into his BnB mid screen?!?!

damage 18610: dash in, :snka:,:snka:,:snka:,:snka:,:snka:,:snka:,:snka:, :snkb:,:snkc:,:r::snkc:,:snkb:+:snkc: xx :qcf:+:snka::snkb:

That’s a lot of frickin jabs!

Holy crap, Kurasa. I love you. That shit is too funny.

haha what? I never tried to get that many, at most I only got around 4.

haha Oni mode! jabjabjabjabjabjabjabjabjab. absorb.

even if you arent close range, if you baroque after :r::snkc:, or better after :r::snkc:,:d::d::snkc: you are close enough for at least 6 more jabs

also if you have more super than you need :dp::2p: (no issen) followed by DHC often does more damage than :qcf::2p: followed by DHC (thanks to damage scaling) as the bnb finisher

MOST BROKEN CHARACTER EVA!!!i!!!

yea team sword soki/karas is mad stupid

if you dont have 2 levels against them at all times enjoy losing 50% of your fucking health
also enjoy any sort of dash in getting stopped by jab
lol

Here’s a cool little combo for you guys using Roll to help!

abc, 6c, 22c BAROQUE, aabc, 6c, b+c, 236b+c charge 4, then press 6 and b+c as opponent is about to hit the ground, resulting in OTG Turbo Sweep.

30k+ damage with only 10% red on Souki and 2 super bars. Sure, you can do that much with no red or super, but if you want to finish of the opponent and switch in Roll to use all that hard-earned super (lol, 1 BnB=1 Super Meter filled) on healing, this is definitely the way to do it. You can also cancel the 236 super into her heal right after the combo meter hits 20, and the opponent won’t be able to punish you.

Yaaaaaay, stupid stuff!

Also, my current BnB with Souki is as follows:

a,b,c, launcher, abb, jc bc (land) 22c. If you’re not in the corner, you normally can’t do the 22c extension. D:

Does 15k with the extension, 13.9k without.

Also, has anyone tried tossing counter into pressure strings as a sort of tick-throw set-up? It looks somewhat viable in training mode, but I wasn’t able to play any friends today to find out if it is or not. D:

yeah, the guy can jab a whole lot but you’re better off not doing too many jabs because of damage scaling. soki’s most damaging bnb (as far as i know) does not include his jab. it’s still a good way to start combos because of its range and quickness, but in some situations it’s better to start off with attack B instead (like when you know you’re going to hit the opponent, or after you’ve activated baroque, or when you’ve just landed a j.C).

some things i realized today after playing the game with a couple of guys (lovepig and gasp and some others :D)

-soki is starting to look, uh, really really good. we kind of placed a soft ban on him just because no one could find a way around his bullshit.

-his range is a huge threat. the guy can easily land full combos from like, half screen away. other characters have to get close up to actually do damage but not soki.

-standing C works pretty nice as an anti air due to its circular motion.

-you should abuse super armor all you can, especially onimusha form armor which lasts for the entire duration of your transformation. having super armor AND being able to block is the greatest thing ever. the best option the enemy has is to run away, so it’s going to turn into a chasing game full of super jumping and air dashing. with 5 bars of meter, it’s gonna be a very long game of cat and mouse. once you finally have them trapped in the corner or something, just rush them down with pokes and assists and keep on applying the pressure. most supers like ryu’s shinkuu hadouken won’t mean a thing because soki can just attack through it.

-soki seems to get along with karas pretty well (not just because they both use swords).their playstyles are actually somewhat similar. karas has some insane, quick attacks with soki-like range on them, and the two can perform assist combos that work out pretty well for them.

So what’s the common consensus so far? Is he too strong in comparison to the rest of the cast? I kind of hope some strong ass exploits are found for other characters; Soki’s fun as hell to use, and looks badass too. I don’t want to have to not pick him on the basis of avoiding cheese.

The BnB I use (A, B, C, f+C, BC, QCF+BC) seems to do a shitload more damage than most basic super combos (again, don’t have the game, I just play at my friend’s house). And the range of his jab makes it hella easy to confirm.

I also had no idea Soki can, according to RyoDragoon’s movelist, use his supers while in Onimusha mode. I can’t confirm this since I’m not at my friends, but does this just take a gauge off of his current Onimusha meter?

Also, another question… Is there a way to combo into his Ultimate Critical (his Onimusha mode-specific super)? I haven’t even seen the special, and I haven’t had the chance to try it out myself.

Lastly, does Soki have any grounded overheads? Or should I just use IADs?
Most of these questions will probably get answered once Tatsu’s combo video comes out, but I’m asking for the sake of discussion. And I really do wanna know. Haha.

Using supers in Oni mode does indeed still take 1 bar of meter to use.

His Ultimate critical is about as comboable as his Oni Magic (the other :dp:+:2p: super.) Which is real good. (ex. :snkb:, :snkc:, :dp:+:2p: )

Soki’s only ground OH (afaik) is his Head Splitter attack. So IADs are the only real OHs.

Also, it’s RYOdragoon. not Ryoo. -_-

i think soki just loses to blocking. he doesn’t have a viable chip damage offense, nor does he have an overhead that’s even remotely difficult to block. his IAD game sucks as well. also good luck getting any (low damage) throws

soki generally gets his hits when people are trying to press too many buttons and they get eaten up by autoguard moves

Lol, sorry Ryo. I’ve been reading it wrong this entire time. Hahaha, my fault.

Agreed with Buktooth. As long as the other guy plays solid D, there’s just not going to be much Soki can do because he’ll be unsafe on practically everything, which is enough for some characters to win. HOWEVER, if the Soki player has patience he can stuff just about anything the other guy has so long as he anticipates well, using his hyper armor and counter to their best potential. ::shrug:: It’ll be interesting to see how things go, I only have SoCal rushdown friends here.

^Same, but change SoCal to bay area and it’s the same situation here. I keep landing his BnB on wakeup right after I hit them with it because they try to get a desperation jab in there to initiate a combo.

I’d like to see someone to actually try to really just stick to abusing the super armor and playing defensively with Soki though. I don’t really turtle well in TvC yet so in the bit of time that my buddy did learn the game and messed with Karas, I couldn’t really pick out the spots in his rushdown to counter his attacks. I realize this is Karas we’re talking about but still, even he’s gotta have some unsafe stuff right?

confirmed: there is a slight difference in damage when pressing A/B/C for hcf+attack (head splitter)

also, the souki tutorial/combo video is up. i went ahead and included a lot of the details in this thread. thanks to everyone for contributing.

edit: video has been reuploaded

those tacos and burgers i fed you powered up your tvc game… . lol, i drugged them with soki juice.

whats the max range on that baroque combo?

1/2 screen works
what about 3/4s?

I wasn’t really paying attention to this thread cuz I didn’t particularly know/like the character, but after watching that video, he looks like a total beast. I might have to give him a second look.
